Religion of Peace(?) update

From the Financial Times:

A series of car bombs targeting Shia neighborhoods in Baghdad killed 40 people late Wednesday and early Thursday, while a Sunni politician was assassinated in an apparent attempt to discourage leaders of Iraq’s former ruling minority from participating in the political process.

One of the bombs detonated outside a Shia mosque, but the other two car bombs went off outside rows of shops, away from any other apparent target. Residents said that they had spotted another bomber and arrested him before he could set off a fourth explosion.

Why should we care if they don’t?

Stop the ACLU wackjobs!

This may get a little bit wonky, since, as Jebediah stated last night, I don’t, at this time, support a Constitutional Amendment to ban the burning of the Flag. Go to my previous post to see why. But the ACLU is against the Amendment, as well. Go figure. The thing is, we are against this for different reasons.

Mine are already laid out, but the ACLU is against it simply because they, and the ultra liberal courts, say that this is Free Speech. I have already debunked that. Who am I to say that? I am an American Citizen. I’m not a judge, I’m not part of a Left Wing activist group like the ACLU, I am simply and American Citizen, whose opinion does matter in the greater scheme.

So, what I propose, is a law allowing me to poke someone in the snout if I catch them burning the Flag. If the courts support something which isn’t Speech by any definition of the word, then the ACLU should support me in my action of popping someone in the nose. I am just expressing my 1st Amendment Rights, aren’t I? Yes. I am protesting in a manner that is no worse. Or, perhaps they would support me in ripping the clothes off a protester and burning them. Maybe burning their pot smelling micro bus. Can watch the beads on their curtains pop off. But, they probably would not support me, since I would be standing up for something pro American.

On the Flag Amendment

Well, Teach and I were playing golf and discussing the proposed Flag Amendment. Yes, pirates need to relax, too. This isn’t a White Trash Wednesday post. This is serious. Now, reading around the ‘sphere, I have run across folks who support the Amendment, and folks who don’t. (Kinda shows that those who are Right of center aren’t sheeple, eh?) Now, Teach and I love the Flag. That is why he started the American Flag League. People burning it pisses us off royaly. But do we need an Amendment? Good question.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Burning the Flag is not Free Speech. Speech is not action, but word. Over the years, decades, and centuries, but particularly through the latter half of the 20th, people have forgotten that, and applied Free Speech to things which are not. Burning the Flag is not speech.

Furthermore, burning a Flag turns a peacable assembly to a violent one. Burning a Flag is not a proper forum to petition the Government for redress.

But is an Amendment necessary? I say no. Arson and violence are already crimes. People who burn the Flag should be arrested. While what flag burners do is certainly worse in my eyes then standard mayhem, let’s apply existing laws. It is not against the law to kill a Bald Eagle because they are a national symbol. It is against the law because they are endangered.

What we need are courts that will uphold the First Amendment, not rewrite it for their own Liberal purposes. We do not need an Amendment, but regular laws that protect it, like we used to have in 48 States before the liberal courts shot them down, over-ruling the Will of the People.

Furthermore, I would say that what we need is a law that allows people to beat the shit out of anyone burning the flag. Violence is not always the answer, but sometimes, it is. Or, maybe bring back dueling, even if it is with guns that shoot bean bags, similar to what the police use, or rubber bullets. People need to know that there are consequences for their bad behavior and conduct.

Now, I will say, my mind is not made up 100%. I will gladly listen to any arguments for or against the Amendment. Say your piece.

Woops: Apparently I cut out a sentence. I have added it in red.

A random thought

Just sitting here, having a Carolina Pale Ale, eating some pork rinds, and a thought hit me. The Lefties always say "we’re better than that (in reference to the USA when things go wrong)." You’re damn right we are, so why not try supporting the USA, for a change, Lefties?

Meanwhile, God does exist:

A 12-year-old girl who was abducted and beaten by men trying to force her into a marriage was found being guarded by three lions who apparently had chased off her captors, a policeman said Tuesday.

She was beaten repeatedly before she was found June 9 by police and relatives on the outskirts of Bita Genet, Wondimu said. She had been guarded by the lions for about half a day, he said.

"They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest," Wondimu said.

Durbin Feller’ apolergizes, Kosbat silent

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

‘Bought damn time you wised up, Dickie:

Sen. Dick Durbin (search) went to the Senate floor late Tuesday to offer his apologies to anyone who may have been offended by his comparison of treatment of detainees at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to Nazis, Soviet gulags and Cambodia’s Pol Pot.

"More than most people, a senator lives by his words … occasionally words fail us, occasionally we will fail words," Durbin, D-Ill., said. "I am sorry if anything I said caused any offense or pain to those who have such bitter memories of the Holocaust, the greatest moral tragedy of our time. Nothing, nothing should ever be said to demean or diminish that moral tragedy.

"I am also sorry if anything I said cast a negative light on our fine men and women in the military … I never ever intended any disrespect for them. Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line to them I extend my heartfelt apology," Durbin said, choking on his words.

Dude was whimpering and crying, a bit of snot running from his honker. Teach and I have talked over a 12 pack, and it is time to forgive, but not forget. Give Durbin the benefit of the doubt and reckon that the apolergy was sincere.

That’s H.O.T!

Very interesting article over at Human Events (thanks for the tip, Granny!) It’s about taxes. Yes, taxes. They can be exciting, ya know. Yup. Trust me. (Read Showdown at Gucci Gulf some day).

President Bush’s bipartisan Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform should propose a measure to assist a neglected segment of society: the avowedly under-taxed. The H.O.T. Tax would give those who think their levies are too low the ability to pay the steeper tax bills they say they deserve. This is the truly compassionate thing to do.

The H.O.T., or Higher-rate Optional Tax, would offer relief to powerful Democrats and wealthy liberals who cannot stand it when Republicans cut their taxes. Look how lowering taxes has raised the blood pressure of these Americans:

Followed by a whole list of Dem Congress Critters who refuse to pay higher taxes. Including, you guessed it, Kerry.

Giving Bolton a 3rd shot

I was going to put up a snarky picture of related to Voinovich crying on the Floor. Again. But, more important stuff.

…after meeting with Bush, Frist came out to the cameras stationed at the White House and said he would schedule a third vote to end debate and vote for confirmation.

"The president made it very clear that he expects an up or down vote," he said, adding that Democratic resistance has nothing to do with Bolton, but everything to do with resentment toward the president.

If that fails, then George "still the President" Bush should should just appoint Bolton during the mid-term recess. Screw it. No matter what Dingy Harry has said:

"The president will have to make a decision whether he wants to send this flawed candidate to the United Nations under an also questionable constitutional measure, which is being tested in the courts as we speak,"

Sorry, Harry, but you fail Civics 101. It is not a "questionable constitutional measure." In fact, Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution states:

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Pretty clear to me. But, of course, the Constitution only applies when it suits the Dems.

Kos Still Doesn’t Get It

From Kosbat:

It’s worth noting that both Cole and Trevino are veterans (funny how it’s the veterans on the Right who are most outraged at the torture allegations). And while we disagree vehemetly on the war. They support it, I oppose it. There is consensus between us that torture is not what America stands for.

There are issues that can legitimately be fought for partisan gain. This isn’t one of them. Too much is at stake.

What he means is that we should take his position on the "torture" issue. I’ll say right now, the war on terror, and the war in Iraq, should be not be fought for partisan gain. Negative words hurt our efforts. Will you support that, Marcos?

Deflecting away from Durbin’s comments does our troops a great disservice, Marcos, especially when Durbin’s comments are playing all over the Middle East. Al Jazeera is peeing their pants in glee like a puppy when visitors stop by. He said them. Cole and Trevino have their opinions. Others have theirs.

Is torture wrong? Yup. Yet I haven’t seen you lashing out against the islamofascists for what they have done. Matter of fact, I remember your "screw them" comment. You used the beheadings as political fodder. Put up or shut up. Cause your right, too much is at stake. You hate the Iraq war, we get it. What we get is you hate it because GWB is President. Your comments, as pretty much the head moonbat in the blogosphere, harm the interests of the USA.

Update: The Anchoress has an interesting take on the moonbats over the Durbin issue (h/t Little Miss Attila):

Sorry folks. Sorry, Dems. You have to address this. You have to either denounce it or be prepared to OWN it throughout your party. And if you want to be convincing…make him resign.

Good point. Funny how not one Dem has come out and said that what Durbin said was wrong. Not one. Whose the sheeple? And no one will be moving on anytime soon till you Dems do.

And even more: Rick at RightWing NutHouse has a really good article on Durbin.

With that kind of stupidity, I see no hope for dialogue. Therefore, the Durbin issue not only won’t die, it will grow in intensity as Durbin and his apologists seek to find some way to justify their outrageous statements.

True, very true.
