Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said unequivocally Friday night that President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee to fill the vacancy of late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg “will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.â€
Ginsburg, 87, died Friday from complications surrounding metastatic pancreas cancer.
“The Senate and the nation mourn the sudden passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the conclusion of her extraordinary American life,†McConnell said in a statement Friday.
“In the last midterm election before Justice Scalia’s death in 2016, Americans elected a Republican Senate majority because we pledged to check and balance the last days of a lame-duck president’s second term. We kept our promise,†McConnell continued. “Since the 1880s, no Senate has confirmed an opposite-party president’s Supreme Court nominee in a presidential election year.â€
McConnell added that “by contrast, Americans reelected our majority in 2016 and expanded it in 2018 because we pledged to work with President Trump and support his agenda, particularly his outstanding appointments to the federal judiciary.â€
“Once again, we will keep our promise,†he said. “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.â€
Gauntlet thrown down, eh? McConnell knows that there is no possible way to do this before the election. There would be no time for hearings, and too many are campaigning to do it properly. Plus you have crazies like Susan Collins who is doing her RINO stuff already. Win or lose, Senate and or President, they can do it after the election. McConnell could lose Collins and Romney, who would show their true leanings, and even one more GOP senator for the vote, with Pence giving the tie breaking vote to install a Trump pick.

Vox notes that Ginsburg had her last word on Trump last year, admitting during a talk on stage at Amherst College that she thought Trump was “an aberration.” That’s what we all hope against hope, right?
As NPR reports, Ginsburg reportedly dictated a statement to her granddaughter Clara Spera a few days before her death saying, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
But, really, what McConnell is doing is reminding people why elections are important. If Biden wins and gets his pick, the nature of the court doesn’t change. But, just imagine replacing RBG with a stalwart Constitutionalist justice, which would keep the court from being nutty leftist for decades to come. McConnell wants this fight, he wants the media focused on it, he wants squishy Republicans, Independents, and even old school Democrats who aren’t unhinged Leftists to talk about this and understand what’s at stake for this election.

The left is on fire right now in a bad way. They realize what just happened. Oh not that Trump might appoint another conservative justice. No, that might never even pass a vote as there are 3 or 4 senators that need or want to keep their jobs in the upcoming election and voting on a rammed through Supreme is most likely going to not happen as it could cost them or at least further hurt their chances of being reelected.
SO. With her death that leave 3 liberals on the Supreme court and then there is justice Roberts. If they do not select a replacement a 5-3 or 4-4 is the guaranteed outcome of a challenge by Trump to all this insidious non stop mail in voting after election day. The dems plan to keep counting votes until miraculously two months after the election they finally get enough votes to win the EC.
Trump will go to the Supreme Court to stop this and will win with a 5-3 vote. 4 conservative justices and Roberts will never let this end in a tie and go back to the lower court who will say, sure lets vote for a year, two years until Biden wins. Even if no Justice is appointed to replace her, it is still very unlikely that the supreme court would side with Voting from now till doomsday.

Since when did the NuGOP worry about doing anything properly? The pollyannish Dems talk about the ideals of America – freedom, rights, justice – while Republicans drink their milkshake. The NuGOP played the long game and won. They realized that a party of white, non-college men was going over a demographic waterfall, so they started working at the grass roots. Winning local elections, state elections, suppressing Dem votes, gerrymandering… recall that federal elections are determined state by state. It’s how the last two NuGOP Presidents lost the popular vote but took power. It’s how Dems win more votes nationwide but lose the Senate. The only hope is a voter response that overwhelms NuGOP subterfuge.
No hearings are needed. Democrats already have someone to claim that person to be named later touched them inappropriately or said something racist at a party 30 years ago and Republicans don’t care. Just like last time, we already know it will be a party-line vote, no matter who is nominated. So, just vote already. Democrats have turned Senate confirmation hearings into circuses. No reason for anyone serious about government to bother with them.

A personal note. I was at the bank yesterday and I said in passing I sure will be glad when this covid-19 is over and they have a cure. I do recall her saying if she was drafting a constitution today she would not look to ours for guidance. That is the statement of a typical closed minded leftist. She should never have been on the SC as it was her job to make sure laws coincided with the directions and intent of our Constitution and therefore if she was not willing to do that and rather change the meanings therein should not have been there.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.
Thus, when the Senate is in recess, the President may make a temporary appointment to any office requiring Senate approval, including filling vacancies on the Supreme Court, without the Senate’s advice and consent. Such a recess appointee to the Supreme Court holds office only until the end of the next Senate session (always less than two years).
