Selective outrage

This hits home:

Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s kleptocrat strongman, destroyed a mosque the other day. It was in Hatcliffe Extension, a shantytown on the edge of Harare, razed by the "police." Mr. Mugabe is an equal-opportunity razer: He also bulldozed a Catholic-run Aids center.

Hmm. Why wasn’t this front page news in the Left leaning MSM’s?

The point is the world’s Muslims seem entirely cool with Infidel Bob razing a mosque. Unlike the fallout over Newsweek’s fraudulent story about the Koran being flushed down a toilet, no excitable young men went bananas in Pakistan; no Western progressives berated Mr. Mugabe for his "cultural insensitivity." And sadly most of the big-shot Muslim spokespersons were still too busy flaying the Bush administration to whip their subjects into a frenzy over Hatcliffe Extension’s pile of Islamic rubble.

You tell ’em, Mr. Steyn. Check my archives for this category, and you will see this is nothing new. Desecration of icons, religious or otherwise, seems to be just fine as long as it isn’t the US doing it, which was, of course, made up.

Suspected Suicide Bomber Kills 4 GI’s

Folks, you just cannot make this stuff up:

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – A suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives in his car near a U.S. military vehicle Monday in southern Afghanistan, wounding four Americans in the latest assault on coalition forces, a U.S. military spokesman said.

Suspected. Was he in the car? Yes? Then he is no longer suspected. Not quite sure what world Noor Khan (the writer) is living in, but it is probably the same as the rest of the "reality based community."

And the 4 GI’s killed per the headline? That same paragraph refutes the headline, and furthermore

He (General Salim Khan) said at least three American troops were killed, but the U.S. military said no U.S. troops had died.

Read the rest of the article. NOWHERE does it state that 4 US soldiers died, except the headline.

Burning the Flag

Koran? Screw the Koran. Michelle Malkin highlights another case of desecration of the American Flag.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Will we see this highlighted at CNN, MSNBC, The New York Time, or Washington Post? Bet the answer would be no.

Conyers is on a roll

But not the Conyers you are thinking of.

A Knightdale (North Carolina) grandmother has won her first battle against sexually explicit material on the internet. Mary Conyers has been trying for four years to force adult websites to change their web addresses from ".com" to ".xxx".

Just this month, the company in charge of web addresses announced it will provide a ".xxx" domain.

Good for her. I don’t think I have to explain why, do I?

Best of The Tick

Image hosting by Photobucket In honor of The Tick being on Toon Disney at 11pm, starting Monday, June 13, I bring you some of The Ticks best quotes

  • “And so, may evil beware and may good dress warmly and eat lots of fresh vegetables.”
  • “Life is a big wild crazy tossed salad, but you don’t eat it, no sir! You live it!”
  • “You know Arthur, it’s really been quite a day. On the outside, on the surface, oh sure, we were pursued by Swiss industrial spies, trapped in the belly of a whale. But what really pursued us? Where were we really trapped? C’mon Arthur! Get Meta with me! What pursued us were our own obsessions. I’m good, you’re evil. I’m a super hero, you’re a sidekick. I’m a woman, you’re a man. What does it all mean? Nothing! And where were we all trapped? I’ll tell you where Arthur! In the belly of love, love chum… LOVE.”
  • “Lab rat for your thoughts?”
  • “Gravity is a harsh mistress.”
  • “When evil’s afoot, and you don’t have any arms, you’ve got to do a little leg work. And when evil’s ahead, and you’re a little behind, you’ve got to stay hip. You’ve got to keep on your toes! You’ve got to kick a little–“
  • TV Reporter: Can you blow up the Earth? The Tick: Egad! I hope not! That’s where I keep all my stuff!
  • “Oh, I get it, spelling America with a ‘K’, are we?”
  • “Let’s just see how you fare against two bits of flat, shiny America!”
  • “Rugged, self-assured, adult. These are the words that describe the man who wears a mustache. Yes, it says to the world, ‘I’m a man of action!’ Ah, but action tempered with maturity. Like a fireman… or somebody’s dad! Y’know, most of your world leaders have mustaches!”
  • “So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.”
  • “Got to pull myself together… must defy laws of physics.”
  • “Aha, yes, I see… a choreographic conundrum. Whoa, well that was a little dancey. You know why super villains are so unhappy, Arthur? They don’t treasure the little things.”
  • “Hey! You in the pumps! I say to you, ‘Stop being bad!'”
  • “Roof-pig! Most unexpected.”
  • “Their Achilles’ heel is the noogie!”
  • “Eating kittens is just plain… plain wrong! And no one should do it, ever!”
  • “So the cosmic circus moves along, its tiniest clown gone to rejoin it once again.”
  • “This is one small step for The Tick, and one giant step for… say, a little bug. Or some guy who’s been shrunk to the size of a penny.”
  • “Don’t ever try to swim against the might tide of justice.”
  • “Y’know, evil comes in many forms, whether it be a man-eating cow or Joseph Stalin, but you can’t let the package hide the pudding! Evil is just plain bad! You don’t cotton to it. You gotta smack it in the nose with the rolled-up newspapaer of justice! Bad dog! Bad dog! And you don’t do it for money. No! You do it for love! You know, I’ve learned something this week… on justice and on friendship, there is no price. But there are established credit limits.”
  • “Let’s hang ten for justice!”
  • “Honk if you love justice.”
  • “Villains, I say to you now… knock off all that evil!”

And the number one saying: “Spooooooon!”

Sorta Blogless Sunday Pinup

Flag Day is Tuesday, 6/14. It was first celebrated in 1877, which was the 100th Anniversary of our Flag, hence the cutie pie with the 37 Star Flag.

The Pledge of Allegience was first said in 1892, the 400th Anniversary of Columbus discovering America.

Woodrow Wilson established Flag Day as a national celebration in 1916. Congress officially recognized Flag Day by passing the National Flag Day Bill in 1949, during President Harry Truman’s administration.

On North Korea: Missing the point

With a common voice and conciliatory words, President Bush and South Korean President Roh Moo Hyun expressed hope Friday that they can diplomatically persuade North Korea to forfeit its nuclear weaponry.

During this whole issue, which goes back into the early 90’s, I think that everyone is missing the point. Just like with guns, it is not the weapons that are dangerous, but those who wield them. A gun that is properly secured by a responsible citizen is rarely a danger. A nuclear weapon, properly secured by responsible government is rarely a danger.

What is the danger here? It is not the nuclear weapons and material, but the madman who runs the cult of personality country known as North Korea. Kim Jong Il.
