French bishops urge ‘integral ecology’ in response to climate change

France’s Catholic bishops have stepped up calls for an “integral ecology” to protect the environment while also warning citizens not to “expect a savior or messiah” after the first round of presidential elections April 10.

“Our Western societies are aware their remarkable development has taken place at the cost of other world regions — that their race forward in growth has been possible only by polluting or destroying other spaces,” Archbishop Éric de Moulins-Beaufort of Reims, France, president of the French bishops’ conference, said April 8 at the close of the bishops’ plenary meeting in Lourdes.

“We must dare to denounce the structures of sin, and proclaim that other ways of human living are possible. … We are not condemned to behave like predators, sowing death and desolation on the earth,” the archbishop said.

His appeal came as French voters prepared for the first round of the presidential election April 10, in which President Emmanuel Macron faces a strong challenge from far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

Interesting. They’re taking the side of Big Government, rather than freedom, personal choice, and not being forced to follow the dictates of a doomsday cult

Archbishop Moulins-Beaufort said a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released April 4 highlights the need for “drastic change in modes of consumption, production, transport and heating.” (snip)

“The love of Christ urges us to be close to distant brothers and sisters who are the first to suffer the impact of climate change, to be close to all forms of life, rejoicing in our interdependence,” said the archbishop, who was reelected for a second term during the plenary.

Of course, they now want to drag Jesus into their cult

In fact, all major religions understand the dangers of global warming – as do governments, universities, corporations, media, scientific organizations etc. In fact, only far-rightists still deny that global warming is a threat.

Anyway, Jesus never mentioned fossil fuels, carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases, so global warming must be a scam/hoax.

Another reason why it seems that ultra-conservative Christians discredit global warming is because, even if it were a real issue needing solutions, they hold the position that when Jesus comes back, there’s going to be a new heaven and a new Earth! Thus, there’s no consequences for what happens here in the present. I often hear fellow Christians uttering, “this is not our home,” as if to calm themselves. So, we don’t need to worry about the earth if it’s not our real home or if Jesus is coming back soon. We can destroy it all day long, God’s just going to make it all new again!

Wonder what Muslims think about the “dangers” of “global warming”?

ShitLips is just too stupid for his own good!

Islamic leaders called on the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims to play an active role in combatting climate change and have urged governments to conclude an effective universal climate change agreement.

Faith leaders, senior international development policy makers, academics and other experts made the call in an Islamic Declaration on Climate adopted at an International Islamic Climate Change Symposium in Istanbul.

Fundamentalist Muslims like fundamentalist Christians may have differing views from their more moderate counterparts.

But unlike right-wing christians, Muslims tend to understand science.

At an international conference on global warming an Islamic scholar gave some Qur’anic insight into the causes and effects of global warming thus:

“One of the issues that give the world a concern currently is global warming. Experts around the world have been warning about this for decades and have been urging governments to act faster in slowing down the rate of global warming. They warn that there is a 75% risk that global temperatures will rise a further two to three degrees in the next 50 years. The consequence of this would be dramatic. In fact a rise of just one degree would melt the Greenland ice sheet and drown the Maldives, but a three degree increase would kill the Amazon rainforest, wipe out nearly half of all species facing extinction and wreak havoc with crop yields due to weather changes”.

    • Jl says:

It makes sense, because it is a religion. Believing in something without any proof..

      • Elwood P. dOwd says:

Religions have a supernatural basis, and require zero evidence to support their beliefs.

Obviously, the theory of CO2-dependent global warming has a great deal of supporting evidence. Much more so than the beliefs in gods, demons, angels, miracles, heavens and hells. But then religious beliefs can not be falsified since the depend not on evidence at all.

        • david7134 says:

          jeff,
Climate change religion is not a theory, try hypothesis. There is more data to support any religion than what you have presented as to CO2 and climate change. Thus, Climate change is a religion or better yet, myth.

Teach has now become an expert in Theology.
Next he will in fact be able to tell us exactly how many angels can stand on the head of a pin
Teach seems to have lost his own faith in his climate change denier demi gods of Lord Monckton and Roy Spenser of UALH. In Spensers own blog of March 3 2022 he now says that “the warming has been mostly human-caused”. He had previously on Fox TV stated it is almost all human-caused.
Teach, will you now declare Spenser to be a HERETIC! EXCOMUNICADO!! from the true church of climate change deniers?

    • drowningpuppies says:

Dr. Spencer didn’t exactly say that, Johnnie.

    • James Lewis says:

      What he wrote/said:

“I repeat: NONE of the natural, global-average energy flows in the climate system are known to better than about 5-10 Watts per sq. meter…compared to the ocean warming-based imbalance of 1 Watt per sq. meter.

What this means is that recent warming could be mostly natural…and we would never know it.

But, climate scientists simply assume that the climate system has been in perfect, long-term harmonious balance, if not for humans. This is a pervasive, quasi-religious assumption of the Earth science community for as long as I can remember.”

So the answer is, maybe it is or maybe it isn’t.

But let’s destroy western civilization to make a bunch of babbling idiots feel good.

    • Jl says:

      Johnny, Johnny….

      • Elwood P. dOwd says:

        Dr Spencer typed:

As a preface, I will admit, given the lack of evidence to the contrary, I still provisionally side with the view that warming has been mostly human-caused (and this says nothing about whether the level of human-caused warming is in any way alarming).

That’s somewhat, a little bit weasily, right?

He’s saying there is no evidence to the contrary to dissuade him from the conclusion that warming is mostly man-made. To his credit that is spoken like an actual scientist. A theory is provisionally accepted so long as the accumulated evidence is not negated by evidence to the contrary. He’s saying there is no contrary evidence (so he either doesn’t read or doesn’t believe the No Tricks Zone!). Even a contrarian like Dr Spencer (guilty of manipulating data) eventually gets overrun by the evidence.

        • drowningpuppies says:

The qualifier the accusatory Rimjob likes to leave out because he’s dishonest.

But, climate scientists simply assume that the climate system has been in perfect, long-term harmonious balance, if not for humans. This is a pervasive, quasi-religious assumption of the Earth science community for as long as I can remember.

But this position is largely an anthropocentric statement of faith.

          That doesn’t make it wrong. It’s just…uncertain.

  3. The Catholic hierarchy are pretty much what Americans would define as political liberals on every subject but abortion and sex. His Holiness the Pope favors open borders, free immigration, an expansive welfare state, and doesn’t like capitalism very much at all.

Sadly, far too many bishops, including the Most Reverend John Stowe, Bishop of Lexington, and practically the entire hierarchy in Germany, have decided to ignore the very explicit words of the Bible and try to approve homosexual relationships.

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI was gracious enough to allow individual parishes to celebrate the Tridentine Mass, the traditional Latin Mass of 1962 and before. There aren’t that many parishes doing so, at least in part because so few priests today are versed in it, but there were some, and the demand is there; Tridentine Mass services have seen some real growth.

However Pope Francis doesn’t like the Latin Mass, and issued instructions which greatly restrict its use; the bishop of each diocese must approve, and other restrictions were added.

More, the Vatican banned ‘private’ Masses in the side altars in St Peters. Many tourists wanted to attend Mass at the Vatican, and these ‘private’ Masses were one way to do so. The one thing I will never understand is why any priest, any bishop, or any pope would want to see fewer Masses celebrated, or fewer Catholics in the pews, but that’s what the current Bishop of Rome has done.

    • Elwood P. dOwd says:

But doesn’t Jesus seem like a liberal?

      • Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

No, he doesn’t. Jesus instructed us to obey the laws of God, and those laws are pretty strict.

        • The catholic but not Catholic Elwood P. dOwd says:

          Laws of god? LOL.

You shall not charge interest on loans to another Israelite, interest on money, interest on provisions, interest on anything that is lent. On loans to a foreigner you may charge interest, but on loans to another Israelite you may not charge interest, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all your undertakings in the land that you are about to enter and possess.(Deuteronomy 23:19-20)

Why do so-called christians pick and choose “laws”?

          • The catholic but not Catholic Elwood P. dOwd says:

If a Muslim comes here to spew BS as you do, then yes, Ms ShitLips. But the U.S. is a nation dominated by christianists, not Muslims. And fundamental chrisitanists wish to turn their beliefs into our law.

Almost all religions are based on supernatural beings, events, magic and places.

We get it. Looking down the gaping maw of reality is daunting! People delude themselves into believing they’ll exist forever. But if you want a heaven, work to create it here. It’s all you got.

If fundamentalists eschew turning their beliefs into law they can coexist peacefully with reasonable people.

ShitLips, you same like a person who supports Mx DonJon tRump. Tell us, has he/she violated any of your god’s laws?

dOwd: “Mx L.G.Brandon!, L.G.Brandon! posits that the Jewish/chrisitian book only applies to ancient Israelites. Fair enough.”

Your lame attempt at insulting me and Christianity only shows the shallowness of your soul. As you now famous schvartze once stated one cannot comment on a topic unless it’s an expert on it and you are not. You’re not even a member just an outside observer of little or no import.

Anyway, I “posited” no such thing. What I posited was that the quote you chose to “prove” all Christians are rotten bad people was taken out of context and you applied it incorrectly. That was OT and was referring only to Israelites entering the Promised Land.

You seem to think theology and religion require “proof”. They don’t. They only require faith which you obviously do no possess. Law requires proof as does science but religion like love or empathy or many other unseen yet observably true does not. We can understand how a person who believes in the warped politics of communism would have no understanding of the concept of a higher being outside the realm of our natural universe. Your mind is closed and your lack of faith is just one more evidence of that. Plus, the mere belief in a political ideology that condones baby killing, oppression and has murdered millions would understandably not be receptive to the Message of Love which the belief in God requires.

Christians aren’t perfect they are just forgiven. You are not.
