I only wish we knew what they were
(Washington Times) House Democratic leaders have been "sloppy" custodians of Congress and broken several of their key promises to voters, Republicans charged yesterday, prompting the Democratic congressional leadership to offer a list of their key accomplishments in response.
"After six months, you can only talk about reform so much," said Rep. David Dreier, California Republican, during a press conference in which Republican leaders distributed a list of what they called the "100 broken promises" from Democratic lawmakers. "The leadership has been nothing short of sloppy."
Of course, you know what is up next. Democrats blaming the GOP for the Democrats inability to pass important legislation. Because nothing is ever the fault of a Democrat in Liberal World.
Stacey Bernards, spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, said, "Democrats have changed the debate on Iraq, brought unprecedented accountability to earmarks, and restored fiscal accountability to Washington after six years of a Republican culture of corruption and damaging debt."
Whew! Big accomplishments. For a moment there, I thought they had accomplished nothing. ;)
Democratic leaders held a press event to showcase what they described as a growing list of legislative accomplishments.
"Democrats have brought a new direction to Congress," said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat. "It is a new way of thinking and a new Washington — one in which we defend our country, grow our economy, care for our children and families, protect our planet and restore accountability."
That press conference was so important and so chock full of their legislative accomplishments that the Dems didn’t bother to release a press statement nor put them up on their official website, Democrats.org. In Liberal World, just thinking is apparently an accomplishment.
Remember their 6 for ’06?
- Honest Government: done bupkiss
- Real Security: again, bupkiss
- Energy Independence: jack shit
- Economic Prosperity and Educational Excellence: the only part passed was the minimum wage increase, and that only passed because of Republicans
- A healthcare system that works for everyone: have they even brought this up except for the presidential candidates using it in their campaigns?
- Retirement Security: again, done jack shit
Heck, it took them weeks to even pass a bill sensing support for the residents of Greenfield, Kansas, after that devastating tornado, which I discussed in the minimum wage link. The Mother’s Day bill is still sitting in committee. So much for their love of family, which they were pushing for in the shamnesty bill. I guess if Mom is an illegal………
