One of my little morning habits is, after getting up, brushing the teeth, putting on the coffee, I go outside, have a smoke, and check my Crackberry, then the news on my Blackjack. Imagine my surprise when the top story from the NY Times mobile went as such
Despair Drives Suicide Attacks by Iraqi Women
Why so many women? Why now? In a particularly painful twist, the phenomenon seems to have arisen at least in part because of successes in detaining and killing local members of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia, a homegrown Sunni insurgent group that American intelligence officials say is led by foreigners.Â
The mobile edition skipped the first 3 paragraphs in order to suggest that the successes by coalition forces are to blame for women becoming suicide bombers.
BTW, Grey Lady, the AQ groups in Iraq have been led by foreigners, such as Zarqawi.
“Although she is bombing herself and aiming to kill people, I feel these women are really victims of terrorism,†said Mrs. Qaduri, who is a Shiite and whose husband was kidnapped two years ago and has not been heard from since. “Only women in despair, in desperate situations, would do this. Dealing with such a phenomenon is not easy.â€
She added: “Our Oriental society is not like your Western society. It seems in many of these cases the women have had their husband killed or sent to prison and she feels she has no choice, she is very depressed.â€
In other words, it is the fault of the Westerners for creating more suicide bombers by stopping terrorists. Perhaps the GL should put the blame where it really belongs: on a medieval religion which teaches its practitioners to behave in this manner.
