Biden To Impose “Crushing” Sanctions On Russia Again

I mean, well, OK, but, I thought the previous round of sanctions was meant to crush Russia and drive them out of Ukraine?

US imposes ‘crushing’ sanctions on Russia 2 years after Ukraine invasion

The U.S. has announced more than 500 sanctions on Russia, its enablers, and its war machine on Friday as the world marks two years since Russia attacked Ukraine.

This is the largest single tranche since the start of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion, administration officials said.

“Today, I am announcing more than 500 new sanctions against Russia for its ongoing war of conquest on Ukraine and for the death of Aleksey Navalny, who was a courageous anti-corruption activist and Putin’s fiercest opposition leader,” President Joe Biden said in the statement released by the White House. “These sanctions will target individuals connected to Navalny’s imprisonment as well as Russia’s financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks and sanctions evaders across multiple continents. They will ensure Putin pays an even steeper price for his aggression abroad and repression at home.”

“We are also imposing new export restrictions on nearly 100 entities for providing backdoor support for Russia’s war machine,” Biden continued. “We are taking action to further reduce Russia’s energy revenues. And I’ve directed my team to strengthen support for civil society, independent media, and those who fight for democracy around the world.”

I have to wonder, as no article mentions it, does “strengthen support” mean giving taxpayer money to them? And, will new sanctions actually work?

Throughout Russia’s war on Ukraine, the U.S. has sought to weaken Moscow’s military by targeting its economy — limiting its ability to import key technology to fuel its defense-industrial complex, reduce the value of its exports, and cut Russia off from the international banking system.

Despite the historic effort, Russia’s economy has grown over the last two years due in part to the country’s steady trade with partners like China and India. The Kremlin has also managed to keep its arsenals stocked, resorting to sourcing some weapons from Iran and North Korea — two countries that are also heavily sanctioned by the West.

Will these sanction hurt China and India? Because unless they restrict trade with them, and other nations in the Middle East and Africa, especially on oil, it won’t make a difference. And, if these are so important, why didn’t they do this before?

“History is watching. The failure to support Ukraine at this critical moment will not be forgotten,” said Joe Biden on Friday. “Now is the time for us to stand strong with Ukraine and stand united with our Allies and partners. Now is the time to prove that the United States stands up for freedom and bows down to no one.”

Huh what? The above ABC News article was published at 7:51pm on Thursday. How did he say that Friday? Unless it was some press release ABC is portraying as Biden speaking coherently, particularly since he was flying back from fundraising in California after the article was published…that doesn’t make sense.

If Biden really wants to hurt Russia, open up our oil and natural gas and start shipping it around the world, reducing the value of Russia fossil fuels. But, none of this will get Russia out of Ukraine. Which never would have happened if Biden hadn’t been so weak to start with.

Teach has gone squishy on defense.
I wonder if he now thinks it was wrong for Churchill to stand up to Hitler? Do you really think it is better to give the bulky your munch money in exchange for “peace” ? Teach was 100% in favor of going to eat against Iraq. Should we also allow the Houthis to do whatever they want ?

The sanctions do work. Both China and india can buy oil, but they are buying it at a discount price because Russia has no other customers. If there was a complete embargo on Russian the oil shortage would “skyrocket” the price to $125 to $150. The oil embargo against Russia keeps the world oil price low by limiting its customers to only 2, the customers can dictate aow price for buying Putins oil. We in USA would see
gas at 5 bucks. Is that what you want?
    Class is over.

    Mr Teach:

open up our oil and natural gas and start shipping it around the world

Just more evidence that Mr Teach doesn’t understand and suffers from severe Biden Derangement Syndrome. So much disinformation, so little time.

Investing in Ukraine’s defense is at the rogue Putin’s expense, but benefits Europe, the US and the rest of the civilized world. US materiel is made in America by American workers. It’s necessary that we redistribute taxes to American workers to help thwart Putin’s ambitions. European nations are helping Ukraine spending relatively more than we are. Donald Trump wants Ukraine to fall to Russia. What is wrong with Trump?

US oil is expensive to recover compared to OPEC+ nations and yet US oil production has never been higher than now! It IS shipped around the world. Way to guide the ship of state President Biden!!

OPEC+ could flood the market tomorrow and US producers would shut down as oil prices dropped. It’s one reason US presidents give back rubs to Saudi leaders to keep oil prices “stable”.

Teach continues cheerleading for Putin. Is Mr Teach suggesting that the US put sanctions on China and India to punish them for buying Russian oil??

Why do Trumpublicans only love America when Trump is president?

    John,
Churchill stood up to Hitler? That is what you read in grade school. Now if you read books on the subject, you will find that Hitler was going against the dictates following WWI. They were horrible dictates and assured that another war would be necessary. England and France shoved these down the German people’s throat. France and England declared war on Germany with the invasion of Poland, ever notice that Poland was not free and remained occupied for decades after the war. England was totally defeated by the time Churchill came into power. They did fight a minor action in Africa. But Churchill was trying to get a dialogue going with the Italians to surrender, FDR stopped that and assured Churchill that the US would soon be in the war as soon as the Japs attacked, something he pushed. But even then, the war was between Germany and Russia. That is were 90% of the casualties occurred. Churchill was good with speedes, that is all.

      ivan,

That’s the biggest pot of mush ever. WWII was the fault of Poland, Churchill and FDR. Got it.

        Jeff,
Once again I do not care for your responding to my comments, even with a very stupid statement. Remember, you threaten to sue all of us, so leave us alone.

    • h says:

Churchill came into power early May 1940. That was BEFORE Germany and Russia went to war in June of 1940. David, of course you are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own “facts” Apparently David thinks that Germany was already defeated BEFORE the war with Russia had even begun.

      • david7134 says:

        John,
WWII started in 1939 when England and France declared war on Germany for taking possession of their portion of Poland, 2 weeks later Russia invaded their portion of Poland. The war in the west was effectively over in the spring of 1940 with France overrun and England going back to their island, defeated.Churchill came in after or during Dunkirk.Germany then attacked Russia in 1941. Which was good as Stalin was desiring to attack in 1944.

John, if you are unaware of history then smoke your dope and don’t act like you know something.

        • Facts Matter says:

I was on Twitter or X a couple of days ago and some clown said Trump claims Russia defeated Hitler. He then went on to blast Trump for being an Idiot. Everyone knows the USA defeated Hitler he claimed smugly.

I pointed out to the man, that Russia was fighting door to door in Berlin the day Hitler took poison and blew his brains out. I’m pretty sure Russia had something to do with defeating Hitler. Had the Nazis defeated Russia the war might have lasted until both Germany and the USA Nuked each other into oblivion since Germany was also working on a nuclear weapon by the end of the war despite a two-front war and their allies of Italy having surrendered and Japan on the verge of defeat as well.

So even though Russia(their government and not so much their people) was evil, it is certainly a good thing they were our ally during WW2 and had a huge role in not only sparing the West of massive casualties but in fielding the largest army during WW2.

New sanctions on the world’s biggest terrorist sponsoring nation, Iran? Not so much

    • h says:

How embarrassing for you to post things like this? Yesterday Biden did announce new sanctions against Iran yesterday.
The sanctions against Iran are working, especially because sanctions against Iran’s oil sector restrict oil production, That keeps the price of oil high. Increasing Iran oil production might decrease the world market price by 10%. Of course profits go up when supplies go down which is good for our “elites” Sanctions have had no effect on the foreign policies of Iran.

  6. h says:

David your defense of Hitler was AWESOME! Can you also perhaps sway us to the fact the the Holocaust was a hoax? or that if not a hoax was justified?

    • david7134 says:

      John,
Exactly how did I defend Hitler. I elaborated on facts that are not included in grade school propaganda. Then the Holocaust? What does that have to do with my statements. My Jewish friends are actually afraid of people like you, despite being lifelong liberals.

But if you desire some facts. The allies were well aware of the concentration camps and knew of the horror. But did absolutely nothing to intervene. If you read White Smoke, you will find that all principal leaders hated Jews. Yes, FDR and Churchill made clear statements to that effect, wonder if this had something to do with their attitudes.
I find your repulsive responses to be very uneducated and superfluous.
