In other words, he is calling conservatives Nazis
(The Politico) Ron Paul dropped his standard stump speech on Wednesday and aggressively courted Latino voters.
At a senior center in East Las Vegas, the Texas congressman told about 100 Hispanics that they have been unfairly made “scapegoats†for the country’s economic troubles. He said it’s “part of human nature†for newcomers to be shunned, but that prejudice toward outsiders worsens when unemployment is high. He said that illegal immigrants were being scapegoated in a manner similar to Jews in Nazi Germany because of tough economic times.
“When things go badly, individuals look for scapegoats,†he said.
“I just do not believe that barbed-wire fences or guns on our border will solve any of our problems,†he added.
I actually heard that last part on the radio during a newsbreak yesterday. And lest you think this is the Politico making things up with the Nazi reference, the same is reported in many outlets, including here and here. He also whines about requiring immigrants to carry any ID. I guess in Ron Paul’s world, I have no need to carry my drivers license, and can refuse to show ID for anything. He also said the nation “overreacted” to the events of Sept. 11, 2001, as far as immigration goes, and that there is too much red tape for immigrants and others to contend with. He does not favor issuing national identification cards, either, he said.
Yes, there is too much red tape for legal immigration, but, this highlights yet another case where Ron is saying the US overreacted to 9/11. This all adds up to more reasons why Ron should simply go away, and there is no way he could ever be POTUS. Conservatives might hold their noses and vote for Romney, Newt, or Santorum (less so with Santorum), but they will simply avoid voting for Paul. He’s as dangerous for America as Obama is.
I don’t know if you are aware of the background on this, but let me point out the logic.
Paul, and I, and many others feel that one of the major problems with the US is the cost of labor. That makes our product too expensive in any market. So we have to use cheap labor elsewhere. That means that we really are poor in major production.
Now, how do you decrease the cost of labor? You do so by increasing the number of people available for work. Thus, open immigration. Enter our great government to screw this up. We have a minimum wage that set the bar too high for labor. Realize that salaries and other hourly work are idex off the minimum wage. Then we have a large number of social laws and benefits that allow people to live without working. Then we have labor unions that set the bar even higher. So in a better governmental atmosphere, his statements would make perfect sense.That is what he wants, to change the way we do business.
I’m not arguing against opening up legal immigration, David, in fact, i have argued for expanding migrant and temporary work visas. I have no problem with that, nor do most conservatives. The companies that employ them should be responsible for providing health insurance and other benefits that keep the temporary workers off the public dole.
But, all that doesn’t deflect from Paul basically calling conservatives Nazis.
Allowing Illegal ignorants to flow into the U.S is not going to drive prices down. Because the moment they hit the shores they go to work for minimum wage which is 5x’s higher then China and other places that make everything on the cheap.
Then we are forced to take care of them thru public assets such as schools and emmergency room care which further drives up the costs.
The argument is mundane but the Democratic party under JFK….YOUR DADDIES Democratic party had quota’s to deal with immigration.
Now suddenly we believe that letting millions of mexicans slip over the border is going to help us compete on a global scale and it is not.
Just recently I found out that my APPLE I PHONE is made in China…..I threw both of them away. Literally threw them in the trash and bought and HTC……..no just kidding….HTC is made in china too.
At least Samsung is made in a capitalist country by capitalists who are friendly to the USA and have a decent trade relations with the USA.
ergo the point…..cheap mexicans are not going to drive prices down or keep them down…..
But what they are going to do is assimilate the USA into a cultural Iraq where ultimately you end up with Sunnis and Shia’s killing each other over domination.
Look at the entire Geography south of the border….ignorant and backwards and incapable of anything other then drug wars and peasant farming and we want millions and millions and millions of these peasant to flood our shores.
NO. We don’t….and mine is the predominant conservative position. I am all for quota immigration to keep the numbers down.
But let me tell you WHY politicians on BOTH sides of the isle want the borders open and Mexicans flooding into the country.
THE ECONOMY……..if we are expanding or growing population fast enough it means we continue to expand our economy and keep the unemployment rate low.
We are seeing the results of this right now in a bad economy and poor unemployment as states take up immigration laws…..fences are being built along the border and the nation as a whole is making it unfavorable for 1000’s of illegals to slip into the country daily.
Put simply our entire economy is on a poorly build sandy fence and illegal immigration the last 3 decades has kept it from tanking.
So we have a choice…..a rational economic policy or a flood of instant consumers. I know what most people choose but in the long run that just fails all of us……..bad.

In Washington state, the feds ran the illegals off just before the fruit harvest. The apple growers offered to pay minimum wage for anyone to pick apples and only a few showed up. They appealed to college students, moms and such. When the growers started advertising $15-20 an hour to pick, then all sorts of people showed up to pick apples.
In Colorado when the feds ran the illegals off, the farmers in Eastern Colorado petitioned the legislature to allow convicts to work the fields. They said that convicts were more expensive than illegals but not as expensive as hiring regular people to do farm work.
In the late 50’s and 60’s Washington state ran busses from the California/Mexican border to Washington state for illegals and other workers so that they could be employed in Washington fields and orchards.
Today, illegals pay huge amounts of money for coyotes to move them across the border to areas they can work. Where does someone from Honduras or El Salvador get $8 – 10,000 to pay the coyote?
Our government is causing the illegal problem and is milking it for all the political play that it is worth.
Romney, Gingrich and Santorum will only continue this farce of illegal immigration helped by the US and state governments. Paul is the only candidate who will stop the madness.
