NC Democrat Hits Wrong Button, Passes NC Fracking Veto Over-ride

The Lonely Conservative goes with “LOL!” I have to go with “bwahahahahahahahahah-snort-hahahahahaha!”

(WRAL) State House lawmakers have apparently accidentally legalized fracking in North Carolina, due to a deciding vote one Democrat says was a mistake.

Rep. Becky Carney, D-Mecklenburg, says she did not intend to cast the key vote that overrode the governor’s veto of the bill.

The vote was 72-47, exactly the number needed for an override. Without Carney’s vote, the veto would have been sustained.

Carney characterized her vote as “very accidental.” (snip)

Under House rules, members can change their vote if they’ve made a mistake – unless the change would affect the bill’s passage

Obviously, Democrats pitched a hissy fit

Carney tried to reverse her vote but Republicans blocked it. Democrats called the move “disgraceful.”

No, disgraceful was the way Obamacare was passed.

House Speaker Thom Tillis said he was comfortable with the process. “There’s a green button and a red button; they should know which one to push,” he said.

You’d think that would be easy to understand, but, we are talking about Democrats.

Did she move from Florida to North Carolina after voting for Buchanan in 2000?

  6. She probably voted for fracking in order to tell her constituents that she was pro-energy with the thought that the veto override would fail (much like how Ron Paul installs earmarks then votes against the bill), then realized that “oh, crap, my vote will pass the override”.

What has happened to NC? I thought it was a decent state, but to outlaw drilling? Sounds like California.

  9. The NC GA, controlled by Republicans, passed legislation allowing fracking. Dem Gov Bev Perdue vetoed it. The vote over-rode that veto.
