Climate Cult Desperately Trying To Make Category 6 Hurricanes A Thing

This was pretty much in the realm of fiction previously. I remember reading a disaster book a long time ago about how technology caused the weather to get out of control and hurricanes were merging to become super-hurricanes. It’s still in the realm of fiction

‘Category 5’ was considered the worst hurricane. There’s something scarier, study says.

As fearsome as Category 5 hurricanes can be for people living in harm’s way, a new study reports global warming is supercharging some of the most intense cyclones with winds high enough to merit a hypothetical Category 6.

The world’s most intense hurricanes are growing even more intense, fueled by rising temperatures in the ocean and atmosphere, according to the study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. And, the authors say, a Category 5 on the traditional wind scale underestimates their dangers.

“As a cautious scientist, you never want to cry wolf,” said Michael Wehner, co-author and climate scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. But after searching for the signature of climate change in the world’s most intense cyclones, Wehner said he and co-author Jim Kossin found “the wolf is here.”

But, they’re crying wolf, because they’ve become cult scientists.

They used a hypothetical Category 6, with a minimum threshold of 192 mph, to study hurricanes that have occurred in the modern satellite era, since around 1980. They found five hurricanes and typhoons that would have met the criteria and all five occurred within the last decade.

To be clear, they aren’t proposing adding that category to the National Hurricane Center’s wind scale, which experts say would require a lengthy process and many partners. But they are hoping to “inform broader discussions about how to better communicate risk in a warming world,” Kossin told USA TODAY.

Except, from what I’ve been able to determine, they’re discussing wind gusts, not continuous wind speed. Tropical systems are categorized by the wind speed over one minute at 10 meters above ground/sea level. Not gusts. And we’ve seen the Warmists equate gusts with storm size, not measuring at the right height or using the 1 minute threshold. It gets better

They found the chances of that potential intensity occurring in such storms have more than doubled since 1979. They say the areas where the growing risks of these storms are of greatest concern are the Gulf of Mexico, the Philippines, parts of Southeast Asia and Australia.

1979. The satellite era. We don’t know about anything previously. Nor do we have specific measurements from during the Little Ice Age. What if they were worse during Holocene cool periods? We don’t know. We have no reference. There is no control sources. Do we know the specifics on, say, the Great Galveston Hurricane of 1900? This is all just cult scaremongering.

    Mr Dana should sue!

“Significantly increasing” temperatures, fueled by greenhouse gas emissions, up the energy available to the most intense tropical cyclones, reported Wehner and Kossin, a retired federal scientist and science advisor at the nonprofit First Street Foundation.

They used a hypothetical Category 6, with a minimum threshold of 192 mph, to study hurricanes that have occurred in the modern satellite era, since around 1980. They found five hurricanes and typhoons that would have met the criteria and all five occurred within the last decade.

Big deal, right? There is no rock solid, absolute, beyond reproach, PROOF that a 50% increase in CO2 contributes to more intense hurricanes! Correlation does not PROVE causation!

      Chicken Little Man

      ….. hypothetical Category 6,…..

hypothetical: supposed but not necessarily real or true.

If bullshit was a brass band you would lead the parade.

God has and will again send extra strong hurricanes if he is pissed for any reason. This is what many OF the climate change deniers believe.
They also believe that Jesus hates all migrants, even baby migrants.

    • Jl says:

“A 50% increase in CO2..” Of course the more accurate way to portray it would be the percentage of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased from 0.03% to 0.04%, and there’s been no statistical increase in hurricane strength. Other than that-very scary!

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

Atmospheric CO2 has increased from 280 ppm to 420 ppm and is still increasing. That sure seems like a 50% increase – and accurate to boot.

To make your expression more accurate you would type 0.028% to 0.042%.

Several studies show that hurricanes/typhoons have become stronger over the past 20 yrs or so. As predicted.

        • Jl says:

Nope-and if it increased from 100ppm to 200ppm, that would be a 100% increase, so we’re all doomed? No. Every time it increases
just 1ppm it’s a 50% increase from some prior amount, but really isn’t telling you much.
“Several studies show hurricanes stronger over past 20 years, as predicted”. Not quite-the prediction was stronger hurricanes due to a 1.5 degree temp increase. That, of course, hasn’t been validated, just asserted. Tornado strength and numbers show no statistical increase, opposite as predicted

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

You have no idea what you’re talking about. The only time a 1 ppm increase is a 50% increase if the starting level is 2 ppm. You see, 50% of 2 ppm is 1 ppm. Understand?

If it doubled (that is increased 100%) from 280 ppm it would be 560 ppm.

    • James Lewis says:

I realize you are trying to be sarcastic but you need to understand that you are too stupid to make it work.

Now, call all your friends, both of’em, and ask how much their grocery bills have increased.

  3. Dana says:

I’m far more worried about a Sharknado!

  4. Dana says:

So, what is a Category 5 hurricane?

Winds 157 mph or higher (137 kt or higher or 252 km/hr or higher). Catastrophic damage will occur: A high percentage of framed homes will be destroyed, with total roof failure and wall collapse. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. Power outages will last for weeks to possibly months. Most of the area will be uninhabitable for weeks or months. The Keys Hurricane of 1935 and Andrew of 1992 made landfall in South Florida as Category Five hurricanes.

So, what damage is beyond “catastrophic”? Super-catastrophic, perhaps? Even super-duper catastrophic? Hiroshima catastrophic? `Maybe most of the area will be uninhabitable for years, decades perhaps?

    • Elwood P. Dowd says:

I imagine that 200 mph winds are more damaging than 157 mph winds. Perhaps it flattens 200 houses instead of just 157. Perhaps it causes a 20 ft storm surge instead of 15.7 ft.

In mid-Amurrica we worry little about hurricanes or sharknados. Here, tornados and flooding are the bigger problems.

  5. Jl says:

    100ppm to 200ppm is a 100% increase. 100$ to 200$ is a 100% increase, which is what I said.
Then I mentioned it’s always a 50% increase from some prior amount. When CO2 went from 246ppm to 370ppm, for instance-which at some time it did, that’s also a 50% increase. That’s why I said percentages can be very deceiving-it all depends on the starting number

  6. Doom and Gloom says:

Yes, deaths rose 400 percent in 11 months of 2023 due to unexpected heart attacks in the age group of 18-49. This according to the mortality tables issued by the US insurance industry and verified by three Military doctors using the DOD’s data base of deaths.

Now that is not one death to four deaths which would be a laughable percentage, but rather it was 34,000 deaths to over 128,000 deaths in just one year.

WHY? Covid? Or Covid vaccines? The Drug companies, FDA, and the CDC are all trying to bury this story and for the most part, they are succeeding. Anyone who takes another booster is insane because several countries including Scandinavia and the UK have stated that the latest booster only provides minimal protection for three months and AFTER THOSE THREE MONTHS DEATHS INCREASED VS the previous booster.

In other words, COVID has become a money maker for not only the CORPS making them but the INVESTORS INVESTING IN THESE CORPS. ITS JUST LIKE WAR!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead of the MIC it is now the PHARMA INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX that is killing more people than wars normally kill since 70 percent of the world has been vaccinated now.

Your choice to detox your body? Melatonin, NAC(which is extremely safe, affordable, and over the counter now with almost no side effects) Curcumin, and Quercetin sp. Cook with curcumin and quercetin is found in green onions. These sho the ability to kill up to 20 percent of the spike proteins floating in your blood stream.

A new drug is on the way called Augmented NAC which is shown to kill 99 percent of spike proteins in your blood. Funny how the drug companies are poisoning you and then selling you the antidote
