More On Patraeus

Kathryn Jean Lopez

So you think technology is bad in Iraq? The U.S. House of Representatives can’t get the commanding general a working mic in Washington, D.C. Ike Skelton seems to be offering to read his statement for him…. he should have stayed in Baghdad.

Completely embarrassing. we’ve been waiting for this since spring, and they didn’t think to check the technology before Petraeus and Crocker made the trip.

She also has the salient points from his testimony.

John Kerry stands up like a man

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts, criticized MoveOn.org Monday for taking an ad out in The New York Times criticizing Gen. David Petraeus. The general is testifying before Congress today about the situation in Iraq. (Related: Dems join GOP in slamming ad attacking Petraeus)

“I don’t like any kind of characterizations in our politics that call into question any active duty, distinguished general,” Kerry told CNN, adding “who I think under any circumstances serves with the best interests of our country.”

Unfortunately, others aren’t quite so forthright. And others know that the nutroots will say what would be political suicide for an elected Congress-person. Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fl) apparently mentioned this from Politico on Friday

These groups have no problem going after Petraeus, as evidenced by heavy criticism of him by Americans Against Escalation in Iraq (“It is clear that Americans cannot trust any assessments that come out of this White House, or Gen. Petraeus when it comes to the war in Iraq”) and the Center for American Progress, among others. But it is a tactic that Democratic lawmakers themselves want to avoid.

“No one wants to call [Petraeus] a liar on national TV,” noted one Democratic senator, who spoke on the condition on anonymity. “The expectation is that the outside groups will do this for us.”

Check out the disgusting comments at Crooks and Liars. Have you ever noticed that Lib blogs tend to have very negative names?

Don’t question their patriotism, though. Especially some at the Dummocratic Underground. Also here. And, some outtakes

  • MoveOn.org has been receiving a lot of crap, from people on both sides, about their well done ad in the NYTimes today.

    I stand with MoveOn.

Every thing that has been said today was a complete LIE. Violence has gone down? Surge objectives are being met? Iran this and that?

    LIES!

It is sad that General Petraeus is channeling Bush Inc, and their usual talking points but it was to be expected. One thing is for certain: It is the "Betray us" report. By lying in front of the American people and being a good partisan Bush foot soldier, he has betrayed us.

I will now send some money to MoveOn. It’s not much, but it’s a token of my appreciation for always standing up for what we believe in and getting the word out!

  • I don’t stand with John Kerry denouncing the moveon.org ad
  • No kidding! I do, too. I called that ileana bush-fellatio’s office and told her that I, as one of those MoveOn supporters, resented her patronizing, snippy little comment – "TAKE IT EASY!!!" to one of her colleagues who evidently took offense that, because he was a Democrat, perhaps he was "guilty" by association. Don’t know who that was, but evidently he’s sensitive about it, too. But I told the staffer for ileana’s office that it is SHE who needs to "TAKE IT EASY!!!"
  • You know I am not so liberal – and I looked at what move-on did And I think it was not only very smart but commendable.

Jesus – at least they said what they meant and didn’t back down.

Nice job move-on. You can safely ignore the patronizing little bastards that say otherwise right now.

I really do not have the fortitude tonight to really do a deep dumpster dive.

Anyhow, check the open thread at Hot Air, this one over at Michelle M’s, and the always brilliant Captain Ed.
