Pentagon Deploying National Guard To Help With “Traffic Control” For Trucker Convoy

They’re totally being deployed to help out, not intimidate Citizens engaged in Constitutionally protected protest, speech, and petitioning for redress of grievance, right? Hey, you never know, maybe they will be a buffer between the violent leftists who will come to protest the protesters

National Guard to help DC control traffic for truck convoys

The Pentagon has approved the deployment of 700 unarmed National Guard troops to the nation’s capital as it prepares for trucker convoys that are planning protests against pandemic restrictions beginning next week.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin approved the request Tuesday from the District of Columbia government and the U.S. Capitol Police, the Pentagon said in a statement Tuesday night.

The troops would be used to assist with traffic control during demonstrations expected in the city in the coming days, the Pentagon said. Four hundred Guard members from the District of Columbia Guard will be joined by 300 Guard members from other states, according to the statement.

Guard members will not carry firearms or take part in law enforcement or domestic-surveillance activities, the Pentagon said.

It’s not a particularly good look to deploy the military for legitimate protests, is it? It doesn’t matter than rationale. There are really only two reasons: one, to intimidate the truckers, and two, to keep the unhinged leftists, primarily Antifa, away from the truckers. Once we see where they are deployed we will get more of an idea. Will they be surrounding Capital Hill and the White House, refusing to let legitimate protesters who are protesting the government away?

It remains to be seen if any of the U.S. convoys would seek to actively shut down Washington’s streets, the way their Canadian counterparts did in Ottawa. Some convoy organizers have spoken of plans to briefly roll through the city, then focus on shutting down the Beltway, which encircles the capital.

A statement from the People’s Convoy specifically says the trucks “will NOT be going into DC proper.” That convoy is planning to embark Wednesday from southern California and arrive in D.C. around March 5.

The U.S. convoys seek an immediate lifting of what they say are heavy-handed government pandemic restrictions like mask mandates and vaccine requirements. The American Truckers Freedom Fund website says the group is protesting “the unscientific, unconstitutional overreach of the federal government.” (snip)

People’s Convoy organizer Mike Landis, in a video testimonial on the group’s website, said the current COVID vaccine “is not proven yet” but supported individual choice on whether to take it or not. Landis said the convoy was open to all vehicles and said the primary goal was to pressure Biden to lift the national state of emergency.

Now we’ll get to see if the Brandon admin is tempted to go full Fascist like Canada. Deploying 700 members of the military for a protest is an ugly look.

Freaking pentagon, useless POS won’t put folks at the border, but sure as hell will go against Americans. top officers have sworn allegiance to obama/bidet not the Constitution.

Another reactionary expresses their hatred for our military.

    • Professor Hale says:

The Pentagon has no mind of it’s own. The US military works for the US government and the democratic party owns it this year. The top generals will always do what they are told (unless Trump tells them).

The odd part of this is why do it at all. Northern VA, DC, and Maryland in the beltway area have tens of thousands of police who can be called in to perform this duty. 7oo national guard is symbolic at best and most likely just a boondoggle.

Does the Radical right now believe that blocking bridges and highwaysendangering lives by blocking first responders is a legal peaceful protest? Civil disobedience is illegal and cones with a price tag in possible injury, arrest, jail, etc. Trach would you have a problem if the truckers blocked you off from driving home or to work? I would.

    • Jl says:

John-can you read? We’ve asked you before why didn’t you pose the same questions when Antifa and BLM were blocking bridges, highways, first responders, burning buildings, looting and injuring over 700 hundred police officers? Or did we just miss it?

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Are you certain of 700 officers injured during the anti-killing-by-police protests and riots?

WASHINGTON — More than 700 law enforcement officers have been injured on the job during nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd — with nearly 300 of those among New York’s Finest, according to the Department of Justice and the NYPD.

More than 2,000 law enforcement officers were injured in the first weeks of protests over the summer following the police killing of George Floyd, according to a report released in October.

The Major Cities Chiefs Association, a professional association comprised of local law enforcement heads from the 69 largest police agencies in the United States and nine in Canada, detailed the unrest and compiled data from protests between May 25 and July 31 in MCCA member cities.

          Pick your poison.

The problem is Hairy that if you are referring to the protests in Ottawa, first responders were not blocked from going anywhere. No one’s life was endangered until the Trudeau ordered police moved in. (It could have gone so much better if he had just spoken with the truckers, but he went into hiding like the coward he is.)

Of course, Elwood. As seen below, we provide data to back up our assertions, unlike the climate nutters.
But too funny-“the anti killing by police protests…”. The other figure I’ve heard is 24 or so people killed during these “anti-killing by police protests”. In their words, 24 additional dead during the protesting of one dead. Sounds like a plan that BLM or Antifa would make..

        • Jl says:

Elwood- are you certain that John isn’t a monumental hypocrite? Plus, you have to love the drama Queen effect thrown in-“the radical right…”

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

I would have said ‘the reactionary right’…

You agree that killing by the state is different than other killings, right?

That distinction is missed by most reactionaries.

            And who is john???

  3. Jl says:

And you would be a drama queen, too-but we already knew that.
No-needless deaths are needless deaths. And in many of these cases, the “state” stood back and did nothing while streets burned and stores were looted and people killed
