Liberals Having Fits Over NC Gov. McCrory Stating He Will Sign Bills They Hate

Elections have consequences. Obama got his failed and wasteful Stimulus, along with the heavily unpopular Obamacare. NC Senator Richard Burr and Tom Coburn are right, shutting down government to defund Obamacare is the wrong way to go about it. Whether we like it or not, Obamacare is the law: it needs to repealed by Congress, which means keeping the House, retaking the Senate, and obtaining the White House in 2016. And, challenging O-care in court.

Well, when it comes to the big laws passed by the North Carolina General Assembly (voter ID, abortion safety, budget (which includes education spending) and gun rights) , elections have consequences, Liberals. The People of NC were tired of what Democrats were doing, and wanted a new direction. Governor McCrory will sign the bills. Which has made Liberals nuts. Witness the NY Times’ David Firestone, who received the talking points email about “voter suppression”

North Carolina: First in Voter Suppression

But as yesterday’s events in the state capital showed, one thing is making a comeback: an old habit of suppressing the votes of minorities, young people and the poor, all in the hopes of preserving Republican power.

Freed of federal election supervision by the Supreme Court, the North Carolina legislature passed a bill that combines every idea for suppressing voter turnout that Republicans have advanced in other states. Rick Hasen, an election-law expert at the University of California, Irvine, called it “the most sweeping anti-voter law in at least decades.”

The law requires a government-issued photo ID card to vote, but doesn’t allow student IDs, public-employee IDs, or photo IDs issued by public assistance agencies. It shortens the early voting window, bans same-day registration during early voting and prohibits paid voter registration drives. Counties will not be able to extend voting hours in cases of long lines, or allow provisional voting if someone arrives at the wrong precinct. Poll “observers” are encouraged to challenge people who show up to vote, and are given new powers to do so.

Liberals have long had hissy fits over voter ID. It makes the ACLU apoplectic. One liberal at a News and Observer article responded to a comment by myself and called ID a “poll tax”. Another wrote that voter ID assumes people are guilty before being proven innocent (so, that means every time you prove who you are, that’s wrong? Does this mean that having to show an ID to purchase a gun and apply for a license is wrong, too? Sure seems like it. How about when showing ID at a TSA checkpoint?). But, let’s consider something: most states have some sort of voter ID requirements, including

  • Illinois – “Any time a voter uses Early Voting, the voter must present a government-issued photo ID.” An ID with your name and address is required. The IDs are not required to feature a photograph of the elector.[12] “If you register by mail, you must vote in person the first time, either at the polling place, in-person absentee or early voting, unless you submit with your mail-in registration form your driver license number or state ID number, the last four digits of your social security number, or one of the forms of ID listed below.”[13]
  • Delaware – Valid voter ID includes a photo ID, utility bill, paycheck or any other government document with your name and address on it.
  • Hawaii – In order to vote, electors must present valid photo ID with a signature. Additionally, voters will be asked to sign a poll book to record that they voted at the polling place. Voter Registration Notice is NOT an acceptable form of identification.
  • California – SB1016 (effective January 1, 2006) requires voters to provide their driver’s license number or state identification number. If they do not have either, they may use the last four digits of their social security card. If they also do not have a social security card number, the state will assign a unique number which may be used for voting purposes.

So, in the home states of the President and VP, some sort of voter ID is required at some point. Hawaii, a very deep Blue state, has a restrictive voter ID law, and no issues. In Brokeifornia, they don’t have to show it, but must have an ID to have the numbers (obviously, if no ID, then it leads to SS#, followed by a way to make it easier for illegal aliens to vote). Many States, including Blue states, require ID to register and/or ID to vote. In some cases, such as NY, doesn’t have to be a photo ID. Or some way of proving they are who they are.

Voting is Important. Liberals still whine about Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004 (mostly because they lost, and let’s not forget that most of the problems occurred in precincts run by Democrats). What is so wrong with ascertaining that the person voting is that person, that they’re entitled to vote there, and that they haven’t already voted? They trot out their “voter suppression” meme, but, Hawaii doesn’t have problems. Their argument is really a racist one, since they assume that Blacks are too stupid to be able to earn the money and obtain a picture ID, something which most people have.

BTW, most of the liberals (Salon, ThinkProgress, Daily Kos, msnbc.com, Alan Colmes’ Liberaland and Taegan Goddard’s …) linking to the Memeorandum thread about McCrory saying he will sign the bills are upset about abortion on demand, of course. They all apparently have a problem with making the process safer. They prefer the Kermit Gosnell house of horrors type abortion clinics.

Just Because The Warming Has Gone Missing Doesn’t Mean You, And I Mean You, Shouldn’t Be Forced To Walk To Work

Warmists are desperately searching for ways to keep their dying cult going. Here’s Brad Plumer at The Washington Post

Global warming appears to have slowed lately. That’s no reason to celebrate.

What do you see when you look at this chart?

Well, if you’re not a dogmatic, brainwashed, science-avoiding (and hypocritical in your own life) Warmist like Brad, you see yearly changes in average temperature caused by nature in the blue and red, and that nature is mostly responsible for the other years. If you are Warmist, though

1) Global warming is still very much with us. The recent slowdown in temperature rise has left climatologists a bit puzzled, but it certainly doesn’t disprove global warming. The evidence on the effects of greenhouse gases, after all, stretches back more than a century.

No, it doesn’t disprove global warming. It does disprove the notion of anthropogenic global warming, ie, “climate change”, being the main or sole driver of the Modern Warm Period.

This is followed by the “OMG, the heat is hiding in the deep oceans!!!! We’re eventually doooooomed!!!” meme, and then the “OMG, things are going to get super duper hot and people and animals will spontaneously combust and life on earth will end, so we need all sorts of taxes and government and stuff”. Standard Warmist doctrine. Without the ability to prove scientifically that those gray bars are mostly or solely caused by Mankind.

Driving Habits That Annoy The Crap Out Of Me

There are several things about drivers that annoy the crap out of. I despise people who run red lights, having been hit by a someone blowing off a red light. Those who have neon on their POS vehicles. Those who sit in a parking lot or drive around a residential neighborhood with the stereo thumping with massive amounts of bass. People going slow in the fast lane. Those who litter from their cars. Not using a signal. Here are two of my really big pet peeves, based on my daily commute to and from work

First up are jerks who get all the way to the red light then decide “hey, I’ll get in another lane, I can get a half car ahead!!!!!! Yay Me!” OK, sometimes it can be several car lengths. Why didn’t you do this before you almost or fully came to a stop? Sure, this is really no big deal, it’s just an annoyance. But, it does highlight selfish drivers, who apparently aren’t paying attention. And it is annoying when you cut if front of me when you do this. Oh, and now you want back into the other lane so you go faster or turn? Trust me, I’ll attempt to block you if I can.

Did I say that this was really just an annoyance? How about dangerous? Recently a jackass did this, which gained her 1 1/2 car lengths…which the loaded dump truck driver had previously added in to his mental calculation in terms of stopping at the light. All of a sudden this lane shift caused him to have to slam on the breaks, which were smoking when the dump truck hit the woman’s car. Fortunately, not more than a minor/moderate accident, though the back end of the woman’s car was toast, and the hit forced her car into another car at the light. So, because of her actions, her own car was damaged along with someone else’s car. Both the dump truck driver and the other driver were now going to have to spend lots of time not working. And all those who witnessed this were by law required to wait for the police.

But, only myself and one other waited around. I gladly waited around, though it did make me late to work and cause me to split a sale with another rep. I gleefully told the officer taking statements that it was All The Fault of the woman. Not because she’s a woman, mind you, but a jerk driver. Otherwise the dump truck driver would have been on the hook, based on the law. The cops had an idea that it wasn’t his fault from the get go, based on the tire marks. I told her insurance agency this morning that “yup, her fault!”

Even bigger and more annoying is people who intentionally wait till the last minute to move over into the lane they need to be in. I’ll grant that in some instances this is because they haven’t been able to get over, there’s no space. Mostly, though, it’s because they are either not paying attention to the signs that alert them way beforehand and because they are assholes. I posted this once before

Don’t be that person. It is dangerous. You cause people to slam on their brakes, which is not good for people’s blood pressure, nor is it safe for vehicles to be so close to each other as they attempt to make sure assholes don’t cut in. This happens every single day on the way home. People will be in far left lane and cut over another whole lane to attempt to get in the lane to get in the one to take them onto the inner 440 beltline, and sometime even into the far right lane to get the outer beltine lane, coming east on Glenwood Ave just past Crabtree Valley Mall.

And it’s no better taking 540 East. There are two lanes merging into 540, and rush hour is bad enough without people, who have seen signs saying “merge, jackass!!!”…ok, more like “lane ends” and keep going till they can force their way in. And what does all this do? It slows down traffic behind as people are forced to slam on their brakes. I once read a study that said that any tap on the breaks slows traffic down for 2 miles behind. All so people can save 20 seconds or so and be a cool breeze. And they miss all the accidents that occur thanks to their assholish and reckless driving.

Anyhow, what bugs you? What pisses you off? No politics, please, just crap that bugs you. Like people who get in the self checkout/fast checkout with more than 20 items. People who get to the register and aren’t sure what they want. The Hendrick Automotive commercials (good grief, they are patronizing and constantly on). Buying bananas that need a day and seeing them go bad immediately. Whatcha got?

Mother Of Sean Smith Wants Obama To Answer How Her Son Being Dead Is A “Phony Scandal”

There were only two things that came out of Obama’s latest “pivot” to the economy: 1st, all he has is stale, failed ideas and blamestorming. 2nd, his calling scandals, like the intentional targeting of Tea Party groups by the IRS and what happened in Benghazi, “phony” and “fake”. Why don’t we ask the mother of Sean Smith

(Daily Caller) The mother of a Benghazi victim is furious about the new White House strategy of calling the terrorist attack and many other scandals plaguing the Obama administration “fake” or “phony.”

Patricia Smith, mother of Sean Smith, who was slain in the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack, lashed out on “Your World” on the Fox News Channel about that terminology.

President Obama has never revealed what, if anything, he was doing while workers at the Benghazi embassy were urgently requesting support, nor has the administration explained why no forces were sent to protect the embassy. The administration also denied the attack was a terrorist incident, claiming it was a spontaneous protest against an obscure YouTube trailer for a film that may or may not exist.

“I don’t believe him anymore,” Smith said. “He’s wrong. My son is dead. How could that be phony?”

According to Smith, she has been given no answers about what happened that night. She said the administration told her she “didn’t need to know.”

Don’t expect most of the media to give her the same time and prestige that they gave Cindy Sheehan, because that would be inconvenient to El Presidente Obama. We’re fast approaching the one year anniversary of the terrorist attack on Benghazi, and we still don’t have all the answers and the Obama administration is still stonewalling.

Sadly, this has had to be turned into a political issue, thanks to Obama and his minions. Calling these scandals phony and fake makes it worse. Is it fake that agencies under the “supervision” of Mr. Obama ran guns into Mexico, which has resulted in the deaths of at least 200 Mexicans, including children, Mexican law enforcement, and two US federal border agents? Apparently so, to the most divisive president ever.

(Newsmax) “I think it’s like the captain of the Titanic calling the iceberg phony,” Gerritson said. The only phony thing she said she sees is the narrative the White House is trying to push off on the American people.

That’s Becky Gerritson of Alabama’s Wetumpka Tea Party, which was targeted by the IRS.

Double sadly, it’s hard for Americans to concentrate on any one scandal or issue because when it comes to America under Obama there are so, so many problems.

Dems Big Recess Plans: Focus On “Climate Change”

Glad they have their priorities straight, what with a poor jobs market, real wages in the crapper, more and more people being shifted to part time positions, historic numbers of people dropping out of the jobs market, etc and so on. You know the hit parade.

(Politico) The White House, congressional Democrats and their allies are plotting an August recess offensive to promote President Barack Obama’s climate change plan and head off Republican opposition.

The full-court press shows that liberals have learned from past August congressional recesses, when Republicans, aided by the tea party, out organized Democrats and managed to demonize cap and trade and blame them for high gas prices.

“The Democrats should seize the opportunity to contrast themselves with the nihilistic House Republicans by advocating solutions to these challenges — including climate change,” said Daniel Weiss, senior fellow and director of climate strategy for the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

And what kinds of action are they pushing? The same things Obama is pushing: more taxes, more regulation, more Big Government, more spending. Strangely absent is the notion that people who believe in “climate change” should change their own behavior.

The strategy is two-fold. First, liberals hope to better articulate the threats posed by climate change to the average citizen, including sea level rise, drought and wildfires. Second, they plan to call out Republicans in Congress who are skeptical about climate change science.

So, we can expect lots of scary stories about things that “might” happen decades into the future, provided by people who take lots of fossil fueled flights and drive around in fossil fueled vehicles. And, as we all know, the best way to get someone to work with you is to insult them, demonize them, and call them names.

Starting next week, (EPA head Gina) McCarthy will begin traveling around the country to discuss the importance of acting on climate change. The White House official said her schedule includes speeches, media events and meetings with outside groups — all of which will be promoted heavily on social media. And the official added that McCarthy will begin meeting with states soon to discuss the agency’s pending climate regulations.

So, she’s going to take lots of fossil fueled planes and motor vehicles to explain the danger of fossil fuels? This is all being ginned up by Obama’s “independent” Organizing For Action, which will itself hold a “day of action” on August 13. I wonder what the Gore Effect will look like on that day? Anyhow, will they recommend every Warmist like a “carbon neutral” life that day? Nope. Perish the thought. They’ll push the same old taxes, Big Government, and control over Other People’s lives. Oh, and that Obama should unilaterally Do Something, like he’s a dictator, not POTUS.

Here’s your homework: go to these rallies and town halls, your Congress critter’s office if necessary and they’re a Democrat, ask them what they are doing in their own lives. Put them on the spot.

PS: The Politico story even attempts the old silliness of putting a power-plant picture at the top of the story, supposedly putting out CO2, when in fact CO2 is colorless.

Time: We’re Doomed When Antarctica Melts

Majorly dooooomed, per Bryan Walsh, one of Time’s resident climaysterics

Antarctica Melted in the Past, and As the Climate Warms, It’s Poised to Melt Again

Wait, wait, the headline says it has happened before, and will happen again? What made it happen before? Bryan goes on to describe that Antarctica has been relatively stable, boring, and for the most part non-melting (temps have been flat for this entire century), then

A new study in the journal Nature Geoscience suggests that large of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet experienced significant melting during the Pleistocene Pliocene epoch*, between 5.3 and 2.6 million years ago, when atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide were similar to where they are today, and temperatures were about 2 to 3 C warmer than they are now. It was a time when sea levels were some 66 ft. higher than they are today—more than high enough to swamp coastal cities. While scientists knew that all of Greenland and West Antarctica had to be ice-free at the time, the sediment data in the Nature Geoscience shows that the East Antarctic ice sheet must have retreated a couple hundred miles inland. “The East Antarctic Ice Sheet has been much more sensitive to climate change in the past than previously realized,” said the study’s lead author, Carys Cook of Imperial College London, in a statement.

If CO2 was the same as today, but temps were higher, then, wouldn’t that mean that something else was driving the warmth other than CO2? But, we’re all meant to freak out about CO2. Because apparently the Antarctic permafrost is melting faster than evah!!!! but, um, wait, ah

It’s important to note that global warming is not responsible for the permafrost melt here—that region of Antarctic actually experienced a cooling trend from 1986 to 2000, followed by relatively stable temperatures. The Scientific Letters researchers suggest instead that the melting is due to an increase in radiation from sunlight resulting from changing weather patterns that allow more light to reach the ground during the summer.

So, not global warming, and certainly not anthropogenic global warming. Just nature. Good to know. So the entire point of the article, which was to Blame humans, was false.

NCDC Changing Temperature Data Values

(I’ve been sitting on this post as a draft for a couple days, thought I would finally post it based on an earlier comment by John, in which we can clearly see that the “2010 is the hottest year evah! ” talking point is a lie, and Warmists don’t care enough to see hard data)

I happened to be looking up some values regarding the talking points of “9 of the 10 warmest years EVAH!!!!!! occurring during this century” in a whiny post at Climate Progress by Tiffany Germain. Those values came from a post by Anthony Watts. Let’s take a look at some of those values, shall we?

Warmists: Global Warming Is Just Around The Corner, We Promise

Over at Ace of Spades, Ace mentions a study that links sunspots to the high level of warming that occurred from the late 19070’s to around 1990, and how that lack of sunspots is predicting a cooling period. That reminded me of this article from Monday that I stuck in Instapaper (via Tom Nelson)

Global warming ‘on pause’ but set to resume

Global warming has been on “pause” for 15 years but will speed up again and is still a real threat, Met Office scientists have warned.

Surface temperatures around the world have not increased on average since the late 1990s, causing some sceptics to suggest that climate change is not happening as quickly as experts predict.

But in a set of three new reports, the Met Office claims that global warming has been disguised in recent years by the oceans, which have absorbed greater amounts of heat and prevented us from noticing the difference at surface level.

This process, caused by the natural cycle of the oceans, could delay earlier predictions of global warming by five to ten years but will not last forever, researchers explained.

Hooray, they got their “the warming is hiding” talking points down, to go with the newer “it’s not the land temperature, but the sea temperature that matters” TP. The article also notes that natural things, like volcanoes, are masking the warming…um, so why can’t the initial warming be mostly or solely natural?

The Met Office has predicted it could be another five years before surface temperatures begin to rise again, but said the current “pause” would not affect long-term global warming forecasts.

“Trust us, it’s coming” (unless we pass laws that enact wealth transfers, er, carbon taxes, control the behavior of individuals and business, and take over economies). Mark your calendars to see if their predictions come true, because they made the same type previously. Yeah, how’s that working out?

The world faces record-breaking temperatures as the sun’s activity increases, leading the planet to heat up significantly faster than scientists had predicted for the next five years, according to a study.

That was 2009. But, what we’ve seen is no resumption of warming. Europe and much of the world has seen the past 4 out of 5 winters being harsh. Spring 2013 was barely a glimmer, and in many places never really made an appearance. Much of the Southern Hemisphere is experiencing a harsh winter now. As I’ve mention numerous times, since 1990 the global temperature, per Met Office data, has increase just 0.28F, and a statistically insignificant 0.14F since 1997, most of that from the 1998 El Nino.

So, what’s going to happen? Damned if I know. Damned if the Warmists know. The studies suggesting a coming cool period, either a short term one similar to the 1940’s to late 1970’s, or even a deep period like the Little Ice Age, could be right. Or not. Warming could restart next year, or 5-10 years out. Or not. Right now the world is in an elevated warm period following the 1998 El Nino. Some data shows that the global temps are actually going down a little bit. The climate will do what the climate will do. We are mostly along for the ride. One thing we can count on is that no matter what happens, Warmists will Blame Mankind. If we flip into a cool period of any length, expect the talking points to blame Mankind in some form or fashion for the “climate change” while simultaneously stating that nature and the actions of Mankind are masking the effects of anthropogenic global warming.
