Good News: AOC Offers Her Opinion On Hurricanes And ‘Climate Change’

Remember the days when we were told we were only supposed to listen to credentialed climate scientists? Not someone who fails to understand garbage disposals?

AOC blames climate change for recent hurricanes, says politicians are responsible

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Wednesday blamed climate change for the hurricanes impacting the southeastern U.S. recently, accusing her Capitol Hill colleagues of contributing to the crisis.

The Category 3 Hurricane Milton slammed into Florida Wednesday, killing at least four residents there and causing destruction in the Tampa Bay area. It follows the arrival of Hurricane Helene days earlier, which sparked emergency declarations in multiple states.

Such powerful storms, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez wrote, are the result of the planet’s warming climate.

“The hurricane ‘machine’ is climate change,” she wrote. “Cooler ocean temperatures slow hurricane development. As temps rise, more hurricanes grow. The Gulf of Mexico is a major location for warming water.”

The waters warm because it is that time of year in the Northern Hemisphere. What caused the massive 1938 hurricane that hit Long Island? What about during the slight cooling period from the 1950’s through mid-1970’s, which led the media to wonder if a new ice age was coming? How about the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900, which killed at least 8,000 (no one really knows the true impact)? Let’s not forget that AOC takes lots of fossil fueled flights between DC and NYC, as well as other areas.

My favorite part in Martz’s reply

What we can conclude from this analysis is that the formation of major hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico is not contingent on warming SSTs. The Gulf gets warm enough every year to sustain a major hurricane, even of category four or five status. So, higher SSTs aren’t going to add much additional effect, especially if you consider the fact tropical cyclone kinematics require far more environmental parameters to be favorable in order for a major hurricane to form (e.g., pre-existing disturbance, low deep-layer [200-850 hPa] vertical wind shear and no dry air / Saharan dust).

You are oversimplifying a very complex issue that you have little understanding about.

You may have been a good bartender, but you make a poor atmospheric scientist.

If anthropogenic climate change is so bad, why do so few Warmists, like AOC, give up their own use of fossil fuels?

Chris Martz is a weatherman-in-training (like a young Tony Watts) with a right-wing slant.

Like any biased pseudoscientist he slants the data.

    • Jl says:

Funny-if the graphs are correct, and there’s no evidence that they’re not, then the “weatherman in training” label is irrelevant. That kind of thing is usually brought up when the original data can’t be disputed. As in this case…

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

His graph left out the main hurricane season, mid-Aug to mid-Oct. Can you explain what the dots on the curves represent?

Clearly the sea surface temp (SST) in the Gulf is increasing with time.

As previously discussed SST is only one component of huricane formation and strength. As we saw with Milton the prevailng upper level winds took the sheared the hurricat top weakening it.

        • Jl says:

The dots represent, according to him, major hurricanes that formed during that time period. He said he used the few months earlier sea temps because as water takes so long to warm up or cool down, those would represent what the temps would be Aug-Nov. I can’t really tell if he used total hurricane numbers of the whole season or just during the earlier period- it’s not clear. If you press the “show more” link in the story, you’ll find a sea temp vs. hurricane energy graph in the comments below

    Doesn’t AOC drive a Tesla ?
The percent of electrified vehicles sold in USA including hybrids increases every year. Last year Americans bought 1 2 million electrified vehicles. Each year EV sales increase as they become better and cheaper. Batteries are now lasting longer than ICE engines. The changeover is slow by line the tides can not be stopped in 11 more years when ICE engines stop the, EV technology will be that much more mature.
Teach when will we see your personal evaluation of Hondas EV flagship, the Prologue ?
Have you even driven one yet ?

    • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

If EV’s are so good why must they be forced on us?

Do you drive an EV? Why don’t you give your personal evaluation?

My dad bought a top of the line Tesla two years ago. He fitted out his 5 car garage with super chargers figuring (because of all the phony hype) EV’s were the thing of the future. After two months of problems and headaches he sold it at a $25k loss. The chargers remain in his garage as a testament to his gullibility.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        L.G. Brandon,

You previously said your dad bought the top of the line Mercedes EV SUV and sold it at a loss. So why would he also buy a top of the line Tesla?

Or is this like the Mexican restaurant confusion?

  4. L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

The Mercedes was for him the Tesla for my mom. I wasn’t aware my families cars are so important to you that you’re keeping a list. But that’s cool. So let’s make sure you’re up to date. They have four cars, all gas, total value over 1M. I’m not going to tell you what they are because you’ll just get in my face. With you nothing is just between us you try and use everything against me. Dad also has two classics at his property a 1951 Jag XK120 and a 1952 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron. (I think it’s a 52)

I love cars as you know and now I have to go buy some. Veronica is already talking Jeep Wagoneer and Catalina a new Mazda. I’ll probably stick with another Vette.
What is the Mexican restaurant confusion?

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Good explanation. The Mex restaurant confusion was your uncle of cousin of somweone owned 20 or so Chipotle’s or similar but another commenter pointed out that was not possible, so you your mom explained the truth to you.
