Bummer: Hotcoldwetdry Alters Taste Of Wine

Because, as we all know, the climate has been perfectly stable over the last 4.5 billion years, until the invention of the fossil fueled vehicle

Global warming alters wine taste

Grapes such as pinot noir, merlot and chardonnay are now growing more quickly, subtly changing the compounds produced as they ripen and the synchronisation between maximum flavour and the ratio of sugar to acid, scientists said.

An increasing number of vineyards are thus struggling to identify the perfect moment for picking the grapes to ensure their wines retain their characteristic flavours, according to research by Kimberly Nicholas, associate professor of sustainability science at Lund University in Sweden.

“Climate change is beginning to affect the singular flavours that people expect from different wines the experience you come to know and trust from your favourite reds and whites,” Ms Nicholas said in a report in Scientific American.

Well, that’s it, we need to Do Something, to Spread Awareness, to pass regulations and restrictions on Other People!

What was the impact of the changing climate on wine quality 4 billion years ago?

How about 400 million years ago?

How about 4 million years ago?

    400 thousand years ago?

    40,000 years ago?

4,000 years ago? Ah, finally. Winemaking is probably 6,000 or 7,000 years old. Thankfully for vintners the climate has been remarkably stable for some 10,000 years or so. Of course now the Earth is experiencing a major rapid warming carrying us right out of the stable Holocene.

So really, the past 10,000 years or so is the time period important to humans, civilization and winemaking, right?

Most people who do not believe in science believe in the SUPERNATURAL
And they do not believe that the Earth is older than 6000 years,
Teach you now say that you agree that teh planet is warming. Why do you think it is warming and have you so informed the US NAVY? THEY NEED TO KNOW !!

  3. jl says:

“The earth is rapidly warming.” Unfortunately for J, assertions aren’t facts.

Do these people even listen to themselves? Every year, vintners struggle to determine the best moment to pick the grapes. it all depends on rainfall – amount and timing, total sunshine and temps. It is an annual thing, not a 20-30 year climate thing. Wine making is an art not a “settled” science.
The climate anti-change whiners think that climate should be a fixed characteristic for all times. Without “change” there would be no growth, no life, no history, no progress, no decline. Evolution requires change. Life requires change to mature from an immature form to adult form. Society requires change to grow from primitive to civilized. The only Constant in the Universe is Change. Even a Lightyear as the Great Constant requires photons to move and change thru time and space to even have a lightyear.

    blick,

So all change is good? That’s an interesting position for a conservative to take!

Are you arguing that human caused global warming will result in more positive than negative outcomes? If so, that’s a reasonable argument to make. Why do you think that?

Speaking for myself, let’s see- how many species of plants or animals reside where it’s cold? How many reside where it’s always warm, as in a tropical rain forest? You see, nature answers your question for you.
