Crime Is Slamming NYC And Chicago

The NY Daily News, which has supported defunding the police, no cost bail, and all the other left wing soft on criminals policies, seems surprised

Violent, unprovoked attacks have New Yorkers on edge: ‘There is something profoundly wrong’

surprise surprise surpriseThey are the buzzwords of New York City crime circa 2022: Random and unprovoked.

A chilling spate of recent incidents involving innocent victims runs the gamut from a woman savagely beaten inside a Queens subway station to a 17-year-old Brooklyn girl killed by a stray bullet to a Mexican immigrant nearly killed by a sucker-punch outside a Manhattan restaurant.

The latest terrifying attack took the life of a veteran city EMS lieutenant on her way to grab lunch in Astoria this past Thursday, with a schizophrenic stranger knocking her to the sidewalk before stabbing her 20 times for no apparent reason.

“There’s something profoundly wrong with New York,” said Mary Hassler, 66, an Astoria resident and cosmetics sales person. “The number of these attacks are growing. There seems to be more and more all the time.

Hey, NYC residents voted for this when they voted in a Leftist mayor, leftist city council, and leftist District Attorney. They’re literally getting what they voted for. If you would have asked them if they supported defunding, no cash bail, etc, a few years ago they would have said “yes!”

But the department reports an uptick so far this year in 911 calls involving emotionally disturbed people. Through Sept. 29, police cited an 8% hike with the latest numbers at 131,199 — roughly 500 per day, up from 128,488 over the same stretch of 2021.

And in a year when the NYPD reported a nearly 12% drop in homicides, there was also a citywide 37% jump in robberies and a 43% increase in grand larceny as New Yorkers expressed their fears about the ongoing situation.

Like in California, criminals feel emboldened to do crime. And what does a city council member recommend?

I love the first section, where, under Direct, it’s recommended you “repeat the same statements until the person causing harm corrects their behavior or exits.” Right, right, that’s totally feasible. Of course, they could be exiting because they’ve already filled their bag with goods and it’s time to go.

And in Chicago

Defund the police push, liberal policies driving Chicago business exodus, hurting poor the most: experts

Several experts reacted to the CEO of McDonald’s suggesting his company could be the next to flee Chicago’s crime wave by telling Fox News Digital that progressive policies and defund the police rhetoric have created a dangerous situation that will cause even more businesses to flee and most negatively impact the most vulnerable communities in the city.

In a mid-September speech, McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said Chicago is a “city in crisis” and that rising crime has made it more difficult to recruit employees to the company’s downtown West Loop headquarters with many scared to return to in-person work after the pandemic due to safety concerns. (snip)

Crime in Chicago, which has skyrocketed since the Black Lives Matter riots and defund the police rhetoric that evolved from the death of George Floyd in 2020, has been cited by other businesses as the reason to pack up and leave. Heritage Foundation senior research fellow in the Center for Health and Welfare Policy Robert Moffit told Fox News Digital that the exodus leaves lower income workers to fend for themselves in a city where police morale and staffing has plummeted due in part to defund the police rhetoric.

Again, the residents of Chicago advocated for this. They voted fro uber-left wing nuts. Now they’re getting what they asked for and are upset. Too be perfectly honest, I have no sympathy. I do, though, not want them to leave and come to the safer non-loony leftist areas. Stay and reap the rewards, moonbats.

Slight correction: in New York City, each of the five boroughs is a separate county, with separate District Attorneys. Alvin Bragg, the George Soros-sponsored ‘progressive’ is district attorney in New York County (Manhattan), while Kings (Brooklyn), Queens, Bronx, and Richmond (Staten Island) counties have separate DAs.

Foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia is experiencing the same thing, just worse. Carjackings topped 1,000 just before the end of September, while the yearly record was 874 set in 2021. Armed robberies and rapes are also up substantially.

As bad as murder is in Philly — far worse than in Chicago or New York — it’s actually slightly down from the same day in record-shattering 2021, though still on pace to finish between 540 and 550 homicides, far surpassing the 500 murders in second-place 1990.

2020 is in third place with 499.

When I checked the statistics on January 2, 2021, the Philadelphia Police Department reported 502 homicides in 2020, but it was quickly corrected to 499. I don’t know: did three people recover from death in 2020, was it a simple error, throwing New Year’s Day numbers in with 2020’s, or did the Powers That Be move three 2020 homicides into 2021, just so the record wouldn’t be broken, and Mayor Jim Kenney, District Attorney Larry Krasner, and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw wouldn’t look quite so bad?

It’s easy to understand why connies are terrified of big cities.

The leftist from St Louis wrote:

Pennsylvania’s firearms control laws are pretty much uniform across the Commonwealth; state law prohibits municipalities from imposing restrictions which are stricter than those provided for under state law. In 2020, there were 1,009 murders in the Keystone State, 499, or 49.45%, of which occurred in Philadelphia. According to the 2020 Census, Pennsylvania’s population was 13,002,700 while Philadelphia’s alone was 1,603,797, just 12.33% of Pennsylvania’s totals.

It got worse last year: with 562 homicides in Philly, out of 1027 total for Pennsylvania, 54.72% of all homicides in the Keystone State occurred in Philadelphia. Allegheny County, where Pittsburgh is located, was second, with 123 killings, 11.98% of the state’s total, but only 9.52% of Pennsylvania’s population. The other 65 counties, with 78.11% of the state’s total population, had 33.30% of total murders.

Yeah, big cities are murder central in the United States, so it only makes sense that sensible people might avoid them.

But, you’re a wise and smart guy: perhaps you can tell us why Philadelphia and other large cities are so deadly. What is it about Philadelphia that you can explain, in a calm, liberal manner, which has led to such a high death rate?

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Why do cities like St Louis, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Chicago have such high homicide rates? It’s drug trade turf wars, of course. Parts of these cities have become war zones of poverty, frustration, rage and drugs.

Why do you think these predominantly black areas are so violent and deadly?

Why are there so many robberies, assaults and rapes in rural areas?

The lowest violent crime rates are in Maine (lowest), NH, Vermont, CT, NJ, VA, RI, WY, ID, Hawaii. And only Maine and NH have lower rates than Puerto Rico!

Good thing the FBI are taking on White Supremacy and “anti-democratic” forces. Priorities.

  4. The Liberal but not libertarian Elwood P. Dowd says:

Through 2020, Alaska is the US state with the highest violent crime* rate. Then New Mexico, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, South Carolina, South Dakota, Arizona, Michigan, Montana…

There has been an uptick the past couple of years.

By the way, the violent crime rate was higher in the late 80s, early 90s, and had been dropping.

*Violent crime = murder/manslaughter, robbery, rape, aggravated assault

  5. L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

How do you calculate violent crime rates? Is that per capita (a typical ruse) or gross numbers or averages?

What would cause Alaska to have such? What causes that in Alaska that is not a factor in say Idaho? I mean other than Alaska is 13% black and Idaho less than 1% black. Or has that no effect?

    • UnkleC says:

LGB, Elwood probably gets his numbers from NPR or Wiki and uses Elwood Math to deduce the results. The generally accepted standard for crime comparison is ‘crimes per 100,000 of population’ as used by the FBI. You can get these #s with a simple Google search for FBI crime stats, lots of info returned.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Yes, my source was the FBI ‘violent crimes per 100,000 population’. Alaska #1, just as I said. If you had searched as you claimed you’d know that. But we know the last things connies trusts are facts! Make-believe is unlimited!!

Apology accepted. Go and sin no more, my child.

We know, we know… It looks bad when the violent crime rate is higher in all those red states. But those are the facts.

Two questions begging to be answered:

Do you trust the Deep State FBI??

And do you consider the use of data normalized to population a ‘ruse’ as your low-information friends do?

        • drowningpuppies says:

Well the city of St.Louis has #1 murder rate in the country.
Doubt skin color has anything to do with it.

Wonder if Rimjob capable of acknowledging that fact.

          Bwaha! Lolgf

          • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

Doubt skin color has anything to do with it.

Why? Is there evidence that blacks in St. Louis have a low crime rate? Is St. Louis the only leftist run city that has no black on black or black on everyone else crime? That would make St. Louis a stand out city among red cities since they are ALL sewers. It’s thee leftist democommie way.

I’m sure dowd doesn’t live in a black neighborhood.

          • drowningpuppies says:

Doubt skin color has anything to do with it.

Probably should’ve added a /sarc tag to that.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      Loopie Gauche, aka the MAGAt,

By the way, Alaska’s population is 3.2% Black.

Do you believe those Black men make Alaska the most violent state in America?

      • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

BTW my source claimed less than 1%. But the difference is within the margin of error so who the fuk cares. It’s very low regardless or can’t you understand that? I just Googled it again and got 3.6%. Go figure.

I don’t know what to think about it. You are the guy who brought up Alaska having the highest crime rate all I’m doing is asking you you to explain yourself. Why are you getting triggered? Why are you getting defensive?

There must be a reason a remote and sparsely populated area like Alaska would have the lowest not highest crime rate. I don’t know but I figure the guy who brought up the subject should know the answer. You don’t. Why?

        MAGA you retard.

        • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

That should be “remote and sparsely populated area like Alaska would have the highest not lowest crime rate.” I figured I best fix it before the resident retard jumps on me seeing I twisted the words up.

          MAGA, just for dowd.

        • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Loosie Goosie aka MAGAt the Retard: Alaska is 13% black

You said Alaska was 13% Black, implying that’s the source of Alaska’s highest violent crime rate. Facts Matter. Or are you saying that you mistyped?

Alaska has the highest violent crime rate of all the states. Most of the rest of the top ten are red states. 2.New Mexico (blue), 3.Tennessee (red), 4.Arkansas (red), 5.Louisiana (red), 6.Missouri (red), 7.South Carolina (red), 8.South Dakota (red), 9.Arizona (purple), 10.Michigan (blue). These are facts and facts matter. Five of those states are in the top ten of poverty, too (NM, TN, AR, LA, SC). Since poor people are more likely to be victims of violent crime, maybe poor neighborhoods represent a ‘target-rich’ environment.

          from that paper:

? Poor persons living in urban areas (43.9 per 1,000) had violent victimization rates similar to poor persons living in
          rural areas (38.8 per 1,000).

  6. Earle says:

Much of Alaska’s violent crime occurs in small villages where there little hope law enforcement, and much substance abuse and despair.

Hopefully this is a good link:

    • L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! says:

Do you mean in Indian villages? Among tribes of Indians.

You don’t really expect me to read 486 pages of info and data for a simple question, do you?

      • Earle says:

No, I mean small communities that have no road access. Some of those villages have a high proportion of Alaska Native population, and some don’t. The underlying problems they have are the same regardless: these small communities are slowly dying and the people who live there have less and less opportunity for gainful employment. But there always seems to be a way to destroy yourself with booze or drugs, and the resulting crime statistics come as no surprise.

And I expect you to be able to do a little heavy lifting yourself and read the data if you want to draw a conclusion.

  7. Earle says:

So what’s Elwood’s response to the fact that Chicago murder rate is approximately three times higher than that of the most violent state in the nation?

    • Jl says:

The reason is black on black crime, but the libs will say “white supremacy!”

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Cities like Chicago are where the people live. Most of the murders occur in the inner city, black areas where drug wars dominate.

Why do you think these murders occur?
