The Biden DOJ (and Trump appointed US Attorney David Weiss) charged Hunter Biden on two tax charges and a firearm possession charge where Biden kept a pistol “despite knowing he was an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance.”
Hunter Biden will plead guilty to the tax charges (he paid $100,000 in back taxes in 2022) and will accept a ‘plea deal’ on the weapons charge.
The tax charges carry a potential 12 mo sentence and the firearms possession charge up to ten years. The Trump-appointed US Attorney is expected to recommend probation.
Said Rep. James Comer, the Kentucky Republican who is chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, “These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation. We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes are revealed.”
And from Donald J. Trump: “The corrupt Biden DOJ [Department of Justice] just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket’. ”
Despite the braying of Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans, this development does NOT preclude future corruption or bribery charges against Hunter or President Biden.
Of course, as Mr Trump well knows, the DOJ policy is NOT to indict a sitting President but to wait for Congress to impeach and convict them.
Also, Mr Trump knows the so-called ‘two-tiered’ justice system applies to him as well. Although he stole classified documents and showed them to individuals without security clearance, he would have received a pat on the head and a cookie if he had just turned over the documents when asked. Weird. USAF veteran Reality Winner stole a single classified document and gave it conservative darling Glenn Greenwald and received over 5 years in prison. In which ‘tier’ does Ms Winner reside?
