Say, “Could humour cut through the malaise that has smothered the public discourse” On Climate Change?

In a word, “no”

Why it’s good to laugh at climate change

Did you hear the one about the climate policy analyst? Or the polar bear who walked into a bar?

Climate change is not generally considered a source of amusement: in terms of comedic material, the forecast is an ongoing cultural drought. But perhaps campaigners have missed a trick in overlooking the powerful role that satire and subversion can play in social change. Could humour cut through the malaise that has smothered the public discourse, activating our cultural antennae in a way that graphs, infographics and images of melting ice could never do?

The problem is, when it comes to any politics and stuff, Lefties are not humorous. Or, in British, humourous. Their default mode is to sneer, condescend, insult, and abuse.

But while online ridicule directed towards climate ‘deniers’ (generally portrayed as either too stupid to understand the science, or as conspiracy theorists) may appeal to the usual crowd, its hard to see how this kind of approach will breach the political divide. After all, the feeling of being laughed at by a sneering, left-leaning elite is not appealing. One notorious attempt by the 10:10 campaign and director Richard Curtis at ‘humorously’ marginalising opposition towards environmentalism backfired completely. It turns out that most people don’t find graphic depictions of children’s heads exploding all that hilarious after all

The hell you say! It says quite a bit about Warmists, a subsection of the Progressive movement, would think that the video had any humor, er, humour, in it at all. They thought so much of their “humor/humour” that they immediately worked to make sure copies of the video uploaded to Youtube and other outlets were wacked. Fortunately, there are still some out there

That’s what Warmists think is “humour”. These are people who think stabbing a “denier” with an icicle is funny.

Many “reasonable” Warmists have highly recommended that Warmists take a chill on the insanity, and are always ignored.

Teach do you see yourself as being a denier
With one foot I’m the camp of the deniers who see this as a giant conspiracy but also partly in with the ” I know more about climatology
    Than the scientists” camp

Just because you don’t “get” the humor doesn’t mean libs aren’t humorous.

  3. Deserttrek says:

no such thing as a denier .. those who use the term are lower than child molesters and just as useful to the earth

  4. Jeffery says:

    Dessert,

Do you know what child molesters are?

  5. gitarcarver says:

Do you know what child molesters are?

    Yes.

They are people who prey on those using their supposed superior knowledge, hoping their victims will trust them. They are people who cause long term damage to others in order to elevate and enrich themselves via their lies. They are people who get off taking advantage of people.

Now, tell us all how that doesn’t describe Warmists?

  6. JohnAllen says:

Another term coined by someone else that is just so much more fitting than climate deniers is energy deniers.

I plan to use it frequently as it fits so many environmental groups and just ties them and the climate “scientists” together so neatly.

The fellow conservatives I know grumble a lot sometimes get a little carried away with rude comments about liberals.

But darn we have much more fun than the libs, we frequently tease or insult each other and the libs then laugh about it. We enjoy life while the progressives endure life.

Look at any protest, see the grim faces of the libs while the conservative protests have lots of smiling happy members.

And after the protests who cares more about the environment, who leaves behind mounds of trash and who leaves their surroundings clean and neat?

Actions not words do tell it all.

That describes most Republicans and Christian clergy. I still think that child molestation is a worse crime than conservatism or global warming knowledge.

Most Americans consider child abuse to be a serious crime and I’m surprised that you don’t.

    Jeff,
Are you sure you are not a child?

  9. Hank_M says:

Children make more sense than Jeffery does, david. He’s nothing more than your typical hate filled pompous liberal.

As for the off topic subject of child abuse/molestation, the left practically owns that one thanks to the incredible number of sexual assaults, rapes, etc done to children by female school teachers. The Church scandal pales in comparison.

  10. Teach do you see yourself as being a denier

I assume you meant to have a question mark somewhere within your poem, John? That answer would be “no”. I believe in the Holocaust. I also believe, since you have a really bad memory, that the world is warming, and Mankind plays a slight role. Anyhow, nice of you to completely ignore the entire point of the post.

Just because you don’t “get” the humor doesn’t mean libs aren’t humorous.

Right, because kids heads exploding and stabbing people is a frigging laugh riot.

Do you know what child molesters are?

Yes, they are people who liberal judges often give lenient sentences to, and people liberals protect as they try and stop states from passing Megans Law. They are also people like NAMBLA, who liberals protect.

thanks to all of you for expanding my point and to those who don’t want to understand I do not pity you
