Roberts: You Will Be Questioned to Death

The new Democratic filibuster method: question a candidate to death. That is what is going to happen, folks. Not a hard call to make. The talking point is about Roberts "answering questions." The Dems will ask questions ad nauseum. It’s what they all are saying. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was talking about not liking Roberts the first time he was sent up, and

"I voted against Judge Roberts for the D.C. Court because he didn’t answer questions fully and openly when he appeared before the committee. For instance, when I asked him a question that others have answered — to identify three Supreme Court cases of which he was critical, he refused."

and

"(it) is a whole new ballgame — for those of us who voted against him, for those who voted for him, and for Judge Roberts."

Question which Orrin Hatch said about:

"Some I totally disagree with. Some I think are dumb… questions, between you and me. I am not kidding you. I mean, as much as I love and respect you, I just think that’s true."

Hatch refused to revise his comments when asked by Schumer. Good for him.

A list of Schumer’s questions is located at FoxNews, and include a belly buster:

14. Where is the line between civil rights questions that are political and questions that are appropriate for a court to decide?
– Do you agree with the reasoning in Powell v. McCormack? Why or why not?
– Do you agree with the reasoning in Baker v. Carr? Why or why not?
– Do you agree with the reasoning in Bush v. Gore? Why or why not?
What power does the Supreme Court have to intervene in state election laws (as in Bush v. Gore)?
– What role should the Supreme Court be playing in disputed elections?

Get over 2000, Dems. The seething is unbelievable. And how about John Kerry (who was in Vietnam) and is also a Senator?

“We know Judge Roberts is no Sandra Day O’Connor, and the White House has sent a clear signal. There are serious questions that must be answered involving Judge Roberts’ judicial philosophy as demonstrated over his short time on the appellate court. The Senate must learn whether he has clear consistent principles upholding Constitutional standards like civil rights, the right to privacy and Roe v. Wade.

“The American people expect the Senate to fulfill its duty to conduct a thorough, independent review of any nominee, and I intend to do exactly that. I hope Judge Roberts and the White House are forthcoming about his qualifications, background and constitutional philosophy so the Senate can act with all the facts. There’s too much at stake to do anything less.”

Sounds like what the Dems have done to Bolton.  How about Teddy?

All of us in the Senate who have been through this process know the importance of this process. Every American ought to be asking some tough questions right now about whether Mr. Roberts is fit to serve on the highest court in the land.

I welcome the opportunity to question Mr. Roberts, and believe that the American people will know at the end of this process whether he should advance to the Supreme Court.

This is the insidious little plan by the Democrats to obstruct Bolton Roberts from being confirmed with and up or down vote. They will question him to death, paint him as a guy that doesn’t answer questions fully (especially after asking silly questions again and again), and say he is an ideologue, in lock step with the Bush administration. Going to be a fun ride. Fair and dignified it will not be.
