Comrade Edwards Would Require Doctors Visits (now with more evil!)

Achtung! Der Fuhrer hopeful has spoken (Ok, so I am mixing political metaphors. I think you will see why in a second)

TIPTON, Iowa — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal healthcare proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

”It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,” he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can’t choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.”

Edwards said his mandatory healthcare plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans.

”The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death,” he said.

Got that? You will be forced to go to the doctor, the dentist, the eye care provider, the mental health professional, whether you want to or need to, operative phrase being "want to." Whither freedom under Edwards. I have to wonder, how would he force people? By fining them? Or perhaps criminal penalties? Maybe the FHC (Federal Healthcare) Police will come and get you, take you to the doctors? Of course, we will all need planners, or at least learn how to work the calendar on our cell phones, since we will have to make said appointments months in advance, like in all the other countries with socialise healthcare.

Of course, to pay for the $120 billion it will cost, Edwards is going to jack the taxes on people making $200k and more. That should do it! ‘Cause, according to reports, annual cost of health care per person is, on average, $5,313 per person. That means an annual cost overall of $1,593,900,000,000. Where does he get the other $1,591,800,000,000, or, hell, let’s make it easy, $1.59 trillion? Yes, it is less then exact, but, hey, what is a few hundred billion between friends?

Maybe we should stop calling it socialized healthcare, and call it facist healthcare, or Nazi healthcare. Or simply totalitarian healthcare.

As a sidebar, the story also mentions Silky wanting everyone to give up their SUVs, a refrain from a few days ago. What will he do?

"I think all of us have to move, have to make progress,” he said. "I’m not holier-than-thou about this (you are right about that!). . . . I’m like a lot of Americans, I see how serious this issue is and I want to address it myself and I want to help lead the nation in the right direction.”

He said he would not buy another SUV in the future.

But he wants you to give up yours now.

Back to Der Fuhrer’s main point

Six Meat Buffet:

One of the best things about Democrat pre-primary politics is when they start trying to out-liberal each other.

Ann Alhouse:

He’s so warmed up about the generous benefits he’s promising that he doesn’t even hear the repressiveness in his own statements. I’m sure he won’t be able to deliver on these promises. I’m just wondering about a person with so little sensitivity toward personal freedom.

Links via Memeorandum, the story I saw this morning. Maybe I should create a new category, wackjob lunatics, in light of the way liberals are acting lately.

Look, I was just as concerned as you. then I did the smart thing and read the damn document. It says we’d get a discount for getting preventative care –which would be free or low cost, by the way — not that we will be rounded up and forcibly given mammograms. Look, I’m not sure he’s the right candidate yet, but can we avoid adding to the media crucifixion?

  3. Scrapiron says:

Doesn’t his mean that the taxpayers will pick up the total bill for every doctor, hospital and medical professional in the country. No one pays but the taxpayers. I don’t think there’s many calculators that can go that high.

  4. ShortWoman, I am just repeating what the article stated, based on his own words. They weren’t mine.

Scrap, I know I had to switch from a basic calculator to the Windows one to get the figure I came up with. Not enough lines. He seems to be Kerry lite.

  5. Scrapiron says:

I used the windows calculator and it burned a black hole in my LCD screen almost as big as the hole in Silky’s head. Do you think it will add up the number of left wing heads that exploded today when it was announced that President Bush was in Iraq? Since the democrats have nothing constructive to contribute about anything they will spend the next week searching for another republican ‘homosexual’ to out. Sleeze and slime is their only game.

  6. Don’t a lot of doctors make more than $200k a year? If he raises income taxes on those making a lot of money (even if they are doctors trying to pay back huge student loans, or doctors just starting to enjoy the payoff of their hard work) isn’t that going to necessitate that doctors raise their rates in order to make ends meet, and thus drive the price of health care even higher?

And in order to deal with the increased number of patients, won’t the doctors have to work overtime, and thus, aren’t they entitled to healthcare workers union overtime wages? (since we all know how Edwards feels about unions…)
