Just an FYI: I see no point in discussing the blamestorming of the current cold snap by all the Warmists yet again, as they manufacture a way to blame Mankind’s CO2 output for creating warmth which creates cold. Even as climate change reaches new and terrifying levels, hope remains — but the time to act is now.
Terrifying to whom? The climate has always changed.
That was the message Professor Daniel M. Kammen brought to a lecture in the Undiscovered Science series at Radcliffe Institute on Monday. Even before he began his talk, “An Energy Plan the Earth Can Live With,†he took a moment to stress the problem’s scope.
“We are at a point where a call for ‘a just transition’ is more accurate than ‘an energy plan,’†said Kammen, the Class of 1935 Distinguished Professor of Energy and chair of the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. “We have to make this great energy transition, but we are moving too slowly.â€
The clock is ticking. Last October, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, issued a statement about the need to hold additional global warming to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius. (Humans have already warmed the planet 1 degree Celsius.) But as emerging economies pursue growth and the Trump administration denies climate change, that objective is growing increasingly elusive.
During his address, Kammen, who has been the coordinating lead author for the IPCC since 1999 and is a professor in the Goldman School of Public Policy and its Department of Nuclear Engineering, not only spoke of the scientific advances that can make such goals achievable, but addressed the social and policy evolution that must go hand in hand with the technology.
So, someone who has a lot at stake in pushing ‘climate change’ doom wants to further scare people into far left politics. Huh.
In America, Kammen said a “Green New Deal†must lead to a “much bigger discussion about equity.†For example, although 16 states have passed laws to enable alternative clean energies, too often these simply focus on subsidizing changes made by homeowners, he said. The efforts also tend to target only one group, viewed as more likely to modify or build for energy efficiency.
“Even when you control for income, solar is 30 percent to 40 percent more prevalent in white/Caucasian-dominated†communities, Kammen said. And since such legislation relies on taxpayer money, in effect it “borrows money from all to pay those who are better off,†he said. The result is alternative energy inequality. Though the laws are well-meaning, they ignore the exponentially higher price communities of color pay in terms of health and wellness because of climate change.
We’ve completely left the realm of science. But, that happened long ago.
I agree that the so-called “skeptics” left the realm of science long ago. Your objections are political not scientific.
Only the hardest of hard-core deni-o-saurs claim that the warming Earth is a communist hoax rather than a real phenomenon driven by greenhouse gases. Scientists understand the seriousness of global warming and that its GLOBAL nature impacts many Earth processes, including polar vortices. It’s warmer in the arctic, Antarctica and Alaska as the drooping polar vortex dumps unusually cold air on the US Midwest and Russia. The GLOBAL mean surface temperature (oceans and atmosphere) continues to climb in fits and starts.

First of all, don’t tell me/us what our objections or opinions are based on. You have a closed mind and nothing will move you from man made global warming. Even science. Which can neither prove nor disprove that “Theory”. You believe in AGW like I believe in God, as a matter of faith.
Only fringe people, none of which post here and none of whom I’ve met in person (have you?) claim the warming earth is a communist hoax. What some are saying is that the communists are using it and you guys who promote it to harm America. You may not agree but it doesn’t make them crazy just perhaps more skeptical than you. So stop treating people like idiots because they don’t agree.
If for once you approached the discussion in a sane way perhaps you could change some minds. My mind was changed on abortion so why not climate? But insults and condescension don’t change minds they make minds solidify. I wouldn’t start a discussion on theology by calling you an ignorant closed minded intolerant shithead atheist now would I? OMG, this shows what a far left social justice creep this guys is. He’s deplorable to use race-baiting in a serious energy issue. Large solar arrays are place in the desert and other large areas of vacant land, mostly in the southwest. Because there is sun and there is vacant land. The demographics of that land are what they are, and have nothing to do with some sort of solar racial injustice. As far as household solar goes, its mostly put on single family homes in sunny areas that can support a large enough array to offset home electricity use. If he wants blacks to have solar, get them to move out of urban areas and into the desert. What an asshole this guy is. Last time I looked, there are a helluva lot of latinos in the southwest deserts and towns, and a helluva lot of latinos, asians, persians, etc in single family homes. Oh and some blacks, too. As far as I’m concerned, the urban blacks without solar are better off because solar and wind drive up regional energy costs and everybody in the area pays for it and the poor are hit the hardest by higher energy rates. (did I just imply urban blacks are poor? OMG racist!).
If this douche wants blacks to have more solar then he should want them out of urban areas. To do that he should support charter schools that can select the best and brightest and fast-track them to a better education out of the terrible public schools. And he should support a border wall and expulsion of illegal immigrants, so that the 50% unemployed urban young men can get farm and service jobs that the latinos have taken. You can drive through farming towns in California’s central valley and not see any white people, and you can see large fields of solar panels. He should support drastic cuts in a welfare system that ties blacks and others to urban centers instead of freeing them to migrate around the country to where the jobs are, like they used to do.
And, this idiot is apparently completely ignorant about who is paying the taxes in this country.
Anyway, I’m not sure that he’s correct about non-whites having a solar energy inequality. All you has to do is drive by any prison these days to see a boondoggle solar energy installation, paid for by taxpayer grants, to provide green energy for the comfort of mostly non-white inmates.
