Democrats Try To Reclaim “Parents’ Rights” In Education Or Something

When was the last time Democrats supported parental rights? How many decades ago? How do Democrats regain parental rights as an issue when they keep saying that the government owns the kids?

How do they regain parental rights as an issue when they do not want parents anywhere schools. when they do not want to tell parents what the curriculum is, when they tell kids to not tell their parents what happens in schools, when they help kids pretend to be the other gender, and so forth?

Liberals try to reclaim ‘parents’ rights’ from conservatives in education

In the raging culture wars, conservative parents jumped out first with a robust agenda built around the defense of “parents’ rights.”

It’s not really an agenda. It’s simply Conservatives caring about their children and wanting involvement, and there are plenty of average Democrats who feel the same, namely that the government doesn’t own the kids.

Now, seeking to apply some countervailing pressure, groups are coalescing on the left to resist conservative efforts to remove books from schools, end student LGBTQ clubs and restrict classroom discussions of race and gender. Experts and advocates say the progressives — some forming groups nationally and others in states and local communities — increasingly are in a strong position to push back.

Liberal groups with names such as “Stop Moms for Liberty” are campaigning for like-minded school board candidates, lobbying legislators and training parents to show up at school board meetings. They host Zooms and Facebook pages where parents can commiserate and strategize.

How exactly is the reclaiming parental rights as an issue?

Let me summarize: Democrats are essentially attempting to win local elections and train leftist moms to fight back

In the meantime, many groups are working to train like-minded parents to attend and speak at school board meetings, something conservative groups have been doing since the height of the pandemic. To face them, Red, Wine and Blue has put more than 11,000 people through one-hour “troublemaker trainings.”

This spring in North Carolina, a group called HEAL Together held its first two sessions teaching parents to speak at school board meetings and track school board activity. They drew a combined 160 people from 32 out of the state’s 100 counties, and another 160 are registered for a training this week. They hope to train at least two people from each county this year.

And how is this parental rights, when they’re training them to empower government to keep parents out of everything educations?

The organization also promotes a pledge asking political candidates and elected officials to protect “our public schools, our children, and our country” by defending the “civil rights of [everyone] regardless of race, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or anything else.”

In other words, they really are just pushing the same old same old

A year-old group with the unsubtle name Stop Moms for Liberty encourages its members to review school board agendas and track board votes. When they find decisions they believe will prove unpopular or controversial, they post on social media, contact reporters and notify advocates such as the American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP, said founder Liz Mikitarian. The group also provides resources for members interested in running for school board themselves. And it hopes to send 50 to 60 people to protest the upcoming Moms for Liberty gathering in Philadelphia.

They’re trying to stop Moms For Liberty, a group pushing parental rights in education. Was the headline of the piece supposed to be a joke?

Translation: the left have finally realized that parents don’t believe that heir kids belong to the state.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

And remember when parents forced left-handed kids to be right-handed? Good times.

Remember “spare the rod, spoil the child”?

Remember “children should be seen, not heard”?

In 1900, some 20% of children 10-15 yrs worked outside the home.

The golf links lie so near the mill,
      That almost every day,
The laboring children can look out,
And see the men at play.

      —Sarah N. Cleghorn

Remember measles outbreaks when lib “Moms For Disease” refused to get their children vaccinated?

Remember when women didn’t have access to FSH or Elonva and in vitro fertilization?

If a tomboy is happy being a tomboy, what’s the problem? On the other hand, if a child suffers from severe gender dysmorphia, under the care and advice of specialists and their parents, they may undergo puberty delaying hormone treatment.

For transgender and gender-diverse youth who have gender dysphoria, delaying puberty might:

      Improve mental well-being.
      Ease depression and anxiety.
      Improve social interactions with others.
Lower the need for future surgeries.
Ease thoughts or actions of self-harm.

Mr Dana implies that parents are forcing puberty blockers (gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues) on unwilling kids.

Contrary to type, Mr Dana wants the state to step in and dictate this highly personal decision between a child, parents and medical specialists.

From the 6th through 11th grades, ages 12-17, 1965-1970, I “worked outside the home”, delivering newspapers in Mt Sterling, Kentucky. Somehow, I don’t think that harmed me.

No doubt some 10 yr olds in 1900 were selling newspapers (see Disney movie, Newsies), but many were working in factories. I also delivered papers, and as a 15 year old was a dishwasher for a national restaurant chain where I was sexually harassed by the female assistant manager! A friend sliced off a finger tip while using the meat slicer (David H. may have been 16, though).

I remember when teachers forced left-handed students to use their right hands.

It makes no difference whether the kids are willing or unwilling; they cannot give informed consent. And this isn’t true gender dysphoria, which generally appears around puberty. This is parents with Munchausen Syndrome mutilating even younger children because it has become trendy to have a trans kid. And a lot of the public teachers are pedos and groomers, and are enabling and pushing it as well.

I’d rather the State didn’t have to pass laws to prevent people from mutilating children, but apparently we need to. Just like we don’t allow children to drive, buy firearms, get tattoos, drink alcohol … even though some parents would allow it.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

A lot of ministers, preachers, priests and nuns are pedos and groomers.

Do you have evidence that parents are mutilating pre-puberty children?? Didn’t think so.

  2. ruralcounsel says:

Reading the Biden quote, and all I can think of is that he was a terrible parent … he sexually traumatized his young daughter (for which he should have been imprisoned), and one of his sons turned into a drug addict criminal. The only kid he had that he apparently didn’t screw up is the one who died of cancer. Of course, he isn’t around to tell us anything, so who knows. He may have just been the more resiliant one.

  3. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mr Teach: Let me summarize: Democrats are essentially attempting to win local elections and train leftist moms to fight back

Good. For decades Dems have conceded local control to the Republican machine. Republicans have a “long game” whereby a sizable minority can maintain power by whatever means necessary, including the “deconstruction” of American institutions – elections, education, medicine, science, the military, free press, justice… Why have elections if the Republicans can persuade Americans that elections are “fixed”? American institutions do not support minority control.

  4. Elwood P. Dowd says:

Mr Teach: They’re trying to stop Moms For Liberty, a group pushing parental rights in education.

MFL is an astroturf Republican group intent on destabilizing if not destroying public education. The “Moms” protested school mask mandates, any mention of past racial discrimination, including texts featuring Martin Luther King Jr., Ruby Bridges, civil rights movement protests, and school segregation. They want to ban any mention of non-hetero persons. “Moms” objected to descriptions of violence during civil rights protests without counterbalancing with instruction on the good the police and fire fighters do. They objected to discussion of Galileo’s heliocentric theory and his persecution by the Church without discussion of the good the Church did. The “Moms” have been instrumental in having books removed from school libraries to be replaced with “conservative” books.

  5. James Lewis says:

    Dear Elwood”

“They objected to discussion of Galileo’s heliocentric theory and his persecution by the Church without discussion of the good the Church did.”

Well, we wouldn’t want a balanced discussion, would we???https://www.thepiratescove.us/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_sad.gif
