Washington Post: Trump Stayed At His Money Losing, Climate Change Threatened Resort In Europe, You Know

The Washington Post, like many leftist news outlets, are all over the place. Their lead article is actually rather nice

Trump, world leaders salute Normandy veterans on D-Day anniversary

But then we have unhinged in the opinion section

For D-Day, Trump recalls the heroism of … Donald Trump

My father served on D-Day. He experienced a leader who spawned hatred.

And right under the lead story we get one which should be in the opinion section

Trump ending trip to Europe by staying at his money-losing golf course threatened by climate change

President Trump arrived at his golf course in Doonbeg, Ireland, on Wednesday for a two-night stay — pausing between official events in Europe to visit a business that has cost him $41 million and never reported turning a profit.

Trump, coming off an official state visit to Britain, landed at Shannon Airport in the west of Ireland and met briefly with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar before flying to Doonbeg, about 40 miles away.

The Irish Times reported that Trump originally wanted to meet with Varadkar at his golf club, but Varadkar wanted to meet at another nearby hotel. The two leaders settled on an awkward compromise: the VIP lounge at the airport.

So, instead of costing the taxpayers oodles of dollars staying at a fancy pants 5 star resort owned by someone else like with Obama, Trump stays at his own fancy pants resort, costing the taxpayers nothing for him, Melania, all the staff, the Secret Service, etc.

The Trump Organization cited climate change in its application for the permit, according to a Politico report from 2016, saying that sea-level rise and more-powerful storms had worsened the threat of erosion. Trump the politician, of course, has questioned idea that climate change is a threat at all — defying the overwhelming scientific consensus and his own golf course’s assessment of its future.

They never claimed it was climate change which is mostly/solely caused by Mankind.

At Doonbeg, Trump is likely to find something that escaped him in London: a warm welcome. Trump’s club employs more than 200 people, making it one of the largest employers in a rural area of County Clare. Reporters visiting the area in advance of his visit found that locals — even those who disagreed with his politics — thanked him for bringing customers and money to Doonbeg.

“People divorce Donald Trump the owner of the golf course from his politics,” said James Griffin, a member of the Trump club interviewed by the Irish Times. “People have their own ideas about his policies. The big thing here are the jobs he supports.”

Huh. How about that. Democrats might want to remember that come election time, as the jobs market is doing pretty darned well under President Trump.

  1. Professor Hale says:

As I have pointed out before, having staff lawyers draw up local government documents to get permits and saying what local permit approvers need to hear in those documents, has very little to do with Mr Trump himself making a statement of his belief or what his future policies in another country might be, if he were elected President. There are all sorts of things I don’t tell my county code enforcers.

  2. Elwood P. Dowd says:

TEACH typed, risibly: “…Trump stays at his own fancy pants resort, costing the taxpayers nothing for him, Melania, all the staff, the Secret Service, etc.”

Are you kidding? trump always charges the US gov’t for lodging etc at his resorts when he visits. Always. It’s taxpayer money going into trump inc. It’s just Grifter 101.

Do you really think trump “eats” the expense of staff, security, Secret Service etc?

    • Professor Hale says:

This is very likely true since it was accepted practice by past presidents too. The Clinton’s were known to charge the secret service rent for the space they used in the Clinton’s Chappaquiddick home. But we are just speculating on the exact breakdown of the expenses incurred and reimbursed by the government. It is common practice for the secret service to pick up the tab at hotels and restaurants that they use and they have a fund for that. I suspect the Trumps get the “employee’s discount” for their personal rooms and catering. This would also be consistent for the well known, but ignored, generosity of the Trumps in not taking pay or reimbursements from the Government.

      • Kye says:

None of that “generosity” matters, Professor if an unscrupulous one can indict Trump for “charging the US government” for something, anything will do. I also like the assured “Are you kidding? trump always charges the US gov’t for lodging etc at his resorts when he visits” as if he personally signs the bills for the US taxpayer.

      • formwiz says:

Keep in mind the Ozarks, though hardly penniless, weren’t in Trump’s class monetarily (or any other way).

Most Presidents don’t enter the White House as zillionaires. Franklin Roosevelt, the Bushes, and Jack Kennedy were the only exceptions in recent times.

So the bunny suit is probably just making it up (Lefties do that a lot).

        Surprise!

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Not taking reimbursements? The government pays a trump company for flying SS agents around. The Secret Service has spent at least $137,505 to rent golf carts to protect President Trump this year at his private clubs in New Jersey and Florida.

As for not taking his miniscule salary – each golf trip to Mar-a-Lago costs the US taxpayer 8 times the cost of his salary.

Remember the sturm and drang from the FOX crowd whenever “Lazy” President Obama and “Moochelle” took trips? Good times.

        • Kye says:

You do realize Elwood the government pays every President even those not named TRUMP for flying SS agents around? You remember when The half-breed took one flight, then his wife took another then they sent a plane and SS agents FOR THE FUKIN: DOG? Ya remember? Did you complain you fraud? No, you didn’t.

You must be very rich if you believe $400,000 is a “miniscule salary”, but you are claiming that EACH trip to Mar-a-Lago costs $3.2 million? Prove it.

And the “sturm and drang” (whatever the hell that white privileged term means) was about The Half Kenyan and Moochelle taking SEPARATE flights and costing the taxpayer TWICE AS MUCH!!! Those two A-holes wouldn’t even vaca together.

Did you go around today and tell WWII vets they are killers of “men, women and children and have no value” or do you save those comments for Vietnam vets only? It’s also a good day for a flag burning on your front lawn to impress the leftist neighbors. Maybe even an effigy of Trump and Melania. You could put it on Twitter and Facebook.

          TRUMP 2020!

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

The difference, of course, that you trump worshipers hide, is that tRump is having the gov’t pay tRump companies. He is using taxpayer funds to pay his own companies.

And so-called conservatives are overjoyed that trump is scamming the system. Let’s see… he raised (and promises to raise even more) the taxes of the working classes. But you love him because he hates non-white, non-Christians as much as you do. He hates women and libs and gays. And Mexicans and Muslims and Guatemalans.

        • formwiz says:

If a particular Trump company is a government contractor, then that is a business arrangement.

An “entrepreneur” and a “”capitalist like you should be able to figure that out and I’m willing to be the relationship has lasted long before Trump was elected.

The Secret Service has spent at least $137,505 to rent golf carts to protect President Trump this year at his private clubs in New Jersey and Florida.

How much did it have to shell out to chase Sambo around the links trying to prove he’s really a white man?

330 times, yet. It does cost money to fly out to the links and provide security. And there’s all that time off the job. You figure about $1100/day, so 550 * 330 for all those afternoons lost, plus security and Marine One.

each golf trip to Mar-a-Lago costs the US taxpayer 8 times the cost of his salary.

4 mil a shot? Not even the fake news buys that one.

Remember the sturm and drang from the FOX crowd whenever “Lazy” President Obama and “Moochelle” took trips?

Cost the country 100 mil, even if he could find somebody to sponge off (just like the Ozarks). This, of course, includes Mike’s excursions with 40 primate entourage and her/his racist mother.

Haven’t seen Melania zipping off like that. Hell, she only has a staff of 4.

          Try again, whiner.

PS When they end it, Good Times, they’re trying to denote some kind of superiority, but it just comes out false bravado.

And $400,000 a year, plus an extra expense allowance of $50,000 a year, a $100,000 non-taxable travel account and $19,000 for entertainment (569 Gs) is hardly miniscule.

    • formwiz says:

Just more baseless charges or is there actually some fact behind it?

  3. Professor Hale says:

A few facts, just to chew on:
    1. The hourly operating cost for Air Force One is an estimate and includes “down time”, maintenance for a 747, and all the full time staff and crew. Those costs are all going to be paid anyway even if Air Force one never leaves the ground. This costs also includes “government accounting” of overhead.

An average 747 costs $25,000/hour to operate. Air Force One claims it costs $206,000 per hour. The difference is the cost of being president, plus the cost of government inefficiency, plus differences in accounting. Air Force one costs include having a second plane on stand by.
The President doesn’t go anywhere “alone”. So, when AF1 takes off, it is carrying a lot of people in it.
Secret service “costs” are also estimates and include hotels, travel (if commercial tickets are used). It wouldn’t surprise me if the US Air Force also took reimbursements from the Secret Service to fly agents on AF1. The Air Force charges the US Army to carry their troops. Some estimates include their pay too, but that is going to be paid anyway, even if they never leave home.
There are no publicly available numbers that detail the bills the President pays for his trips. Zero. Doesn’t exist. So, any conclusions about who is paying who and for what are pure speculation. It is also purely speculative how much Trump personally gains from his business that includes government payments. Every bill the SS pays goes to pay the staff, management, capital investment, interest, utilities, legal fees, insurance, and materials. What is left after that is called profit and is divided among all the “owners”, and Trump is only one of those. So, when the hotel bills the Secret Service for a hotel room for $250, Trump is not putting $250 into his own pocket. The Golf cart numbers are an exception because the reporters could just ask the golf pro shop how many carts were reserved and multiply by the hourly rate. Of course, only the Trump administration is coming under media criticism for travel costs. In the three years Trump has been in office, his family have taken zero vacations to Europe, Asia or Africa.

    Typical Leftist arguments:
Leftist: Trump personally profits from charging the taxpayers for his travel.
Opposition: Trump hasn’t taken a salary in three years in office, nor have any of his children.
Leftist: That doesn’t count because it’s not enough. (Over a million at this point)

  4. Kye says:

Elwood, those numbers you “cited” from Wapo are a cooked as your crooked company books. They are including the costs of NOT going to Mar-a-Lago along with the costs of going. Nothing new is added except the costs of the location, all other costs are ongoing whether or not any president is in Florida or DC. You are really a doofus.

  5. Kye says:

” But you love him because he hates non-white, non-Christians as much as you do. He hates women and libs and gays. And Mexicans and Muslims and Guatemalans.”

Show me the exact quote where he said he “HATED” any one of those categories. One! You can’t because once again you are caught in a bold-faced LIE!

From John Hinderaker at Power Line (I particularly like the last line “juvenile smears”) :

Both Trumpists and their opponents have also de-emphasized the Ben Franklin narrative and embraced narratives that put race at the center. Trump’s narrative is: We real Americans (white) have to protect our culture from the alien (brown) who would weaken it.
How can this be “Trump’s narrative,” when it is something he has never said? How has Trump put race at the center of anything? He almost never talks about race, except to point out–correctly–that his administration has produced great results for African-Americans and Hispanics. And when has Trump ever said that “real Americans” are white? The claim is ridiculous. Likewise with the reference to “alien (brown)” culture. Can we have a reference, please? Sometimes it seems that almost everyone in public life talks constantly about race, with the exception of President Trump. What, then, is the justification for saying that he has “put race at the center,” and stands for the proposition that “real Americans” are white?
Perhaps Brooks (and other liberals who make similar claims) is talking about illegal immigration. But Trump advocates a merit-based immigration system like Canada’s, under which we would import more doctors and engineers from India and the Far East. And Trump points out, correctly, that mass unskilled immigration hurts lower-income blacks. (The academic research on this is irrefutable.) Perhaps that is why, as Brooks acknowledges, “African-Americans are actually less progressive on [immigration] issues than white liberals.” Immigration is just one of a number of areas in which Trump’s policies are pro-black.
Liberals like Brooks and many others seem to believe that they can tar President Trump as a racist or, as in this column, a white supremacist, without citing any evidence. (And please, don’t try to bring up the Charlottesville fraud.) These are sheer fantasies, but fantasies that are often indulged on the Left. What I don’t understand is, why do liberals think any of the rest of us will be persuaded by such juvenile smears?
