Only 51K Complete “Affordable” Care Act Applications

That’s out of tens of millions of web-hits. They had over 3 years to plan for this. $634 million spent on setting up the federal ACA website. $313 million to set up the website for “Covered California”. Huge sums to set up the ExchangeFails in the other states that are participating. Yet…

(UK Dailymail) Just 51,000 people completed Obamacare applications during the first week the Healthcare.gov website was online, according to two sources inside the Department of Health and Human Services who gave MailOnline an exclusive look at the earliest enrollment numbers.

The career civil servants, who process data inside the agency, confirmed independently that just 6,200 Americans applied for health insurance through the problem-plagued website on October 1, the day it first opened to the public.

Neither HHS nor the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services would comment on the record about the numbers. Enroll America, the president’s organization of health care ‘navigators’ who are charged with helping Americans sign up, didn’t reply to a request for information about its level of success so far.

The White House also did not respond to emails seeking comment.

Now, these are people who completed the applications. This doesn’t mean they actually obtained health insurance. Nor that they are eligible for “subsidies”. If the numbers were super-awesome, we know that Team Obama would be spiking the football left and right. Instead, the obfuscate, give mealy-mouthed responses, and make things up when asked.

BTW, isn’t it funny that we have to find out so much information from the British press regarding the most transparent administration evah!?

Well it’s just not good news on many levels so the propaganda won’t be helpful to the Obama administration. It would take another nation to report factually. Oddly enough from a nation that this administration has been disrespectful to an a few occasions. Go figure.

Since it’s clear that Obamacare is an abject failure we patriot makers won’t have to worry about healthcare any more! It will sink under its own weight.

    Yippee!

Those shiftless “taker” urbanites will finally have to go out and get jobs and buy health insurance like the rest of us “maker” patriots.

Next we can kill Medicaid and Medicare so that the super-poor and the elderly “takers” will stop sucking the teat of Mother America!

What happened to the America where citizens were self-reliant and didn’t rely on hard-working, tax-paying patriot “makers” like us to take care of them!

In my hometown, the “takers” that own the NFL team want the “makers” to pony up a few hundred million for a new stadium or they’ll take their team to new city. I say it’s time for us “makers” to, with one voice, tell these “takers” no! We are taxed enough already! But I guess some “takers” are better than other “takers”.

In my business, we deal with physicians who are complaining that there are just not enough physicians to go around since we want even the “takers” to have access to healthcare. We suggested to start hiring quality physicians from overseas, e.g., from India, from Europe. The objection is that since these physicians will work for less, this is unfair competition and could lower the US physicians incomes! The US govt agrees and limits the number of foreign docs. It’s only fair that auto workers (classic “takers”) have to compete with foreign competition but that physicians do not.

Also, in my business, the US Patent Office grants us drug patents that keep others from competing with us for a couple of decades, allowing us to charge whatever we want! The pitiful “takers” pay us $100 for a pill worth $1 in a truly “free” market. We make so much money and all because the Federal Gov’t has granted us a legal monopoly. I guess that’s why they call us “makers’!

  4. That’s a good point, Trish. Among the many insults Obama has hit the Brits with includes insulting the British press very early in his presidency

And no one is stopping you from saying “no.” If it is a bond issue or something like that, no one is saying you cannot rise up and say “we don’t want this to be publicly funded.

We suggested to start hiring quality physicians from overseas, e.g., from India, from Europe. The objection is that since these physicians will work for less, this is unfair competition and could lower the US physicians incomes!

This is a simplistic overview of the situation and falsely states the immigration of foreign physicians which include such issues as education and that most countries don’t want to let their doctors leave. Is pay a consideration? Maybe. But it is nowhere near the top of the reasons and you know that.

Also, in my business, the US Patent Office grants us drug patents that keep others from competing with us for a couple of decades, allowing us to charge whatever we want!

The patents for drugs, just like any other patent is 20 years. However, unlike other patents, the government forces the company holding to patent to give up the exclusivity on the patent after a period of years. This is unlike any other patent in the US.

In essence, people like you are advocating taking someone elses work and work product and demand that they sell it for a price you want.

That not only makes you a taker, but a thief.

  6. Jeffery says:

    gitar,

I’m pleased you support the current patent system! It makes me lots of money at the expense of the little people who take drugs. So, does that make me a “maker” or a “taker”? I still get royalties on a 1988 invention (and subsequent patents and drug). But the big money isn’t for the inventors but for the execs, shareholders and other investors. Us rich people making even more money from the working classes – all protected by the federal gov’t! Americans pay $100-200 BILLION extra because of our drug patent system. Thanks, guys!

You do agree that patents are not part of the “free market”, right? They are federally enforced monopolies.

  7. On one hand, Jeffrey, pro sports brings in hugerevenues to the local economies. Even small teams like my local Durham Bulls and Carolina Mudcats. We also have the Hurricanes. So those public investments can pay off.

However, it is public money, and I never liked the blackmail from owners who, in some cases, get greedy. Typically there is an election with a bond on the ticket. Local folks can make that direct democracy decision.

If you’re talking about the Cowboys, hell no. Jones has tons of money, and the team makes oodles. Of course, it’s still up to the residents.

As for patents, they are part of the free market system. Someone spent time and money and beat everyone else, and deserve the protection of their product. Should someone be able to profit off work they didn’t do? No. Some things will her them, others won’t.

  8. gitarcarver says:

Why would one believe that unless they did not understand the meaning of “free market?”

    They are federally enforced monopolies.

If you mean they protect legal monopolies which include the right of a person to market their product and sell it as they see fit, that is correct.

Certainly you would not argue that Tom Clancy should not be able to sell his works as he see fit, would you?

Of course, it is interesting that you are arguing against the very patent system that you say has paid you benefits.

You certainly have the option to release the patent you own which would show the depth of your convictions, but you haven’t done that.

You want others to not reap the benefit of their hard work while you merrily reap the benefit of your work.

Interesting that once again we see a liberal acting in a hypocritical manner, don’t you think?
