Burning Fossil Fuels Cools The Planet, Says….NASA?

Well, um, this is certainly interesting. Perhaps this is why, despite all their hysteria and apoplexy regarding fossil fuels, most members of the Cult of Climastrology refuse to give up their own usage of fossil fuels, with some leading Warmists using way more than the average person. As you’re reading this, and popping over to the link, think about the reason for the publication for this study

Climate change shock: Burning fossil fuels ‘COOLS planet’, says NASA

Major theories about what causes temperatures to rise have been thrown into doubt after NASA found the Earth has cooled in areas of heavy industrialisation where more trees have been lost and more fossil fuel burning takes place.

Environmentalists have long argued the burning of fossil fuels in power stations and for other uses is responsible for global warming and predicted temperature increases because of the high levels of carbon dioxide produced – which causes the global greenhouse effect.

While the findings did not dispute the effects of carbon dioxide on global warming, they found aerosols – also given off by burning fossil fuels – actually cool the local environment, at least temporarily.

Interestingly, most of the places which tend to have heavy concentrations of industry and fossil fuels usage are typically urbanized areas, which tend to be run mostly by Democrats in the U.S. and left-leaning political parties in other nations, who all tend to make up the bulk of the True Believers in anthropogenic climate change/global warming.

Of course, what is this really about? We note that the article is essentially saying that industry, burning fossil fuels, and deforestation is masking ACC/AGW

But, rather than being good news, NASA has concluded the lack of taking these factors into account means existing climate change models have underestimated at the future impact on global temperatures will be. (snip)

But the new NASA study dovetails with a GISS study published last year that puts the TCR value at 3.0°F (1.7° C).

TCR is the short term prognostication, up to a century out, saying what will happen with a doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentrations. At its heart, this is all about creating yet another excuse for the Pause, and saying that Doom Is Coming very soon.

    Global Warming logic:
    1. Global Warming is happening and we must stop it.
    2. CO2 is responsible for Global Warming
    3. We must stop burning fossil fuels to stop Global Warming.
    4. Burning fossil fuels is cooling the earth and stopping Global Warming.
    5. We need to stop burning fossil fuels so Global Warming can continue.
    6. The burning of fossil fuels is masking the real impacts of Global Warming …so we need to stop burning fossil fuels in order to see the real impacts of Global Warming.

The climate losers have officially “jumped the shark”.

Global warming anthropogenic — is that how it’s spelled? — climate change is an absolutely wonderful theory, one in which all sorts of reasons can be given why short-term measurements have not matched projections, but one in which the long-term results cannot be measured, to confirm or debunk the theory, until after we have all gone to our eternal rewards.

    So, our options are:

1 – Assume that the warmists are correct, and increase costs for energy right now, to produce a result which may or may not occur, long after we are dead; or
2 – Assume that even if the warmists are correct, we will be able to deal with whatever climate change happens as it is happening, and not impoverish people alive today.

    What a silly article.

The spokesman said it was “well known” that aerosols such as those emitted in volcanic eruptions and power stations, act to cool Earth, at least temporarily, by reflecting solar radiation away from the planet.

The effect of aerosols on global temperatures has been known for decades, so its hardly a “shock”. The Global Aerosol Climatology Project (GACP) was established in 1998. Forcing from aerosols is short-lived, so long term, greenhouse forcing will predominate. In addition, aerosols will eventually be reduced (consider the air quality in Beijing, and how it is inhibiting growth).

And now they’ve come full circle. They used to say the same thing in the 70’s when they were warning of the coming ice age. Some of the same scaremongers that were later warning of warming.

Isn’t it time to put these scammers on the front page of the papers and mock them for being the con men that they are?

JGlanton: They used to say the same thing in the 70’s when they were warning of the coming ice age.

You’re half right. There are two countervailing anthropogenic influences: aerosols, which tend to cool the climate; and greenhouse gases, which tend to warm the climate. There was never a consensus about global cooling, and it quickly became clear to those who studied the problem that greenhouse warming would ultimate overwhelm the signal from aerosols. Of course, the reduction of aerosols as pollution regulations were implemented reduced the problem. However, China is rapidly industrializing, and they are experiencing many of the same problems with pollution the West experienced while they industrialized, but without the benefit of non-governmental environmental groups capable of putting pressure on the government.
