Green Socialist Planning Can Save Us From ‘Climate Crisis’

The Capitalist Market Can’t Solve the Climate Crisis — but Green Socialist Planning Can

Governments and central banks are increasingly presenting green or sustainable finance as the solution to the climate crisis. This approach claims that we can address a problem caused by the capitalist market by relying on that very same market. It exploits pervasive feelings of anxiety about climate change to lead us toward a new frontier of capital accumulation, where complex financial instruments will determine how we realize our environmental goals.

Yet there is another side to green finance that has not received the attention it deserves, and which has major implications for the Left. The investment scenarios designed to facilitate this project are a form of unacknowledged economic planning, whose advocates still promote the virtues of the market in theory while recognizing its limitations in practice.

In fact, those scenarios ultimately derive from the socialist calculation debate of the early twentieth century, which sought to lay the intellectual foundations of an alternative to capitalism. Technology has finally caught up with those who argued that computerized data collection and processing could liberate us from dependency on the market as a calculating tool.

So far, however, this version of planning is being used to prop up the existing social order rather than to construct a new one. We need to bring it under democratic control so that we can impose a very different set of priorities.

That’s Modern Socialist speak for “government being heavily involved in all aspects of the economy, up to and including owning the means of production.” It means them controlling your company, controlling what the government allows you to purchase, where you can go, what you can do. It’s a very long piece, but, you get the idea, and, in case you weren’t aware, Jacobin Magazine is a hyper-leftist, uber-socialist magazine, which, weirdly, relies on capitalist things like subscribing monthly, and they have their own store! You can pay, using the capitalist system, for things like tote bags, t-shirts, a book called The Socialist Manifesto, and, even a great ball cap!

The press and the global warming crowd deliberately suppress the fact that ANTARCTICA has had record cold, snow and ice accumulation for decades. Even the last few years, ANTARCTICA cold, snow and ice have hit record numbers.

The number of catastrophic hurricanes and tornadoes has dwindled the last couple of decades.

The oceans have not risen appreciably other than the normal waxing and waning of ice melt and evaporation cycles. If you try to google it, the first few pages will be pro global warming but when you drill down to the more reputable “scientific” sites it says no global warming. Also droughts, cold snaps, and weather extremes are the rule all throughout recorded history. There are records clear back to the 1400’s verifying this fact. One has to dig for this data because the political and globalists agenda has big-tech, the leftist media, et al working at sequestering real facts as the “Brown Shirts” did for Hitler. Most folks don’t even go past the first page and these hyena Globalists at google know this.

Lastly, look up the sun-spot cycle which is an eleven year cycle. The weather patterns on earth are affected profoundly by this cycle.

They try to explain it away with all kinds of mental gymnastics but it doesn’t pass the smell test. Funny one never hears of this, but then again suppression of reality by ideologues is commonplace.

The so-called doomed Great Barrier Reef is thriving and growing.

Only socialism can save the earth. Might be true since “warming” is caused by humans and socialism reduces the number of humans.

A friend at work once told me that I was the only guy he knew who was balding who didn’t wear a hat. It’s not like I have to chase girls anymore; I’ve been married for 43 years, 5 months and one day, and Elaine has pretty well figured out what I look like without a hat. So, no, I won’t be supporting the work of Jacobin by buying one of their baseball caps.

  4. I followed the link to the Jacobin store, to make sure there wasn’t something missing from the screencap — pun most definitely intended — and while there was, even though the Jacobins tell us it was “union made”, there is nothing that says it was made in America. Jacobin is an American magazine, so one would have expected them to specify that, if the cap was made in the United States by unionized American workers.

Love these guys-always starting discussions with false premises-a “climate crisis”.
Why not prove there’s a crisis first? They can’t

Socialist Planning has been a massive failure every time it’s been tried.

So naturally, THIS time it’ll work!
