Modern Socialism Fail: LA Mayor Begs Rich People To Buy Homes For Homeless

What happens when a city becomes a haven for the homeless, protects them, nurtures them? What happens when they’ve invited them, legal residents and illegals? What happens when they’ve overspend their already high budget on initiates, including homeless, and still do not have enough money to deal with the issue?

LA Mayor pleads for wealthy to help buy housing for the homeless: ‘Unprecedented partnership’

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass pleaded with “the most fortunate” to help fund housing for the homeless as part of a new strategy to tackle the crisis during her State of the City address on Monday.

“We will not hide people but what we will do is house people,” the Democratic leader touted as she began her remarks on the city’s struggle to house over 40,000 homeless people. “The crisis on our streets is nothing less than a disaster.”

Bass touted the success of her signature Inside Safe program, which moved over 21,000 homeless people into temporary shelters, according to The Associated Press. She insisted this “strategy” and “system” moving the homeless into temporary housing would eventually end the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles.

Acknowledging the costliness of this endeavor, Bass asked the wealthy to help “speed up” housing purchases for the homeless.

“Right now, we’re working to move past nightly rentals,” she continued. “We are asking the most fortunate Angelenos to participate in this effort, with personal, private sector and philanthropic funds – to help us acquire more properties, lower the cost of capital and speed up housing.”

“This is the mission of our new capital campaign, LA4LA.”

In 2023, Bass allotted $1.3 billion for the homeless in her budget proposal. The city is spending billions and billions each year, to go with all the money the state is spending. And they were spending an eye popping $837K per person to house them in 2022. Even with the cost of real estate and homes in California this is nuts. So, now the city turns to begging the “most fortunate”…how soon till these Modern Socialists say that anyone who has housing is “most fortunate”?….to fund the issue that the Democrats have caused. And, how many of these “most fortunate” have voted for the Modern Socialist initiatives which helped create the outsized homeless issue? Of course, how many have abandoned the city due to crazy policies?

Taking care of all the homeless, and giving them homes, will simply entice more homeless to come to LA, especially when the city mostly goes easy on them. Anyhow, have fun, because you know the city will soon look for ways to force the “most fortunate” to fund this.

How long before she ceases ‘pleading’ with the ‘most fortunate,’ and tries to force them to do so, by taxing them more to house the wastrels, the mentally ill, and the junkies?

    • h says:

14% of the homeless are vets
      5% are children
Apparently Teach feels that helping them will only increase the number in those groups who want to be homeless.
It costs about 50k to put people with mental health issues in a hospital. Certainly much cheaper to provide some type of housing

In reality LA should just put a housing tax on their people. Everybody who owns a house should have to pay $10,000 a year toward housing somebody else. If they move the tax follows them for five years or $50,000 can be taken out of the proceeds of the sale of their house. And house sales and transfers should be charged $50,000 each toward housing the poor.

Spell time the rich and these rich blue cities and states should start paying their fair share. If they’ve been paying their fair share there wouldn’t be a housing problem. When an estate is probated valued over $400,000 an additional 30% should be also taken for housing the poor. I’m tired of these rich guys in LA not paying their fair share.

Sorry hell since the demographic has slowly switched to the Democrats being the party of the rich you don’t hear Democrats around screaming pay your fair share anymore except for AOC who’s a brain dead communist anyway.

    14% of homeless are veterans.
Cami has a population of 34,000,000 about 1 out of 200are homeless
    5% sre children
    14% are veterans
Apparently Teach feels that if help is given than these 2 groups might increase or even “skyrocket” in numbers.
Meany of the rest suffer from mental illness, for which hospitalization would cost $50,000. Stress from poverty/homelessness surely increases their mental health issuses

    • Professor Hale says:

Now do how many of them have cats and the percentage of them who get regular Vet visits.

    • CarolAnn says:

If the rich Democrats in these states would start paying their fair share that would cover the 14% of homeless veterans. When you say 5% are children I don’t know what you’re trying to indicate cause they’ll be with adults so if we have the adults we’re housing the children. Now we could put an additional $5000 per rich Democrat tax on just to cover children I would go for that. Should I have mental health issues but stress from poverty and homelessness increases their mental health issues? Then I think Democrats should have to pay an additional $10,000 per year to cover mental health issues for the unhoused.

And all those rich Democrats should have to give back all the taxes that trump gave them in his tax cuts for the rich.

LOL! Property taxes in Los Angeles County are 1.25% of the purchase price, so if someone buys a home for $960,000, the current median home sale price in Los Angeles, he’s already paying $12,000 a year in property tax!

    • CarolAnn says:

I meant in addition to whatever their normal property taxes were. I assumed you guys would understand that. I’m taking Democrat lessons there is no replacement tax it’s in addition to.

And what would this initiative look like 10 years down the road? Much like the urban projects that end up being destroyed by their tenants only to be rebuilt and destroyed again? Yeah, no.

  6. h says:

The current property tax of1.6% generates 20 billion in revenue for the city
If 1 billion of that were used for renting housing for homeless each of the 40,000 would receive 25.000

    • Jl says:

Johnny-why not just have them go across the border to Mexico and sneak back in pretending they’re asylum seekers? Aren’t they handing out checks to illegals?

  7. Dana says:

My property taxes in the Bluegrass State are extremely low, but I am appalled by the idea of a property tax at all. Property taxes are, in the end, the government telling you that you don’t really own what you think you own, but that you are simply renting it from the state.

Cali welfare only gives 100 cash for single men
    Plus EBT
How much did you think they would get? Were you misinformed ?
