Climate Alarmists Are Now Pushing For A “Blue New Deal”

You’ve heard of the Green New Disaster, er, Deal, right? That’s all about controlling everything on the land and air for the United States and the citizens. It kinda forgot about the oceans, and surely all water bodies in the U.S. And Warmists are getting super-excited over it, despite not bothering to even attempt to pass the GND resolution in the Democrat controlled House

Enthusiasm builds for ‘Blue New Deal’ after climate town hall

A fisherman asked a question at CNN’s climate town hall this past week that got Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) very excited.

With all the focus on protecting land from global warming, he said, what about the other 70 percent of earth? Do we need a “Blue New Deal” to protect the oceans?

“I like that!” Warren responded. “He’s got it exactly right, we need a Blue New Deal.”

The name is a play on the Green New Deal proposed this year by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), which calls for a massive revamp of the American economy, growth of social programs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Notice that “reducing greenhouse gas emissions” is placed last in what the GND does. Would a Blue New Deal be any better?

“The trouble is, the Green New Deal only mentions our oceans one time,” Bren Smith, the fisherman and oyster farmer said at the CNN town hall, asking Warren for her plan to ensure “that all of us can make a living on a living planet.”

The Green New Deal doesn’t say much about waterways, only that the government should be “ensuring that public lands, waters, and oceans are protected.”

Some environmental experts argue there needs to be a bigger emphasis on waterways.

All the better to give the government ultimate power. They tried this, mostly, with the Waters Of The U.S. rule, which was shot down by multiple courts, and the Trump admin cancelled

Like the framing of the Green New Deal, he sees the expense of these investments as a way to create jobs and boost coastal economies while reducing pollution and other negative impacts of climate change that so often affect poor neighborhoods and communities of color.

So, more about Social Justice Warrioring than anything else? Huh.

Washington Gov. Jay Inlsee (D), who dropped out of the presidential race last month, was one of the few candidates to call out pollution from ports and shipping in his climate plan. Addressing it could involve carbon pricing and increasing the efficiency of supply chains.

That Inslee got zero traction, despite being an actual governor with executive experience, because he focused his whole campaign on ‘climate change’ should tell you all you need to. Even Democrats were not interested in practice.

Anyhow, let’s see if this Blue New Deal stuff catches on.

No, wait… Then the LGBTUVWXYZ brigade will complain.

    Never mind.

Progressives are so very clever. And, green and blue is Teal. The Teal New Deal.
These mental midgets only want to control us, not save the planet. They want US to live in the stone ages, while they will continue to fly and travel all over the country and world and live like royalty while we struggle to make ends meet and afford our electric cars that they want to mandate.

Both MA and NJ inshore shell fishermen are having decreasing harvests because of among other reasons acidification of oceans and the fact that NJ waters are warming much faster than the average “minuscule” amount

      John,
Why were you in jail? You really should tell us.

Obviously never been to the Jersey shore.

Water doesn’t get warm until Labor Day.

    • Jl says:

John-the oceans are in the 8.1-8.3 range, which is alkaline. Sorry.

      • david7134 says:

        Jl,
You have to understand how they measure these things. The oceans have variable zones, so they go to one tiny area that is acidic for whatever reason and measure there. Do the same for temperature. If you call them on it then they claim you believe in conspiracy. But as the last election demonstrated, conspiracy is alive and well.

Can you support your contention? Didn’t think so.

            Can you disprove it?

The fact you don’t even raise the question, but assert he can’t and attempt to shut him down, tells us you have no idea (what else is news?).

PS The “oyster farmer” strikes me as a plant, but I guess I just don’t trust a working stiff that wants to jump in bed with Fauxcahontas.

Ocean pH is decreasing as the waters absorb more and more CO2. CO2 dissolved in water ends up generating free H+. Recall too that pH is a log function, i.e., pH 7 is 10 times more acidic than pH 8.

        CO2 + H2O H2CO3 H+ + HCO3-

        • formwiz says:

What Idiot is trying to say is that he has no understanding of chemistry or mathematics.

Log function is a power of 10 (you can do logs in base numbers other than 10, but it wasn’t possible until calculators came along), so each bump up the scale brings you to the next power of 10.

And, of course, we earlier went into the whole idea that sea water isn’t pure H2O and all manner of compounds are created when CO2 is dissolved. More to the point (ha ha), the colder the water, the more CO2 is absorbed, and ocean water is much colder (why all the fish in the ocean are so big).

CO2 dissolved in water ends up generating free H+.

No, it doesn’t. It becomes H2CO3 and then reverts back to water and CO2.

          CO2 + H2O H2CO3 H+ + HCO3-

And what this is supposed to be, God only knows, but you really shouldn’t venture where you have no understanding whatsoever.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Your ignorance of basic chemistry is showing. And you try to cover it up with bullshit.

CO2 lowers the pH of water. H2CO3 is known as carbonic acid. Acids added to water dissociate into H+ and the base anion, in this case bicarbonate (HCO3-).

Any high school chemistry text will tell you all you need to know.

Is lying about simple things a requirement of being a NuCon?

Let me guess, you also think the Earth is 10,000 years old.

          • david7134 says:

            Jeff,
Did you happen to notice the little bicarbonate radical in your comment? That results in an alkaline environment. You free H does not stay free very long and becomes attached and much less acid. Good example of how you constantly lie.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Did they not teach chemistry in Louisiana? Didn’t you learn anything about how the body regulates blood pH?

            You’re wrong davey. Wrong.

Deny. Is not! Lies. It’s all NuCons have.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

            davey,

pH (puissance de hydrogen) refers to concentration of hydrogen ions (protons) in solution.

What happens when you add hydrochloric acid to water. The pH goes down, right?

Same for sulfuric acid. Even “weak” organic acids such as acetic acid (e.g., in vinegar) in water lowers the pH.

Carbonic acid does the same thing.

You guys are just trolling, you can’t be this ignorant. Can you?

          • david7134 says:

            Jeff,
There are about 50 ways to define an acid. Adding H to the solution does not always create an acid. It depends on what else is in the solution. One thing we did learn in medical school is how to spot a liar, son, you are a liar.

  5. formwiz says:

Your ignorance of basic chemistry is showing. And you try to cover it up with bullshit.

At least I don’t get mine from Slate or Salon.

Sorry, as always, wrong again. Got my info off physicsforums. Carbonic acid may act that way in air, but not in wawa.

    Where’d you get yours?

And you’re the one who gets caught in the lies.

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

      Dumbass,

Wherever you got your information was wrong. Carbonic acid dissociates to H+ and HCO3- in aqueous solutions. Very basic stuff. Even bicarbonate can dissociate to H+ and CO3– (carbonate).

Do you also believe the Earth is flat?

      Deny. Is not! Lie.

  6. formwiz says:

    Dumbass,

So any claim made must be disproved by someone? We’ll let you explain the logic and reason behind that.

    You’re dumber than tRump.

You made the assertion. Back it up. That’s called a proof. It’s the backbone of science, ya know.

And Trump’s so dumb he’s created an economy where unemployment rates are at all time lows and 6.2 million people dropped off food stamps because they finally got jobs.

I do not pretend to be a scientist or a mathematician or anyone with extensive training However I can google with the best of them.

The following was taken from the Scripts Institute of Oceanography.

Dickson noted that although the oceans presently take up about one-fourth of the excess CO2 human activities put into the air, that fraction was significantly larger at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. That’s for a number of reasons, starting with the simple one that as one dissolves CO2 into a given volume of seawater, there is a growing resistance to adding still more CO2.

More than 50 years ago, the late Scripps Director Roger Revelle defined a term now known as the Revelle Factor to describe this aspect of the relationship between the changing composition of seawater and the overlying atmosphere.

The point always continues to be as the professor involved in researching the great coral reef indicated the oceans slow rate and the natural resistance to co2 to be absorbed and turned acidic acids.

To me and the professor and even Scripts which is for sure in bed with AGW…..their research indicates one thing. The oceans are doing just fine contrary to LIES put out to get more grant money from the almighty TIT of the federal government

TL:DR scientifically it has been proven that the more co2 put into oceans the more resistant it becomes to adding more co2. Which is why the corals are not suffering like many would have us believe but in fact are expanding and growing.

      AND:

This is an important factor as to why the Co2 in the atmosphere is rising because of the mass clear-cutting of both the rain forest as well as huge swathes of land in China and other developing nations of co2 sinking trees, not to mention the ever-increasing need to cultivate more land for food which also expells co2.

Combine that with an obvious increase in co2 production and there is no doubt that the co2 levels in the atmosphere are going to rise.

The solutions are ample for a reduction of co2 without raping the world’s economies but the left is not interested in that. Just like they weren’t interested in DACA when Trump told them to fix it. Or interested in closing the borders when prior to Trump they were all for closing the borders. Just like they aren’t interested in fixing poverty or a myriad of other things. Because its all they got to run on every 2 years to keep power.

Elwood your own party doesn’t want to fix CO2. Seriously they don’t. In 2015 Obama and HRC were opposed to a carbon tax because 45 dollars per tonne of co2 would cost the average taxpayer almost 500 dollars per year in cost and would hit the poorest the hardest.

When Obama had a veto proof economy he could have fixed AGW but instead he penalized corporations, bailed out banks and gave us Obamacare while totally ignoring AGW except with some bizarre EPA rulings like protecting wetlands that were oozing methane into the air.
