Sorta Blogless Sunday Interlude: Zarqawi Dead?

Via the Washington Times (AP story)

U.S. forces sealed off a house in the northern city of Mosul where eight suspected al-Qaida members died in a gunfight – some by their own hand to avoid capture. A U.S. official said Sunday that efforts were under way to determine if terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was among the dead.

Insurgents, meanwhile, killed an American soldier and a Marine in separate attacks over the weekend, while a British soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in the south.

In Washington, a U.S. official said the identities of the terror suspects killed was unknown. Asked if they could include al-Zarqawi, the official replied: "There are efforts under way to determine if he was killed."

If so, this would be great news, at least for those who aren’t Surrender Monkeys. Like, say, CNN, The New York Times, MSNBC, and cBS, among other left leaning media sites, who do not bother to incude this information on their front pages. Can’t have any potentially positive and/or pro-American news leaking through.

If he is dead, the question remains: is there anyone of sufficient power to fill the void in a manner that would keep Al Queda the danger that it became, and still is, at least to some degree?

More: What do the DU Surrender Monkey’s say?

  • wookie294: yep. I believe this is CIA psy-ops to continue our phased surrender and withdrawal from Iraq. Bush will say, "We’ve killed Zarqawi, held elections and defeated a dictator." Then we will RUN LIKE HELL (thankfully).  (this was in response to the previous post, regarding a "face saving" strategy
  • Warren Stupidity: So they are going to compare some bits of stuff to some other bits of stuff with no idea if any of the stuff belongs to the fictional multi-legged multi-lived bogeyman and then make a pronouncement just as the laying sack of shit in the white house is self destructing? How Convenient. (more SM boogeyman conspiracy idiocy)
  • Warren Stupidity (again): However, lets assume that the most likely fictional al zarqawi is now dead. So what? End of the insurgency? Freemon’n’moxy breaks out in Iraq? Finally our occupying army of heathen foreigners is welcomed with flowers? What? (guess he is one of those Love the Military libs, huh?)
  • fortyfeetunder: A reason to worry. I figure if this is for real, we have made a whole new set of enemies. What kind of retribution can we expect next? (true Surrender Monkey)

And the true kicker

  • Hyernel: The CIA will now have to invent a new boogyman……to blame stuff on.

Zarqawi was probably only responsible for about 20% of what was attributed to him. And whenever we bomb a wedding, or a playground full of kids, the Pentagon can trot out the "suspected alQaeda insurgent loyal to Zarqawi" label and paste it on whatever collateral damage gets fragged.

I’ll bet a new terror leader will "emerge"…one with an easy to pronounce, and eee-vil sounding, name that the American public can be plenty afraid of.

I don’t doubt that some guy named Zarqawi exists. I’ll just bet he’d be surprised at how active he’s been.
