Ghosts and goblins might not be the only scary things popping up this Halloween. Prices for the holiday’s most popular candy treats are rising, spooked by Donald Trump’s tariffs and climate change.

Candy prices are estimated to increase by 10.8% this year, according to new analysis from progressive groups the Century Foundation and the Groundwork Collaborative, with some popular chocolate-based treats seeing price upticks of at least 20%. The price increases could mean popular candy like Tootsie Rolls and Hershey’s chocolate and variety packs are a few dollars more expensive than just a year ago.

Chocolate candies are especially at risk of higher prices because of a years-long cocoa shortage that has caused the price of cocoa to triple over the last few years. Climate-related rain and damage to cocoa crops in west Africa – the biggest exporter of cocoa beans – have caused cocoa to peak at more than $12,000 per ton in 2024. Though prices have since gone down to about $6,000 per ton, they are still much higher than prices seen in 2020, when cocoa was $2,300 per ton.

The rising price of cocoa is only one part of the story on candy prices. Donald Trump has placed tariffs on the biggest exporters of chocolate to the US. Imports from the Ivory Coast, the largest producer of cocoa, are taxed with a 21% tariff. Ecuador, the second-largest producer, faces a 15% tariff.

Oh, you mean when the COVID lockdowns and such caused things to spike? But, you know, this is the fault of Trump and ‘climate change’. As for tariffs, perhaps those countries could remove their tariffs on US goods.

Of course, what they don’t want to mention is all constant price increase from Bidenflation during his years. Of course not.

Illinois Governor Asks DHS To Pause Immigration Arrests During Halloween

Noem rejects Illinois Gov. Pritzker’s request to pause immigration actions over Halloween weekend

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday flatly rejected a request by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker to suspend immigration enforcements in the Chicago area until after Halloween.

Pritzker cited children’s safety and an incident from Saturday in which Customs and Border Protection agents deployed tear gas in a neighborhood where kids were preparing for a Halloween parade.

In turning down the request, Noem also cited children’s safety.

“We’re absolutely not willing to put on pause any work that we will do to keep communities safe,” Noem said at a news conference in Gary, Indiana, on Thursday. “The fact that Gov. Pritzker is asking for that is shameful and, I think, unfortunate that he doesn’t recognize how important the work is that we do to make sure we’re bringing criminals to justice and getting them off our streets, especially when we’re going to send all of our kiddos out on the streets and going to events and enjoying the holiday season.”

Perhaps JB should have ordered Illinois law enforcement to work with DHS to get all the illegals out. Heck, they could have pointed DHS at the worst of the worst (who were being ignored by the governments in Illinois) which would have kept the ones who only broke the law by coming across the border illegally away from DHS….for a while, anyhow.

“I am respectfully requesting you suspend enforcement operations from Friday, October 31 to Sunday, November 2 in and around homes, schools, hospitals, parks, houses of worship, and other community gatherings where Halloween celebrations are taking place. Illinois families deserve to spend Halloween weekend without fear,” Pritzker wrote in a letter sent to Noem. “No child should be forced to inhale tear gas or other chemical agents while trick or treating in their own neighborhood.”

Yeah, well, if your voters would stop interfering, getting violent, blocking vehicles, assaulting federal agents, etc, there would be no tear gas.

Anyhow, why was Noem in Gary, Indiana?

ICE, Indiana troopers arrest more than 200 in immigration sweep

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem on Thursday said the cooperation of Indiana and other states on immigration is crucial to making the nation’s highways safer.

Noem, Gov. Mike Braun, and officials with both U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Indiana State Police said state troopers have arrested 223 people suspected of being in the country illegally in the span of a little more than a month. The enforcement is part of ICE’s larger immigration sweep in Chicago, dubbed Operation Midway Blitz.

Of Indiana’s arrestees, Noem said 146 were truck drivers, more than 40 of whom had commercial driver’s licenses issued by states with sanctuary state laws, which include California, Illinois and New York. She said the arrests have led to charges for drug trafficking, child abuse, prostitution, assault, and domestic battery. The move followed several recent, high-profile fatal crashes involving truck drivers who were in the country illegally.

Cult: Day Of The Dead Flowers Getting Killed By ‘Climate Change’

This orange flower cloaks Mexico during Day of the Dead. Climate change is putting it at risk

Lucia Ortiz trudges through endless fields of cempasuchil flowers, the luminescent orange petals of which will soon cloak everything from city streets to cemeteries across Mexico.

Here, in the winding canals and farms on the fringes of Mexico City, the flower also known as the Mexican marigold has been farmed for generations, and takes the spotlight every year in the country’s Day of the Dead celebrations.

But as 50-year-old Ortiz and other farmers busily bundle clusters of the plant to sell in markets around the capital, they quietly wonder what will be left of their livelihood down the line.

That’s because cempasuchil growers say they’ve been left reeling by torrential rains, stretching drought and other impacts from climate change — caused by the burning of fuels like gas, oil and coal — that have grown increasingly common.

 

Seriously, weather happens. How would they do if the world went into a new Little Ice Age?

This year, torrential rains stretching on for months wiped out more than 37,000 acres of crops across the country, according to government figures. In a visit to cempasuchil fields earlier this month in Xochimilco, Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada said that as many of 2 million marigold plants were put at risk. Despite that, she said that production this year simultaneously broke a record of 6 million plants as farmers ramp up to meet increasing demand even as growing the flower has become more precarious.

So, wait, broke the record and doomed? Cult.

Washington Halloween Displays Show Complete Trump Derangement Syndrome

Washington Halloween displays show scariest thing for Democrats is Trump

In some neighborhoods of heavily Democratic Washington, Halloween displays with a decidedly political tone have long been a tradition.

But ahead of Halloween on Friday – 10 months into Donald Trump’s second White House term driven by a conservative policy blitz most Democrats oppose – some residents are using the holiday to protest his policies with anti-Trump yard displays.

In a front yard close to the U.S. Capitol, Donna Breslin, 79, has installed an entire graveyard with 16 headstones to mark policy moves the Republican Trump has made since he took office in January that she says are killing off American democracy.

There are headstones – purchased on Amazon and hand-painted by Breslin – for “USAID,” and “research for health and science,” among others.

The Washington metropolitan area has borne the brunt of Trump’s cuts. A government shutdown, now in its 30th day, has forced many more civil servants to be furloughed with each party blaming the other.

All they have to do is tell their Democrat Senators to vote for a clean CR, as they had done 13 previous times.

Sadly, not a ton of photos, mostly of the same stuff. But, you know there is plenty more TDS in D.C.

One focus of this year’s Halloween displays is Trump’s health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has cut staff at the Department of Health and Human Services and promoted debunked claims that routine childhood vaccines cause harm.

In the wealthy, liberal Northwest Washington neighborhood of Georgetown, where Kennedy lives, there are multiple skeletons on display in front yards alongside vaccine-related messages.

A block from Kennedy’s house stands a giant 10-foot (3-meter)-tall skeleton next to a sign that reads, “Hi, I’m Wally! Vaccines save lives – believe me I know!”

Kennedy has restricted access to COVID-19 shots, boosted support for state vaccine exemptions, dismantled the vaccine review process, and expanded a national advisory board with like-minded critics of COVID shots.

The hardcore Democrats can still get their worthless 15th COVID booster, and then cry when they get COVID. Again.

They’re all wackadoodle. Just celebrate Halloween and relax.

CNN Data Guru Delivers Harsh Truth on Issue Dividing the Aisle

CNN’s data guru Harry Enten delivered bad news for Democrats: most Americans just don’t care about climate change.

The chief data analyst revealed on the network Wednesday that fewer than half of Americans are concerned about one of Democrats’ signature issues.

“The worry in terms of climate change, simply put, hasn’t shifted; it has not reached the majority of Americans,” Enten said.

Enten cited a Gallup poll that found just 40 percent of Americans worry a “great deal” about “global warming or climate change.”

He added that the new figure is the “same number as we had 25 years ago, back in 2000, and then only just five points higher than we had back in 1989.”

But, see, that worry is really only theoretical, not real world, because, as usual

Enten said that polls showed that only 2 percent of Americans feel climate change is the top issue facing the U.S., the same as 2023 and down from 3 percent in 2021.

When matched against real world issues, climate doom is always low.

Enten, 37, wrapped up the segment, explaining that the distress call sent out by climate activists has seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

“The bottom line is that the climate change message that folks who, of course, believe that climate change is real and is quite worrisome, simply put, has not really worked with the American people,” he said.

Well, how can it really work when the people pushing it the hardest are climahypocrites, and rarely practice what they preach? Also, that so many of them are wackos who glue themselves to things, attack paintings, and so forth.

More than 160 Republicans, including current Trump administration officials, may have been investigated by the FBI under former President Joe Biden, as part of the bureau’s sweeping Arctic Frost probe, documents show.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, US Pardon Attorney Ed Martin and White House trade adviser Peter Navarro are among the prominent GOP figures named in FBI files released by the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, detailing the massive scope of the Biden-era Justice Department’s investigation into allegations of 2020 election interference.

“What we’ve learned is it was much broader, much more expansive, than we ever thought,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

“This is why we want [former special counsel] Jack Smith in front of our committee in a deposition format,” Jordan (R-Ohio) continued.

“‘Was this a political operation you guys were running against President Trump? …. How many other members of Congress did you spy on?’ …. Those are the kind of questions we want to ask Jack Smith, to see what kind of answers we get from the guy who ran this whole operation,” the congressman added.

Now, imagine it was the Trump DOJ spying on 20% of Senate Democrats. Or, heck, just 1. This would be the lead story in every Credentialed Media outlet, Democrats would be throwing subpoenas left and right, and would be looking for a way to jail Trump. Cruz is calling this worse than Watergate, and he’s possibly correct, especially since the media wants to bury this

Huh: PRC Pension Fund Lost $332 Million On Green Energy

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System for state employees lost 71% of its $468 million investment in a clean energy and technology private equity fund, state records show, but CalPERS won’t explain how.

These losses are a major problem for California taxpayers, who at least for now are the backstop for underfunded state pensions, but also for state employees who trust CalPERS to responsibly manage their retirement plans.

CalPERS says its pension benefits are only 79% funded, leaving the state, and its taxpayers, on the hook for the other 21%. According to a recent report from Reason Foundation, CalPERS’ pension shortfall is approximately $180 billion. (snip)

CalPERS committed $465 million to the private equity CalPERS Clean Energy & Technology Fund (CETF) in 2007, ultimately paying in $468,423,814.

Since then, the cash out and remaining investment value of the investment fund has declined to $138,045,373, as of March 31,2025.

That’s a loss of 71%, or more than $330 million, for which private equity firms were paid at least $22 million in fees and costs.

Now, imagine the government investigations if a private firm lost this money

The Center Square filed a public records request seeking more details into the fund’s losses, including management contracts with the firms investing CalPERS’ money, and the investments made with CalPERS funding by those firms. CalPERS declined to release the information, aside from sharing already-public records, citing a state law exempting many records for alternative investments — such as private equity — from many public disclosure requirements.

“The public should have a right to know how public money is being invested,” said David Loy, legal director for First Amendment Coalition, a government transparency and free speech nonprofit, in an email to The Center Square. “This is a serious transparency concern if the public doesn’t have visibility into how public money, especially pension funds, are being invested and to what degree of risk.”

Anyone else thinking the money went to hook up good Democrat donors? Disappeared into pockets? If the Credentialed Media had any integrity they would be asking pointed questions, investigating, and asking Newsom questions.

NY Times: Trump Suggests He Can’t Run For A Third Term

Trump Suggests He Knows He Can’t Run Again: ‘It’s Too Bad’

President Trump seemed to concede on Wednesday that he was not eligible to serve a third term, lamenting that it was an unfortunate result of the constitutional prohibition that he has mused about violating for months.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, the last leg of his three-country diplomatic tour across Asia, Mr. Trump said it was “too bad” that he couldn’t run in 2028.

“We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had, I have my highest poll numbers that I’ve ever had,” he boasted (his approval rating remains low, at 43 percent, according to a New York Times average). “And, you know, based on what I read, I guess I’m not allowed to run. So we’ll see what happens.”

The remarks came after House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Tuesday there was no path around the Constitution’s two-term limit.

There really isn’t a path.

Since retaking the White House, Mr. Trump has repeatedly teased that he may never leave. For several months, Mr. Trump has discussed serving a third term, vacillating between joking to goad his critics and signaling that it would be one of many ways he would seek to test the bounds of his constitutional authority.

Even as recently as Saturday, Mr. Trump said, “I would love to do it,” when asked about serving another four years.

While I’m sure Trump would love to serve another term, mostly what he’s doing here is trolling Democrats, and, like most things he says, it drives them full on barking moonbat. They take everything he says at full value, with no cognition that he’s winding them up. Even the people in the media who cover Trump and should know better are wound up like a jack in the box, popping up with apoplexy.

Asked on Wednesday whether he had been “trolling” or serious about serving, Mr. Trump indicated that he had come to terms with the 22nd Amendment, which states that no one can be elected president more than twice (consecutively or not).

“If you read it, it’s pretty clear — I’m not allowed to run,” he said. “It’s too bad.”

And the Times doesn’t think he’s trolling them. And what’s going to happen now is that Trump will continue to tweak the noses of Democrats over this, and they will run on Crazy, even the NY Times after publishing this.
