‘A sacred day’: Biden’s July 4th party celebrates end of pandemic, recognize lives lost
As Americans gather to celebrate Independence Day across the country, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden hosted their own party on the South Lawn of the White House.
“Today, we celebrate America. Our freedom, our liberty, our independence. The Fourth of July is a sacred day in our country. A day of history, of hope, remembrance and resolve, of promise and possibilities,†Biden said in remarks ahead of a fireworks display. (except at Mt. Rushmore, since Biden nixed them)
The president struck an optimistic tone, promising that the U.S. is “closer than ever to declaring our independence from a deadly virus†while cautioning that “COVID-19 has not been vanquished.â€
He also highlighted several signs of a return to normalcy, including the reopening of schools, faster than expected economic recovery and resumption of many in-person activities.
Not sure about you, I declared my independence months ago. Joe’s economic recovery includes a spike in the cost of living. As for being sacred, perhaps Joe should talk to his progressive allies who used the day to poop all over America

Toure’ wrote “F*ck America”, and then it got worse. Marvel Comics has Captain America saying the American dream is a lie. Maxine Waters goes off on the Declaration of Independence, NPR calls it racist. The Nation says exceptionalism = racism. The Washington Post says the Statue Of Liberty a symbol of hypocrisy. Those are just a few of the hot takes, all of which forget that in a goodly chunk of countries that are not the USA they’d never be allowed to say and write stuff like this. Their freedom gives the the ability to be a-holes while sleeping under the very freedom the USA provides.
Biden further praised Americans for their individual roles in defeating the coronavirus, which he called “one of the most remarkable achievements in American history,” before urging people to get vaccinated and to see it as a patriotic act.

What Rep Waters said: the Declaration of Independence says all men are created equal. Equal to what? What men? Only white men? Isn’t it something that they wrote this in 1776 when African Americans were enslaved?
Certainly, the Declaration was aspirational, but just as certain it did not apply to enslaved Americans. Does Teach not see the contradiction between the Declaration and reality? The founding of America did NOT include the enslaved as men.

The fact that white Europeans were able to conquer Native Americans, enslave Africans and write both the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution proved the superiority of whites, and importantly, a deserved position of superiority and an absolute right to the accrued advantages and privileges.
On the other hand, a reading of the Declaration and the Constitution could mislead one to believe that the founding fathers actually believed what was written. But if you assume that “all men” means “all white European men”, it makes more sense.
That inferior Black folks such as President Obama and First Lady Michelle could reach the supreme levels of America sticks in the craw of Patriots, who claim they are only successful because superior white Americans “allowed” it. In fact, white nationalists considered President Obama’s success to “affirmative action”, acknowledging that either Blacks are inferior or that social obstacles keep Blacks from success.

I was going to post this until I saw Elwoods posts.
A top medical expert has argued fears of the Delta strain of COVID-19 have been overblown in media reports and assured the public there was no reason to be scared. Professor Monica Gandhi of the University of California, San Francisco stated although the strain has been able to spread faster, its virulence has remained low.
Dr. Gandhi added the Delta variant, which was first identified in India, does not cause more severe illness than any previous strains of COVID-19. She suggested public health officials were creating this dialogue of severe illness from the new strain as a ploy to increase vaccination rates.
Now I am just saddened that Elwood believes the American dream is FREE and there should be no effort involved in reaching it. When I go to the hospital I see almost as many Hispanics, Blacks, Latino’s Asians and others as I do white People serving humanity. \
When I watch sports I see nothing but black men playing the game. When I Watch olympic athletes competing for America in sprints I see nothing but black men and black women. I applaud their efforts. I do not see it as a failure of the system that created their ability to GRASP the AMERICAN DREAM and HOLD IT FOR THEMSELVES.
When I talk to Blacks that own their own stores, restaurants and businesses I do not sense a feeling they have been deprived the chance to pursue the American dream.

No doubt Black Americans have excelled at pursuits open to them, e.g., sports and entertainment, where skill and talent rather than pigment is critical for success. Although I don’t prefer the genres, rap and R&B artists make millions. Black Americans dominated MLB baseball once allowed to play. Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roberto Clemente, Frank Robinson, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Jackie Robinson, Ernie Banks, Derek Jeter, Joe Morgan, Lee Smith, Barry Bonds, Eddie Murray, Tony Gwynn, Rod Carew etc. Same for football and basketball.
No doubt there are Black American entrepreneurs, and white America “permitted” a Black man to be president! But facts are pesky things, and the facts (ya know, data) show that Black Americans have had a much more difficult time reaching the American dream than whites. The consensus of nuCons here is that that fact proves that whites are superior and that Black Americans are stupid, violent and lazy.
Of course America is racist. Of course the right is more racist than the left but we’re all guilty. Maybe it’s only a coincidence that our policies favor the wealthy at the expense of the poor and working classes, and only a coincidence that Black Americans are overrepresented in the poor and working classes. Or it is possible that our society has built-in biases.
Since 1950 knows everything, we’re almost embarrassed to bring this up but we wonder if he’s familiar with the scandalous treatment of Black veterans regarding the GI Bill benefits post WWII? While white veterans were able to access home loans and move to the suburbs, Black veterans were excluded from the home loans necessary by redlining and neighborhood “covenants”.
We know, we know, these outrageous actions by the federal, state and local governments occurred some 70 years ago, and that’s a generation ago, plenty of time for the next generations of Black Americans to rebound and compete directly with white suburban kids.

Of course, I’ve never claimed white people are evil, just that our society has systematically discriminated against non-whites, and even poor and working class whites. Don’t take it personally. Not everyone has had the good fortune, advantages and ability to “know everything” as have you and I.
Please don’t concern yourself with our part of the American dream. It’s not that hard for a healthy, white guy of average intelligence. Our family has been very fortunate with our conservative lifestyle, living within our means, savings etc. And we achieved it without hiding income to avoid paying taxes, making us foolish to trumpists.

The President of the United States was A Black man. currently there is a woman of color as VP of the United States.
The House is full of black representatives. Total Black Americans: 57. Democrats: 55. Republicans: as of 2021. That is 112 out of 435 Since blacks make up 14 percent of the US population that percentage is 1/4 of the US HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IS BLACK.
Schools are full of black teachers. Doctors, Lawyers, Nurses, are Black people. The dream is alive, you just have to go for it. Look at any football team in America. All those SCHOLARSHIPS for athletics is DISPROPORTIONATELY given to black athletes.
I am sorry all of these people had to work to attain their American dream.
