    From the WaPo: According to the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) 38% of Ronnie Reagan’s ambassadors were political appointees and 37% of President Obama’s ambassadors were political appointees. It seems Mr. Obama didn’t invent this.

    As far as non career ambassadors being appointed Obama is far below Bush’s record busting 40 %

    Jeff, it’s not about this kind of political payback. As John McCain said, we all know how the game is played. However, to appoint someone with zero knowledge like this to a currently important post is idiotic. Like Bush nominating Harriet Myers for SCOTUS. Well, almost.
