Bummer: Fish To Lose Fear Cause “Climate Change”

Yet another horror/scifi fable brought to you by Warmists who refuse to give up their own big carbon lifestyles

(Climate Progress) Add “losing fear of predators” to the long list of impacts acidifying oceans could have on fish and other marine life.

A new study published in Nature Climate Change has found that elevated CO2 levels in marine waters make reef fish attracted to the smell of their predators, rather than being repelled. Researchers looked at multiple species of reef fish living near natural volcanic CO2 seeps in Papua New Guinea, an environment the study says is acidified to levels comparable to projections of what the entire ocean’s acid content will be in the next 100 years. They compared the behavior of the fish living in the acidified environment to fish in nearby, less acidified reefs, and found that, while fish in the nearby control reefs avoided water streams that contained predator odor, fish from the acidified reef spent 90 percent of their time in water streams that smelled of their predators.

I have to wonder: what did fish do during the majority of history when ocean temps and CO2 levels were higher than today? But, you know, the Warmists have to continue their hysteria in order to push their cult.

Teach warmists coldists everyone in the USA IS reducing their carbon footprint and we are about 1/2 way to reach our 2020 goal
And dirty coal is being fazed out no one wants to build any new coal plants they are about as welcome anywhere as a nuke.

  2. John says:

As for what it was like 200 million years ago ? Well it was different. (But of course many deniers don’t believe in that scientific old earth thing)
I sort of like the way things are now. Of course I will survive even if the historically high rate of change continues (dy/dx) but many of the human beings live a much more vulnerable existence than you or I.

  3. Jeffery says:

Have fish evolved over past 100s of millions of years? I bet they have. So marine species adapt to the natural and gradual changes that occur. Some 250 million years ago almost all marine species died out with climate change that occurred over a few million years. How will they adapt to climate change of a few hundred years? Our great-great-grandchildren will have to let us know.

Did you find any flaws in the paper itself, other than the results and conclusions?

  4. jl says:

As usual, J can’t say if there have or haven’t been comparable periods of climate change over the last 4 billion years, so I think your great-great grandchildren will be safe….except I’m sure there will still be end-of the-world nut-cases around then, too.

I read the article and the accompanying references and found it to be one of the stupidest concepts I have ever heard of. It is nothing but assumptions and does not account for multiple other variables, namely that there is no evidence of CO2 effect on anything or that CO2 has any influence other than speculative. Answer my original questions Jeff.

  6. Jeffery says:

    david,

What dumb as a box of rocks questions are you demanding that I answer? Kiss my ass, you white supremacist.

  7. Jeffery says:

    j,

I refuse to explain to you once again the irrelevance of the Earth’s climate 4 billion years ago. I hope you’re correct about my great-great-grandchildren.

You and yours repeatedly use the hyperbole logical fallacy in your arguments. Climate realists are not predicting the end of the world or the end of humankind, but ARE predicting preventable warming that will have significant negative impacts on human civilization. Preventing this can be accomplished with a trivial impact on world GDP. I have no idea why conservatives favor pollution.

  8. Jl says:

You refuse to explain the irrelevance of the earth’s climate 4billion years ago because you can’t. It’s very relevant, because no doubt it warmed, and cooled at faster rates through those 4 billion years. The problem for you is that you can’t say it didn’t-no records. “Warming that will have significant negative impact on human civilization.” Throughout earth’s history, the warming periods have been times of abundance. “Will have…” Always in the future, yes, neat trick you have there. There’s no negative impact yet, and you don’t know that it will keep warming, as people who aren’t astrologers already know that it stopped. “I have no idea why conservatives favor pollution.” Well, at least you got the first four words correct.

  9. Jeffery says:

    j,

“Throughout earth’s history, the warming periods have been times of abundance.” That’s pretty dumb. The Earth has not been this warm for 12,000 years. Before 12,000 years ago there were no human civilizations, so how do you measure your mythical “abundance”?

Please explain how the heating of Earth 4 billion years ago by giant asteroids smashing into it proves that the current rapid warming is natural? How do wobbles in the Earth’s orbit 20,000 years ago prove that the current rapid warming is natural?

“There’s no negative impact yet, and you don’t know that it will keep warming, as people who aren’t astrologers already know that it stopped.” That’s pretty dumb, too.

There are already negative impacts. According to NASA scientists (I understand that you do not “believe in” science): “Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves.” Farmers in Texas claim that your beef prices will be going sky high because of drought. Temperature extremes are causing more spending on heating and air-conditioning.

Only a liar or a cretin or both would claim that the Earth has stopped warming. Since you don’t “believe in” the fraudulent temperature record how would you know if it’s warming or not?

  10. Rjschwarz says:

Predators are there because fish are there because food is there.

If they want to make the case that there is less food in one stream over the other that is one thing bust seems to be the reverse if the thesis statement.

  11. Juan says:

It is important that you learn proper form when lifting weights.
It may also be that environmental factors come into play as well and interact with
those genes. Another reason for yeast intolerance is the use of antibiotics.
Your body, specifically your liver, produces about 1,000 milligrams of cholesterol daily, which would be more than
enough so that if you never ate another piece of fried chicken you would be ok.
Lack of exercise can lead to weight gain, as well as to
    stiffness of joints.
