How long do you think a person should spend in jail for petty crimes like shoplifting ?
I don’t think they should go to jail at all. Just cut off their left hand like the mooslems do. Their second offence is a life altering event. Their third, a life ending one.
Another question would be: how much cash loss are the shop keepers willing to absorb to give law enforcement a break? Should they just eat the loss? Increase all prices by 20% to for the customers to cover the “petty crime” losses? You see, “petty crimes” become major problems if you allow them to get out of hand. You know, the “Broken Window” theory.
Just like murderers only murder once if they’re executed and rapists only rape once if they’re emasculated, the punishment should suit the crime for Justice to be administered. Perhaps the law just goes to the “petty criminals” house and steals all his shit to see how he likes it?
But seriously, how long do YOU think they should go to jail? And BTW that $100 a day is spent whether Leroy in in jail or not. We don’t close down the prisons because he’s on the streets today. Now you have broken down the problem to it’s singular impact. How long do you think 5,000 Leroy’s a day should spend in jail? At what point do “petty crimes” deserve jail, 3rd offence, 5th, 20th? And then for how many days?
Right now the usual time spent in jail for “petty crimes” is about 18 hours. Then they are ROR. The local jails are too crowded to hold them very long. At least in major cities. That’s why they call it a revolving door and it’s been going on since the 50’s.
Much too harsh. Minor crimes should be punished with a beating. Maybe with a cane. No permanent damage. No criminal record. Larger property crimes get limited to restitution, and a beating. And death penalty for violent offenders. There is no excuse to ever let a known violent offender ever have a chance to be a second offense. Violent people don’t “get better”.
Bad luck Hiary that you spent so much time in jail for shoplifting and seem to know quite a bit about the inside of a jail. Perhaps you should do what the rest of us do and obey the law. I mean after all the left pretends to worship big government and it is big government that tells us to obey the law.
So what’s your problem?
If you don’t think that such criminals should be jailed, just what punishment do you think they should face? A stern talking to, perhaps?
Rudy Giuliani and Bernard Kerik cleaned up the disaster that was New York City by aggressively punishing ‘petty’ offenses. They gave the miscreants an early look at what life in jail was like, and, shazamm! NYC became much safer.
Then there’s foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy Philadelphia, run by Democrats since 1952, where ‘petty’ crimes aren’t punished . . . and the city has already matched its third highest yearly homicide in history, with a month yet to go! Philly has 459 murders so far this year, compared to 420 in New York City, which is seeing a crime spike of its own, but NYC has 5½ times Philly’s population.

It hardly matters at that point. If Trump doesn’t succeed here, there will never be a contested election again. Word will be out that elections are fake and the Democratic party will just manufacture as many votes as it needs to win. Democratic party judges will throw every challenge out of court. Democratic party media will declare, “there was no evidence”. America will become an oligarchy run by and for rich powerful Democrats with the mirage of “free elections” every 2 years. America only has one chance to change this. Either punishment for election fraud, or accepting that we will never see another fair election here again. I find it very amusing that so many poor and stupid Democrats are stooges for the rich and powerful. They say, “tax the rich” all the while “electing” rich people to write their tax laws. And those Democrats in office become fabulously wealthy for doing it.
And the girl definitely needs a warm coat in weather like that.

I have no problem with a single solitary GOP going to jail for life for breaking the law, or paying to buy and election.
