Scarborough and Plame

Every knows, or should have, a working knowledge of the Valerie Plame situation, and how Judge Hogan is saying "release your sources name, or go to jail." Judith Miller of the NY Times was sent to the pokey yesterday, even though her source said she could reveal the name. But, apparently Joe Scarborough has gotten his knickers all bunched up on this one.

Americans lost their best check on corrupt politicians today, and they don’t even know it.

Federal Judge Thomas Hogan sent New York Times reporter Judy Miller to jail today for refusing to divulge the name of a source who "outed" an undercover CIA agent.

While the media is focusing on how Miller’s jailing will impact American journalism, I am far more concerned with how the court decision will undermine good government in Washington.

As one who has worked in the back rooms of Congress, I know government corruption and political misdeeds are most often revealed by unnamed sources anonymously passing must-know information to a reporter.

Sorry, Joe, I usually agree with you, but, this time, you are off the edge of the map. The journalists in the Plame case are protecting one or more people who "outed" a supposed CIA operative, ie, someone in the Directorite of Operations vs someone in Intelligence, Science and Technology, or Administration. The journalists aren’t protecting someone who gave up a big, juicy story about bad people. Whether or not a crime was committed by outing Plame, they are not protecting a big whistleblower. Reveal the name, let’s get this over with.

It won’t be Rove, either, as I have said. Where it Rove, these journalists would have finally "rolled over" last year, as near to the election as possible. I still have my money on Joe Wilson.

I bet the ACLU gets involved. Huh? Doesn’t count, eh? 🙂
