“Scientist” Was Paralyzed By Climate Doom Or Something

This is what the hysteria brainwashing from the climate cult has wrought

This scientist was paralyzed by the threat of climate change. How she found hope

It’s hard to be optimistic about the world when you see the devastating effects of climate change all around you.

It’s even harder when you study environmental science and see, first hand, just how far behind we are in implementing the changes necessary to protect the planet.

Hannah Ritchie, a University of Oxford data and environmental scientist, says that kind of pessimism gets in the way of progress.

What’s more, she says, a doom-and-bloom mindset ignores the fact people have made the world a better place to live in, and continue to do so every day. The data, she says, bears this out.

When all you hear is doom and gloom, that a tiny increase in CO2 and the average global temperature since 1850 will end life as we know it, you tend to have a negative outlook on life. So, what to do?

Ritchie is the deputy editor and lead researcher of the online publication Our World In Data. In her new book, Not The End of the World, she calls for people to adopt an “urgent optimism” about climate change. The following is an excerpt from her conversation with As It Happens host Nil Köksal.

That’s right, make some money off of fellow doomsday cult members!

I am from a generation that has always grown up with climate change. I remember as … a young kid, already being quite anxious about climate change and the kind of future world I would inherit.

Then I went on to study environmental sciences at university, and I think from there it just got worse and worse. You know, you’re just bombarded with negative trend after negative trend.

Yup, doom. You know, my generation and the Boomers had to worry about nuclear war. Something real.

So I kind of make the case for what I call urgent optimism in the book. Or some people would call it impatient optimism. And that’s different from this kind of blind optimism, which is kind of sitting back and saying, “Oh, I’m sure the future will be fine.”

No, the future won’t be fine if we don’t get our act together and start working on solutions. But urgent optimism is slightly different. It’s acknowledging that there’s a massive problem there, but also having this level of optimism that there’s something that we can do to tackle it. So it’s more of an active response.

So, basically being optimistic about forcing everyone to comply with the tenants of the Cult of Climastrology. Funny how it’s always this way, eh?

    Mr Teach:

that a tiny increase in CO2 and the average global temperature since 1850 will end life as we know it

CO2 is the highest it’s been in about a million years, 50% higher than a century ago! There is no scientific basis to expect it to drop near-term. The temperature is most likely the highest in the Holocene and still increasing! Supervolcanoes, asteroid strikes, thermonuclear war can slow the warming!!! Good times.

Global warming is not a scam or hoax but is a problem and will not end life as we know it – that’s just more of Mr Teach’s exaggerative propagandizing. Has any scientist claimed that global warming in the foreseeable future will end life as we know it? Roaches, bacteria, algae and lizards have survived worse!!

It will change the way humans live and function. The distribution of flora and fauna is changing. Disease patterns are changing. Fresh water availability is changing. Global warming is already changing regional climates. We know, we know, the anti-science crowd argues “the world is always changing!”, so don’t worry, just bend over and take it. The facts argue that the Holocene has been a fairly stable climate for human civilization. The human population has increased from about 1.5 billion a century ago to 8 billion today. This is more people to be impacted by the changes. In 25 years the human population with be around 10 billion.

We have it easy in the US and Europe, but disturbances in South America, Africa, the Middle East and much of Asia will continue to intensify.

Buckle up kids, it’s gonna be a bumpy night.

  2. H says:

Teach used to say, said for decades, that the Earth was NOT warming. That the warmest year was 1998

But he still can’t tell us WHY he thinks it isn’t green house gases. Just that it “can’t be” being caused by CO2. Gotta be something else.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      H,

True dat. The Great Pause started in 1998 with that powerful El Nino. “The end of global warming,” they exulted!! Since the End of Global Warming started in 1998, our Earth has warmed another 0.5 °C (that’s almost 1 °F).

The denier mafia called global warming a scam, that the scientists had their collective thumbs on the scale and were sloppy in their placement of that difficult to read technology, the thermometer. Anyway when two “skeptics” Tony Watt and Professor Richard Muller of U of California proved the data were reliable, the anti-science groupies had to rebelieve their beliefs. But they did! Now they claim they never said it wasn’t warming, only that they hadn’t seen proof it was caused by CO2. Even more nower, some say sure, sure CO2 may be a component but the communists want us to live in caves and freeze.

Denier scientists have yet to come up with competitive alternative theory. Even Professor Spencer admits CO2 is the culprit.

      • Jl says:

As I’ve showed you Johnny boy, there are other theories. “Most likely highest in the Holocene”. No, it was warmer earlier in the Holocene. “Global warming is a problem”. So far, only in computer model projections. “The human population has increased to 8 billion”. Yes, right along with increasing CO2 levels, increased crop yields and increased life-spans. “The end of global warming”. No, I don’t recall anyone ever saying that. It was called the hiatus for that reason. That’s when the cult came up with about 50 reasons on where the heat went, the most popular being in the oceans. As far as the temp record, it has been shown that about 90% of the US sites don’t meet NOAA standards.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

          Jill,

What makes you believe the early Holocene was warmer than now?

Yes, global warming is a problem.

The heat didn’t go anywhere. The 1998 El Nino released a bolus of heat into the atmosphere causing a spike. The temperature continued to increase compared to the trough just after the El Nino. The “pause” or “hiatus” that the anti-warming cult pimped was an intentional artefact by starting at the height of a powerful El Nino.

    • david7134 says:

      John,
We have told you to give us evidence of increased warming specifically due to a trace gas in the atmosphere due to humans. You never have.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        CO2 absorbs long wave radiation,
        CO2 is increasing,
the increased CO2 has the same carbon isotope profile of fossil fuels,
the temperature of the lower atmosphere is increasing,
the temperature of the stratosphere is cooler (less heat escaping into the stratosphere).

    • Facts Matter says:

China started building enormous rice farms. I mean enormous. Rice farms are the number one emitter of Methane across the planet.

Brazil and other countries started cutting down the tropical rainforests that sink CO2. Foilage(CO2 sinks) additionally has been removed to make room for more cities in growing nations.

City after city has grown and grown and grown creating massive heat plumes all across the world.

Farming began about 10,000 years ago. Farming is a massive source of Co2 release into the atmosphere. Why? Because after the crops are picked they are tilled back into the soil releasing massive amounts of co2 that they stored while growing. This is repeated sometimes 3x’s per year depending on the crops.

Super El Nino’s are a massive source of WATER VAPOR.(Hello California?) Water Vapor is the primary reason Earth is a habitable place for humans and mammals.

From UC DAVIS….an institution of higher awareness for tree huggers……..Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with a warming potential more than 28 times that of carbon dioxide (CO2). But when it comes to livestock and climate change, there are many other characteristics that set biogenic methane (methane from cattle) apart from CO2. Here are an important four:

It stays in our atmosphere for about 12 years
It’s derived from atmospheric carbon, such as CO2
It’s part of the biogenic carbon cycle
It eventually returns to the atmosphere as CO2, making it recycled carbon

what is not spoken of is that methane from farming and rice paddies all across China and Asia emit 40x more methane than cows and pigs farting. Additionally, cows and pigs ingest a large source of CO2 emitting food which reduces the CO2 footprint in the air.

Complicated? Of course, it’s complicated, but the AGW people do not want you to understand how complicated Methane and CO2 is. They need to narrow it down to a simple thesis.

      CO2………..BAD.
      Methane…….BAD.
      Fossil fuels..BAD
      AUTOS………BAD
      COWS……….BAD
      FARMING…….BAD
      People……..BAD….

“Denier scientists have yet to come up with an alternate theory”. First, what are they “denying”? And an alternate theory doesn’t have to be produced until the cult’s theory has been verified. As said many times, it’s like a criminal trial. The defense doesn’t have to prove who committed the homicide, they just have to show it wasn’t their client. So for Johnny and J that apparently have very short memories, here again is just one unfalsified alternate theory.

  4. Jl says:

And along the same lines with the one above. But..3..2….1 till Johnny or J say “there are no alternate theories!”

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      Jill,

Ms Phin speculates but never publishes her ideas where actual experts can analyze her “data”. There is one climate scientist in her comments section that takes her to task but essentially she says he thinks on a plane so much below her. She found it hard to explain her own recalculated data in the 06/24 post.

  5. Doug says:

Read the b l eeeee, if you realllly want the truth about well everything…….

  6. Jl says:

“Global warming is a problem”. Gee, thanks for all the accompanying data.

  7. Jl says:

“The pause was caused by starting at the height of El Niño. So natural events outweigh man made ones? No one disputed it started at the height of El Niño, just that it stopped warming, which it did. “The heat didn’t go anywhere”. Really? Then why all the “heat went in the oceans” explanations?

  8. Jl says:

“Speculates but never publishes”. The data is published right there in the article. The first article data comes from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, the second from CERES, which is a project under NASA. Anyone can download the same data, and she provides the computer code to do it. You’re making up excuses
