Immigrant advocates push for protections at FIFA World Cup event in Philadelphia
Immigrant advocates and members of Philadelphia City Council gathered outside City Hall on Wednesday to call for stronger protections for undocumented and mixed-status families.
The Pennsylvania Immigrant Coalition said its goal is to ensure residents understand their rights, especially those who may fear potential immigration enforcement at large gatherings.
“If we wait until ICE shows up at a watch party it’s already too late,” said Council Minority Leader Kendra Brooks.
Organizers urged restaurants, block party hosts and even FIFA Fan Fest planners to take steps that make attendees feel safe.
Do they even understand what ICE would be doing in Philly during FIFA, along with the other cities?
In a video posted online, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said federal efforts during the World Cup will focus on counterfeit tickets and merchandise, human trafficking and drug smuggling.
He did not specifically address immigration enforcement.

Finally, a “feel-good” story involving ICE!!
ICE permitted deported Wendy Hernandez Reyes to return to the United States to be re-united with her 3 year old son Orlin, a U.S. citizen.
Ms Reyes was deported to Honduras in January of this year after being detained by ICE following a “traffic stop” in Alabama. She requested that her little boy Orlin be deported with her but ICE refused. Reyes and her sister were gone within a month. Fortunately, Orlin and his three cousins were put in the custody of Hernandez’s sister’s estranged partner, Samuel Maldonado, who “allededly” gave Orlin multiple broken bones, signs of sexual abuse, burns and head injuries. Orlin died and Maldonado has been charged with murder.
ICE, showing it DOES had a heart, permitted Ms Reyes to return for Orlin’s funeral. She was wearing an ankle monitor. ICE further allowed her to stay for 3 days to bury her tortured and murdered little boy.
Acting ICE cocksucker Todd Lyons claimed in March that Hernandez had “abandoned” her son to a “violent murderer” who killed him weeks later. It was Lyons who instituted the “no warrant” invasions of homes by ICE. He announced he would leave ICE by last week. Cocksucker Lyons had been hospitalized at least twice in 2026 for stress-related issues.
To their credit, trump/ICE/Miller/Noem-Markwayne have “only” separated about 100,000 children from at least one parent. FAFO, right?
Nothing in federal law requires ICE — or any other agency — to check in with a child’s caregiver after detaining their parents.
Maybe Donny Cocksuker could sign another EO requiring Feds to keep track of these kids.
