Pew Survey: Majority Want More Deportations, Better Security At Southern Border

For all the caterwauling from elected Democrats, their pundits, and their pet media regarding illegal aliens, it seems that Americans are rather concerned with illegal immigration

Pew Research: 6-in-11 Americans Want More Deportations of Illegal Aliens

A majority of Americans say they want to see more deportations of illegal aliens and increased security along the United States-Mexico border, a new survey finds.

The latest Pew Research Center survey reveals that nearly 70 percent of all Americans believe increased security at the porous U.S.-Mexico border is very or somewhat important — including more than 90 percent of Republican voters.

Another 54 percent of Americans said more deportations of the nation’s 11 million to 22 million illegal alien population is very or somewhat important. Republican voters by a majority of 83 percent said increasing deportations of illegal aliens is important ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

The findings come as President Trump’s administration has constructed less than 80 miles thus far of border wall along the southern border, though officials have repeatedly said hundreds of miles of construction is on its way.

This information is certainly not helpful for all the Democrats who are refusing to fund the border barrier, putting a budget deal in jeopardy. It might help with the hardcore base, but, the majority of U.S. citizens are surely saying “why don’t the Democrats want to secure the border? Why are they willing to stop the federal budget over illegal aliens?”

These are who Democrats are protecting

That’s just a small portion of those affected by illegal alien crime. Oh, and as for the Dreamers?

Roughly 80,000 DACA migrants, or one-in-ten, have an arrrest record, says an updated report from the Department of Homeland Security.

Nearly 110,000 DACA requestors out of nearly 889,000 (12%) had arrest records. Offenses in these arrest records include assault, battery, rape, murder and driving under the influence.

Of approved DACA requestors with an arrest, more than 31% (24,898) of them had more than one arrest.

Of all DACA requestors, 218 had more than 10 arrests. Of those, 54 had a DACA case status of “approved” as of October 2019.

Of course, the Open Borders advocates will say that illegal aliens commit crimes at a lower rate than U.S. citizens, missing the point that illegal alien crime should be zero percent, since they shouldn’t be here.

Say, Why Is Venice Flooding? Climate Or Corruption?

Venice (the one in Italy) has been in the news lately because it has been flooding, and, of course, it is being blamed on man-caused climate change. It makes no difference to the climate cultists that it was built on a swamp, and has been flooding for centuries, and, there’s nothing new about a sea level increase during a Holocene warm period. Also, there are tectonic forces at play. But, what of corruption? This is rather surprising, coming from the left leaning Daily Beast

Venice Is Flooding Because of Corruption

In 1984, long before global warming and rising sea levels were common notions, Venice already was sinking. The future was so dire for the lagoon city that the local council voted to spend whatever it would take to study and then build a high-tech floodgate system to combat the rising Adriatic Sea.

It took nearly 20 years and a starting budget of $1.8 billion to come up with the so-called “Moses” plan. The project is an acronym for Modulo Sperimentale Elettromeccanico or Experimental Electromechanical Module, and plays on the name of the biblical figure who parted the Red Sea.

Silvio Berlusconi, Italy’s then prime minister, inaugurated the project in 2003 with the promise it would be completed by 2011, which was pushed back to 2014, which was pushed back to 2016, and, at last check, to 2021. Had the project been completed in time, Moses’ 78 massive mechanical gates might have limited this week’s devastating floods, which inundated 85 percent of the city with a tidal surge that topped six feet, causing millions of dollars’ worth of damage and putting ancient treasures at risk. Moses likely would not have completely kept out the surge, experts say, but it would have certainly done more than the alternative, which was to do nothing but tally the damage and wait for the next high tide.

So, it’s not done yet. What is the cost of it now?

In the 16 years since the Moses plan was put in place, the budget to finish the project has exploded to more than $7 billion and continues to bleed money at a dizzying rate. Some of the money has gone to bad management or corrupt contractors who have swindled the builders. In July, workers discovered that the 156 hinges—each weighing 36 tons—on the underwater barriers that were supposed to last a century are nearly rusted shut after just a decade under water. The job was awarded to a company called Gruppo Mantovani, which won the $275 million contract without there being a formal bid. La Stampa newspaper reports that the company used sub-par steel and is being investigated. Replacing the hinges will take a further 10 years and cost another $34 million, according to the Consorzio Venezia Nuova, which is in charge of the project.

And therein lies the problem with all the “solutions” that the Cult of Climastrology wants implement: they say it will cost X, but, the real costs will explode. Same with all the taxes and fees they demand be implemented. Well, one of the problems

More troubling still is that a lot of the money meant to finish the project has been siphoned away by rampant corruption. Several special funds fed by art lovers and patrons of the city that were meant to defray costs have disappeared into thin air. In 2014 after an investigation, Venice’s mayor Giorgio Orsoni resigned and 35 people tied to the project were arrested for bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering. The investigation traced some $27 million that had disappeared from the Moses coffers to kickbacks from contractors and foreign bank accounts allegedly used to line the pockets of about 100 people.

How much graft and corruption did we see with the “green” portions of Obama’s Stimulus? Just mention the name “Solyndra.” Government is inefficient, irresponsible with The People’s money, and open to graft and corruption. And, as the article goes on to discuss, the Moses plan was poorly conceived, and even those parts that are operational do not work right. When some gates were tested they were so loud and vibrated so much people thought there was an earthquake.

William Barr’s ‘Authoritarian’ Trump Defense Triggers Calls For His Impeachment

Attorney General William Barr’s latest extreme defense of Donald Trump has triggered a wave of calls for his impeachment — and disbarment.

Richard Painter, the former chief White House ethics attorney in the George W. Bush administration, tweeted that Barr’s remarks Friday before the conservative Federalist Society were “another lunatic authoritarian speech” amid an impeachment investigation into the president. He claimed that Barr — a member of the conservative Catholic society Opus Dei — is “the type of bare knuckles lawyer the Church would have hired thirty years ago to cover up sex abuse cases.”

Considering what occurred during the Obama administration years, Painter didn’t do a very good job.

Barr’s speech to the Federalist Society, a conservative legal organization that has been instrumental in reshaping the courts, attacked Democrats for declaring a “war of resistance” against Trump. He claimed “scorched earth, no-holds-barred” challenges to the president’s power amount to the left’s “systematic shredding of [constitutional] norms and undermining the rule of law.”

Barr appeared to come close to equating Democratic efforts to rein in Trump to a kind of religious terrorism by quoting 18th century Massachusetts Federalist Rep. Fisher Ames. The resistance will use “any mean necessary” to achieve their “holy mission,” Barr said, quoting Ames, adding that “so-called progressives treat politics as their religion.”

So, what’s the problem? Are Democrats upset that Barr is describing them to a T? The article features multiple tweets by multiple unhinged Democrats being unhinged, forgetting what happened January 20, 2009-January 19, 2017.

Former Southern District of New York federal prosecutor Mimi Rocah called Barr’s speech “outrageously inappropriate” for an attorney general. “You are the head of the DOJ for all Americans not just the ones in the Federalist Society. Please start acting like it,” she tweeted.

She’s never heard of Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch.

They don’t seem to know what either authoritarian nor Fascist mean. I’m still waiting for a Democrat to explain how Trump is either, considering he’s not signing all sorts of executive orders putting more government on The People, and, instead, removing lots and lots of rules and regulations.

Therapist collects people’s dreams about climate change

If you’ve had a dream about climate change, there’s a therapist in New York who’d love to hear about it.

“When I collect these dreams, I find them interesting because I see all of our psyches working on the same problem,” Martha Crawford says.

Early this year, Crawford started the Climate Dreams project. She invites people to report their dreams on her blog, and she scours Twitter for posts about dreams of climate impacts, such as storms, rising seas, and extinction.

These climate impacts are real, but the dreams they inspire are often fantastical. For example, people describe dreams of 300-foot waves, polar bears in their homes, and blizzards in the summer.

Crawford says many of the dreams reflect feelings of anxiety, fear, or mourning. But in others, people dream about solutions or convincing someone to care about global warming.

Too Late: Obama Cautions Democrats About Moving Too Far Left

First of all, this is rather a hoot considering how far Obama went Left, and tried to take Democrats with him. But, hey, perhaps he learned something from watching Democrats lose well over a 1,000 federal, state, county, and local seats during his presidency, much like he learned that it’s easy to make Pronouncements on the campaign trail about the War on Terror and very different when in office

Obama cautions Democratic hopefuls on tacking too far left

Former President Barack Obama on Friday warned the Democratic field of White House hopefuls not to veer too far to the left, a move he said would alienate many who would otherwise be open to voting for the party’s nominee next year.

Though Obama did not mention anyone by name, the message delivered before a room of Democratic donors in Washington was a clear word of caution about the candidacies of Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. The two have called for massive structural changes — and in Sanders’ case “revolution” — that would dramatically alter the role of government in people’s lives.

The centrist wing of the party has warned for months that a far-left nominee could alienate moderate Republicans and independent voters needed to oust President Donald Trump.

“The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it. And I think it’s important for us not to lose sight of that,” Obama said. “There are a lot of persuadable voters and there are a lot of Democrats out there who just want to see things make sense. They just don’t want to see crazy stuff. They want to see things a little more fair, they want to see things a little more just. And how we approach that I think will be important.”

How big is the centrist wing of the Democratic Party? No one really knows, since we mostly only hear from the extremists, and it seems that most who are elected are rather out there. Obama does have a point, but, A) it’s too late, and B) he’s surely telling them to simply lie. Candidates certainly have to appeal to the base to get the nomination in the primaries, and pivot during the general, but, what does one do when the campaign is so extreme during the primaries? Any pivot will be seen as disingenuous. It was one of the appeals of Trump. You saw who he was and that he meant what he said. He didn’t have to pivot, much like Reagan didn’t pivot (no, I’m not saying Trump is Reagan, but, Trump has done some excellent Conservative things, he talks about freedom, and he does fight back).

Still and all, it’s too late, they’ve all been exposed as being too far left. And you know Trump will not hold back on pointing this out.

Michael “Robust Debate” Mann Thinks St. Greta Is Actually A Climate Denier

Mann just made St. Greta’s list. This is rather a scorching hot take as we see different sects start to appear within the Cult of Climastrology. In all fairness to St. Greta, she at least sorta attempts to walk the talk

Does Greta Thunberg’s Lifestyle Equal Climate Denial? One Climate Scientist Seems To Suggest So.

The climate debate has taken a nasty turn. It is no longer a shouting match between climate affirmers and climate deniers. Now the finger-wagging is taking place among climate affirmers on the subject of personal responsibility for combating climate change.

There are two key actors in this unfolding saga. One embraces the importance of individual responsibility while the other derides it.

Greta Thunberg, the new climate icon, does not fly. She is a vegan and subscribes to the stop-shop philosophy, which means that “you don’t buy new things, consume new things, unless you absolutely have to.” In a recent interview, Greta said, “I want to walk the talk, and to practice as I preach. So that is what I’m trying to do.”

In contrast, Michael Mann, a prominent climate scientist, suggests that any talk of behavioral changes and personal responsibility reflects a soft form of climate denial. Although he did not mention Greta by name, he said: “First of all, there is an attempt being made by them to deflect attention away from finding policy solutions to global warming towards promoting individual behaviour changes that affect people’s diets, travel choices and other personal behaviour…. This approach is a softer form of denial and in many ways it is more pernicious.”

See, the thing is, St. Greta doesn’t seem to understand that this isn’t really about the climate, it’s just a convenient scapegoat to emplace Progressive (nice Fascism) policies, with the government implementing lots of taxes and fees, controlling the lives of citizens, removing choice and freedom, dictating to private entities, controlling the energy, the economy, and everything. We can also refer to this as Modern Socialism. They want to do away with capitalism. They want to tell you what you can buy, what you can eat, where you can live, and where you can travel. How many kids you can have. Where you work. How much money you can have. Man-caused climate change is their platform.

And St. Greta isn’t helping them with her “I’ll at least attempt to practice what I preach” lifestyle. Though, with all due respect to Mann, she does want those same Progressive policies, she just doesn’t know it. With her “how dare you!” yammering she’s pushing to have them installed.

Because these are massive, system-wide changes, individual-level actions to become climate virtuous will not suffice. We can buy electric cars, but without charging stations, they are quite useless. And a national network of charging stations can be provided only by the government.

Really? The national, and heck, international, network of gas stations were not provided by government. But this is the way climate cultists, part of the larger Modern Socialist movement, think. To them, government is always the answer. Right up to Government interferes with their own life, of course.

The bottom line is that when people take personal responsibility, they begin to have skin in the game. Climate action becomes personal and it makes them more politically assertive in demanding policy changes. Instead of pointing fingers at individuals who walk the climate talk, climate scientists should start doing it themselves.

Well, looks like Mann is Old News, as the article is taking the side of St. Greta. But, no worries: you know the majority of Warmists lauding St. Greta will not change their own lives to match their talking points.

California Governor Pardons Three Felon Immigrants In Attempt To Shield Them From Deportation

Now, in this case, all three are legal residents, though not U.S. citizens, as opposed to illegal aliens, but, the Democrat talking point about them only wanting the good illegal aliens, not the bad ones, should be kept in mind

California governor pardons 3 in bid to block deportations

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday announced that he is pardoning three men who separately committed crimes when they were each 19 years old and now are attempting to avoid being deported to Cambodia or Vietnam.

It’s the latest in a series of similar actions by the Democratic governor as the Trump administration ramps up efforts to deport those with criminal records, particularly to Southeast Asian nations.

California has fashioned itself as a “sanctuary state” for those in the country illegally, and in 2017 passed a law barring local and state agencies from cooperating with federal immigration authorities over those who have committed certain crimes, mostly misdemeanors.

So, what misdemeanors have these three fine, upstanding people committed?

Those pardoned include Saman Pho, 44, of Oakland, who was the subject of a state Capitol rally and petition drive earlier this month by immigrant rights groups. The group Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus said he was detained by immigration agents early last month.

He arrived in the United States at age 7, fleeing Cambodia with his family. He was convicted in 1995 of attempted murder after shooting a victim in the leg during a fight, served 12 years in prison and now has a U.S. citizen wife and four minor children.

The others are Santa Clara County residents Quyen Mai, 36, and Dat Vu, 38, both fighting deportation to Vietnam.

Mai was sentenced to nearly three years in prison after his conviction in 2005 of being an accessory following a shooting during a fight, according to the governor’s office. He is now executive director of the Vietnamese Voluntary Foundation, has several public service awards and started the first Vietnamese-American youth-run radio talk show. He entered the U.S. as a refugee when he was 11 years old.

Vu was convicted in 2000 of assaulting three men in two incidents and threatening a witness. He entered the U.S. at age 9 as a refugee from Vietnam and now has a U.S. citizen wife and two young children.

Those are some serious misdemeanors, eh? Oh, right, they’re all felonies. And Gavin is not pardoning them for being upstanding citizens since their release from prison, but, simply to stop deportations. Part of the condition of legal status, whether as a refugee, applying for citizenship, etc, is that they understand that if they commit crimes they get booted out. Pho was ordered deported under the Obama administration, as wee Mai and Vu.
