Straight to the meat: it wasn’t a bad movie. The didn’t ruin it like so many remakes, but, seriously, wait till it comes out on DVD. Just not worth going to the theater, even during a matinee. It was predictable, not particularly scary, not particularly gruesome, and, gotta say, the guy who plays Freddy, Jackie Earle Haley, is just not scary. Disturbing? A bit. Scary? Not in the least. He just does not inspire terror like Robert Englund did.
It’s rather slow and plodding, with a few bits of gore and some “OMG, he appears!” shock value done a gazillion times. The gore scenes aren’t even that interesting.

A few minor spoilers below the jump
Missing is one of the all time great scenes, the one were Johnny Depp’s character is swallowed into the bed, and then we get the fountain of blood. If you are going to do a remake, how can you not put that in?
Dumb blond moment: one of the characters featured early in the movie drives home in her convertible with the top down. She parks at home, top is still down, and then we hear the tweet-tweet of her locking the car/turning the alarm on. Did I mention the top was still down?
The dream scenes are predictable, including the whew, I woke up, oh, shit, I didn’t ones.
