Donald Trump Has Crossed An Uncrossable Line On Muslims Or Something

Let me start off by saying that I do not support Trump. I found his comments on Muslims to be idiotic from a political point of view. There’s an old saying going back to Napolean: “Never interfere with your enemy when he is making a mistake.” We should not think of Obama as the enemy, just an opponent, despite Obama thinking that anyone who isn’t 100% with him being an enemy. Obama did extremely poorly during his Sunday speech, and the best thing to do was to let that mistake fester. Trump decided to bloviate, and, regardless of whether he was slightly taken out of context, it was the wrong timing. He essentially is calling for stopping Muslims from entering the USA until “we figure out what is going on.”

Joe “Indians at 7-11s” Biden has called this a “dangerous brew”. The White House says this disqualifies Trump. That statement could elicit it’s own rebuttal post. Republicans are being forced to disown the comments. And over at the Washington Post, Ruth Marcus has her own take

Donald Trump has crossed an uncrossable line of bigotry

It is happening here.

With his call for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” Donald Trump has crossed an uncrossable line of bigotry and xenophobia. The Republican front-runner presents a clearer, more present danger to U.S. interests than the supposedly threatening Muslims he seeks to exclude. He is a one-man recruiting tool for the Islamic State.

Huh. Last time I checked, Trump was yelling “Alahu Akbar” before shooting anything up and leaving pipe bombs all over the place. He’s not shooting anything up. I’m not a follower of Trump, and I do not think he’s a Conservative, but, he’s not attempting to push America into any type of authoritarian nation, much like the hardcore Islamists are doing in 1st World nations, including our own. While we have a joke in the South that “he needed killin'” as a valid defense, it’s a joke. Honor killings are a real thing among the Islamists.

This was not Trump off the cuff, a Trump gaffe, Trump taken out of context or Trump responding ambiguously to a leading suggestion.

It was Trump being Trump, which is to say, crude, intolerant and ignorant. Yet nothing Trump has said previously comes close to this un-American suggestion.

And nothing in my experience of U.S. politics has been so sickening, has made me so embarrassed for my country. Who could have imagined that any supposedly mainstream political candidate — no less the front-runner of a major political party — would propose anything so extreme?

Ruth continues with her outrage for quite some time. Maybe we should look beyond her experience

The Democratic Party platform of 1856 denounced opposition to immigration in the name of “the liberal principles… which makes ours the land of liberty and the asylum of the oppressed of every nation…“ which “have ever been cardinal principles in the Democratic faith”. (snip)

The Democratic Party’s history is an endless parade of bigotry and treason. The 1860 Democratic platform continued to campaign for immigrant rights and slavery. The 1864 platform denounced the Civil War and called for negotiations with the Confederacy. The 1868 platform denounced “negro supremacy”. Then the Democrats spent the next fifty years obsessed with Asians.

The 1876 platform warned of an invasion of Asians, “unaccustomed to the traditions of a progressive civilization” and called for “legislation” to “prevent further importation or immigration of the Mongolian race.” The 1880 platform called for “No more Chinese immigration”. The 1884 platform “reaffirmed the liberal principles embodied by Jefferson” and demanded an end to “the admission of servile races.”

The 1892 platform denounced voting rights for black people as a Republican effort at the “reviving of race antagonisms” and demanded “the rigid enforcement of the laws against Chinese immigration”. The 1900 platform called for the “strict enforcement of the Chinese exclusion law, and its application to the same classes of all Asiatic races.” By that they meant the Japanese.

In 1904, the Democrats gave the Chinese a break and attacked the Mormons. The Mormons had been Democrats, but they were turning Republican. But by 1908, the Democrats were back to beating up on the Chinese, warning of “Asiatic immigrants who can not be amalgamated with our population” and whose “presence among us would raise a race issue.”

They were still pimping opposition to Asians in 1924. This was their official party platform. During that same period, and going back into the early 1800’s, their party platform also included heavy support for slavery, at least till it was outlawed with a Constitutional amendment, which Democrats were against. Afterwards, they opposed Blacks in all manners. They were the party of segregation, Jim Crow, housing covenants (meant to block Blacks from moving into White neighborhoods), Bull Connor, George Wallace, lynching, and the KKK.

The Democratic Party’s Senator Casserly delivered a speech titled “The Chinese Evil” which warned that California would be “scourged” by the “Asiatic hordes.” Well, Democrats thought of Blacks in the same manner, all the way up through the Civil Rights era, after which they suddenly decided to whitewash their opposition and institutionalized racism and say they were the party of Blacks. Why? For one of the same reasons they opposed Asians: voters. Asians tended to vote Republican, and Democrats did not like that. Of course, we can’t forget about their hatred of Asians. And Blacks. They really hated Blacks. But, getting Blacks onto the Democratic plantation did wonders for their voting support.

One has to wonder why Democrats are so supportive of radicalized Muslims? Is it just for the votes? Back to Ruth

All Republican lawmakers, party officials and candidates must immediately renounce Trump and assert that they will not support this demagogue at the top of the ticket. Failing to do so implicitly associates them with Trump’s bigotry.

Interestingly, Democrats have never renounced their bigotry against Asians and racism against Blacks. More interestingly, they never demand that all Muslims renounce the fundamentalist, hardcore version of Islam. By Ruth’s standards, if they do not renounce, that implicitly associates them with extremist Islam.

  1. John says:

Teach apparently your only defense available for Trump and the Party that supports him is to point out that Dems in the past have also done bad things
Well of course there IS. Much in the history often USA that we should be ashamed of having done
At times in the past the Democratic Party has been racist and intolerant of the religions of others. In the 1950s I was prevented from joining the local Cub Scout pack because of the religion of my parents (Catholic) even this was in a Yankee Republican suburban town in MA
However certainly after Nixon’s Southern Strategy and the passing of the Civil Rights Act by s Dem Congress and signed by a Dem POTUS the GOP has taken over the reins as THE party of reactionaries
You may say that you don’t like Trump but he is far in the lead in the polls of the Party you are married to
Trump is now on record for saying that no Muslims should be allowed to enter the USA, even American citizens who practice that religion he says mosques should be closed and Muslims registered somehow this is not an authoritative state ?

  2. Jl says:

Jimmy Carter issued an executive order barring any Iranians from entering the country in 1980.

  3. Jl says:

John-as far as the Civil Rights Act, do you mean the one that was filibustered by southern Democrats for 57 days?

  4. […] far as the theatrical outrage about crossing some uncrossable line of bigotry, or some such. I find it thoroughly revolting that anybody, anywhere, would reach up to take […]

  5. drowningpuppies says:

The safety of American citizens is supposed to come first in our immigration policies.

  6. Jeffery says:

Trump proposed a religious test for entry into the US. Big deal. American conservatives are afraid of Muslims, Mexicans, gays, Blacks, etc. American conservatives are always afraid of something. Trump is just taking advantage of this fear. First it was Hispanics, now it’s Muslims. Big deal. American conservatives recognize that the US is and is meant to be a Caucasian, Christian, Conservative nation. Trump is giving them what they want. For now. If he is nominated (a Democratic wet dream!), he will change his stripes.

The far-right sees no problem with banning Muslims immigration. Many conservatives would even like to rid the US of resident Muslims, even Muslim citizens! Many conservatives want to deport 10 million or more resident Hispanics.

I propose we ban all religions, not just Islam. Either you are a rational agnostic or you get out.

  7. Jeffery says:

Surber tries to make the point that the media are out to get Trump. He doesn’t have to spend a penny on ads because the media repeats everything he says. Morning Joe should be renamed Morning Blow because Joe and Mika kneel in front of Trump for an hour.

Does the press get it wrong from time to time? Of course. They screwed Al Gore royally in 1999 because they hated the Clintons so much. But Trump says enough stupid stuff on his own without the media needing to embellish.

He thinks the media “got” Palin too. If you can’t stand up to Katie Couric how can you stand up to ISIL? Palin (and the economic downturn) scuttled McCain’s chances. The Dems were afraid of McCain until he brought Palin on board to satisfy the far-right.

  8. gitarcarver says:

I propose we ban all religions, not just Islam. Either you are a rational agnostic or you get out.

So when are you packing your bags and leaving?

  9. The far-right sees no problem with banning Muslims immigration. Many conservatives would even like to rid the US of resident Muslims, even Muslim citizens! Many conservatives want to deport 10 million or more resident Hispanics.

No, just those Muslims who are radicalized. Whom you call “resident Hispanics” we call “illegal aliens.”

It is interesting that you completely gloss over the history of the Democratic party regarding blocking Asians, as mentioned.

I propose we ban all religions, not just Islam. Either you are a rational agnostic or you get out.

So, are you kicking your wife out of the country? Forcing her to renounce Christianity? Seriously, what is it with you liberals and your support for radical Islam?

  10. Jeffery says:

You seem to miss the point. A lot. I want radical Islamists to hang by their balls until dead and let the vultures and maggots digest them. As they hang there screaming I would enjoy laughing at them. They are a scourge.

I think all supernatural religions are silly but I may be wrong, and as long as the religionists are not attempting to force others to obey their silly rules, I have no problem with them. They may be right and I may be wrong. Live and let live etc.

If you are willing to say that we should let Muslim-Americans live in peace without harassment and surveillance we are in agreement. Unfortunately, you run piece after piece that suggests Islam is the problem, not radical Muslims intent on destroying human civilization. The radical Muslims are anarchists just like most terrorists.

More sophistry from the lil’ one along with the typical strawman arguments.

  12. john says:

LOL Even Darth Cheney says Trump has gone over the rainbow.
Islamists are not from the left side of the political spectrum they are from the hard right.
The right owns them and the Nazis too

  13. drowningpuppies says:

Despite all the bluster and posturing, Trump’s proposed ban is both reasonable and legal.

  14. john says:

Teach in 1988 when the Democratic Congress passed a bill to give payments for the internment of US citizens during WWII MOST in the GOP voted against it
When a terrorist attacked Planned Parenthood most GOP gave only the customary hearts and prayers token meme. This after referring to abortions as murder The GOP has in South dakota and Nebraska attempted to pass laws justifying homicide to people harming a fetus

  15. drowningpuppies says:

“Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth.”

  16. jl says:

“Islamists are not from the left side of the political spectrum they’re from the hard right.” So John, with that being said, you seem to be siding with the hard right of the political spectrum. Thought you were a hard left guy. More proof John doesn’t proof read his brain before commenting.

  17. jl says:

John “When a terrorist attacked PPH…..” Not so fast, Johnny. If 13 soldiers being killed at Fort Hood is, as Dear Leader says, “workplace violence”, then this is the same and not a terrorist attack. Sorry, can’t have it both ways.

  18. john says:

I do not side with the Islamists in ANY of their beliefs. I am pro choice I am in favor of BIG GOVERNMENT I do believe in a secular government that is not based on religion
Do you believe that we should have a small government? Islamists want a caliph can’t get much smaller than that
They hate abortion, and theywant government based upon some old religious book. Hard on crime ? yeah islamists like that too, anti gay ? sure
Sorry jl can’t have it both ways, the right wing agrees with islamists on a lot more things than teh left does. that’s why the USA gave billions to THE most radical islamists to fight the Russians for us. The islamists HATE the commies something fierce. But rightwing christians? they consider them to be People of the Book also not like us godless lefties
ISIS was midwifed by the IRAQ war, us lefties were against that. Taliban? Bush had no problem with that form of government until AFTER 9/11

  19. Jeffery says:

dogbreath once again has nothing to offer, but is good at sucking.

  20. jl says:

Sorry John, but ISIS was “midwifed” by Obama’s pathetic Middle East policies. And again, is that the Iraq War that so many Dems supported and voted for? I thought so.

  21. […] The same party that for years had a party platform against allowing Asians into the country. […]
