Democrats Seem Pretty Upset That Trump Forced Deal With Mexico To Limit Illegal Immigration

See, it’s pretty interesting, as past Congresses have passed laws against illegal immigration, as well as the Constitution requiring that it work to stop invasion of the nation

Democrats blast Trump for forcing Mexico deal to cut illegal immigration

Democrats lashed out in all directions at President Trump after he won concessions from Mexico to try to stop the flow of illegal immigrants at the border.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chided the president Saturday for his method, saying his threat of tariffs was unbecoming of a friendly country’s treatment of a neighbor.

But Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer took a different approach, saying — seemingly with as much sarcasm as can drip on Twitter — that since Mr. Trump has struck a deal, he can stop talking about illegal immigration.

“Now that that problem is solved, I’m sure we won’t be hearing any more about it in the future,” Mr. Schumer said.

Just days before Mr. Schumer had predicted Mr. Trump would cave and find a reason to revoke his tariff threat.

It’s almost like Democrats want unfettered access to the U.S. by non-citizens. Of course, the same Democrats threw hissy fits when reports of Trump bandying the notion of releasing illegal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions came out.

Trump’s big win leaves critics sputtering

Because President Trump emerges as a clear winner from his week-long confrontation with Mexico over our neighbor’s lax enforcement of its southern border, reflexive Trump critics will scramble to find some way of containing what is a clear Trump triumph, which came with assists by Vice President Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who conducted the key negotiations.

Already we have heard about long-term damage to trust between the North American allies, about investor nervousness and Trump’s unpredictability. This sort of flailing-about to deny the obvious says nothing about Trump and much about those critics who can no more admit he played high-stakes poker and won a round on border security than they can admit that the president delivered a magnificent tribute to the heroes of Normandy on Thursday.

In front page article, the Washington Post also notes

Pelosi accuses Trump of ‘threats and temper tantrums’ in Mexico negotiations

That’s all she and the Democrats have. Whines. Because the way Trump did it mostly worked. It should be mentioned that the #NeverTrumpers on the Right are also melting down. They’ve allowed their personal animosity up to hatred of Trump to affect their belief in policies that benefit America and limit illegal immigration..

President Trump was going to use tariffs to compel Mexico to take action, something which even a lot of Republicans opposed, and then, lo and behold, his ploy seems to have worked. That’s the worst thing of all for the Democrats: Mr Trump won something.

Next thing we’ll see, if Mexico reneges on its commitments — something I think more probable than not — the Democrats will accuse the President of getting snookered, having caved on the tariffs and gotten nothing in return.

  2. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Classic trump! He gets a political victory with no substance – it was all made up! The Mexicans had already agreed to the terms before the tax tariff tantrum. It’s all for show with the TV show guy. It’s three card monte. Look over there!

It’s America that gets snookered each and every time.

Idiot Boy buys the nonsense of Fake News and expects us all to be impressed.

AMLO had been trying to negotiate his way out, but was dragging his feet.

Trump put on the pressure and they caved.

You really have to stop getting your drivel from Politico.

Nobody intelligent takes it seriously anymore.

    • Dana says:

The Washington Post, today, at 7:19 PM EDT, had the headline How Mexico talked Trump out of tariff threat with immigration crackdown pact

Mexican negotiators convinced President Trump to back down from his tariff threat by agreeing to an unprecedented crackdown on Central American migrants and accepting more-expansive measures in Mexico if the initial efforts don’t deliver quick results, according to officials from both governments and documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

The enforcement measures Mexico has promised include the deployment of a militarized national guard at the Guatemalan border, thousands of additional migrant arrests per week and the acceptance of bus loads of asylum seekers turned away from the U.S. border daily, all geared toward cutting the migrant flow dramatically in coming weeks. The measures, described by officials from both sides and included in Mexican negotiating documents reviewed by The Post, appear to be more substantial than what the Mexican government has attempted thus far during the precipitous rise in migration to the U.S. border.

Since heralding the pact in a Friday night tweet, Trump has fumed at criticism that he capitulated to Mexico and that his accord amounts to a series of previously agreed-to measures.

Trump officials Monday described the accord as a breakthrough, and the president considered Mexico’s plan aggressive enough to suspend his tariff threat even though he liked the idea of imposing the duties over howls from members of his own party.

U.S. officials say they were particularly impressed with Mexico’s pledge to deploy up to 6,000 national guard troops to its border region with Guatemala. Mexico described its plan to U.S. officials as “the first time in recent history that Mexico has decided to take operational control of its southern border as a priority,” according to Mexican government documents.

Let me put it plainly for the esteemed Mr Dowd: even the Post says that the President’s tariff threats worked. This was a straight news story, not an opinion column, and the Post isn’t exactly President Trump’s strongest supporter.

Or, more succinctly, Mr Dowd was wrong. Again.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

A newspaper reported what this administration claimed!

        That IS news.

        So is this:

WASHINGTON — The deal to avert tariffs that President Trump announced with great fanfare on Friday night consists largely of actions that Mexico had already promised to take in prior discussions with the United States over the past several months, according to officials from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations.
Friday’s joint declaration says Mexico agreed to the “deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.” But the Mexican government had already pledged to do that in March during secret talks in Miami between Kirstjen Nielsen, then the secretary of homeland security, and Olga Sanchez, the Mexican secretary of the interior, the officials said.

The centerpiece of Mr. Trump’s deal was an expansion of a program to allow asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico while their legal cases proceed. But that arrangement was reached in December in a pair of painstakingly negotiated diplomatic notes that the two countries exchanged. Ms. Nielsen announced the Migrant Protection Protocols during a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee five days before Christmas.
        …

It was unclear whether Mr. Trump believed that the agreement truly represented new and broader concessions, or whether the president understood the limits of the deal but accepted it as a face-saving way to escape from the political and economic consequences of imposing tariffs on Mexico, which he began threatening less than two weeks ago.

  3. Elwood P. Dowd says:

trumpler was forced to back down by the national GOP and local Republicans who said the tariffs would cripple red border states.

To recap, trump said something stupid, party leaders made him take it back, trump claimed victory. Now it’s time to golf and extract a few million for trump Inc.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

I really hate to tell you this Elwood but even CNN (The propaganda arm of the DNC) admits Trump did a good deal. It s only idiots and liars like you who won’t admit when they’re wrong who keep whining.

How do whining idiots and liars such as you know when to believe or disbelieve “Fake News” and “Enemy of the People” orgs such as CNN?

We all know the answer, don’t we?

Tariffs on Mexico would have been an economic disaster for the US.

      • Dana says:

        The economist Dr Dowd wrote:

Tariffs on Mexico would have been an economic disaster for the US.

Would they have? It’s guesstimated that roughly five million American jobs are dependent upon trade with Mexico . . . but that there are eight million illegal immigrants holding jobs in the US. Lose those five million jobs but kick out the illegals, and that’s a net gain of three million jobs for real Americans.

Of course, that would also require taking action against all of the illegals in the US, something President Trump is doing, but still not doing aggressively enough.

The short term pain would be on Americans, in the form of higher prices on imported goods, but the long term pain would be on Mexico, as they would be losing manufacturing jobs. If the tariffs would force Ford and General Motors and other American manufacturers building things south of the border to move their plants back to the United States, that would be a longer term gain.

Still, that short term pain would be a lot less than what the warmunists would impose if they got their way.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

You’re in favor of tariffs on imports from Mexico (and of course China and other importing nations) to force manufacturing back to the US?

What would stop other nations from adding tariffs to our exports?

Why not just ban all imports, build a wall around America and make all our goods ourselves?

Then your overlords would rule everything.

Actually, the reason they don’t add tariffs is we’re the world’s best customer and they know it. Why tick off Number 1 for no reason?

Now that the Demos are out, we play fair and the world knows it.

Gee, good thing Mexico decided to be so good to us.

A nickel extra at Chipotle would have put us back in the days when Zippy was Preezy.

What did happen is 10,000 illegals are going back to Mexico and the Mexicans are starting to enforce their border.

Wotta disaster. No more fraudulent votes for Hillary.

Tariffs on Mexico would have been an economic disaster for the US.

Reason being a Libertarian rag is always, 100% opposed to any tariffs. Period. Trump did not “create” the illegal alien and border crisis. He’s trying to fix it and if you loved America more than you hate Trump, his supporters, Republicans, Whites, Christians and conservatives you’d be routing for him to do so.

Libertarians are great for whining about how things should be (just like Lefties), but they always give up when push comes to shove.
