UK Wants People To Not Use Energy During Solar Eclipse

It’s shocking that solar energy doesn’t work when the sun is not out

That article is behind a serious paywall, but, it is reproduced here

Octopus Energy has urged its customers to avoid using electricity during the deepest solar eclipse in almost 30 years.

Britain’s biggest household energy supplier has warned people not to use washing machines, dishwashers, and other plug-in devices between 6pm and 8pm on Wednesday.

The eclipse is expected to block up to 95% of sunlight as the moon moves the sun, plunging solar generation across the UK.

It comes as countless Britons will be looking to run air conditioning units, fans, and refrigerators amid the latest forecast heatwave.

The slump in solar power could knock out as much as 1.3GW of supply, according to the National Energy System Operator (NESO).

Wow, it’s almost like solar is unreliable. Here’s where it gets really fun

This means gas-fired power plants will have to be switched on to make up for the shortfall and to steady the grid.

No Teach you are again misstating what they said .
Octopus energy is not asking them to stop using energy. They asked customers to reduce energy use for 2 hiurs.
The next deep solar eclipse is due to reduce solar electric generation in the UK in the year 2050.

Do remember! Reduce optional electric use force hours when that happens again!

I like the fact that they are worried about a heat wave pushing Britons to use the air conditioners most don’t have.

During my six too-short days in Genéve, it was hot. I saw a few smaller shops using these portable AC units, even though the Eurowienies were only seeing temperatures in the mid-nineties. For us Kentuckians, it was a normal summer day!

Mrs Pico said that when she got back to Berlin, where there is little air conditioning, temperatures did drop back to normal 52.5º north latitude temperatures. Berlin is at about the same latitude as the southern border of Labrador!
