Karen Castor named to lead restored House panel on climate change
The House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi, has appointed the Florida representative Kathy Castor to lead a special committee on climate change that will be reinstated in the new Congress.
The climate panel is similar to one that Pelosi created when Democrats last controlled the House, from 2007 to 2011. It was eliminated when Republicans took the majority.
Pelosi, the likely House speaker, said Castor brings experience, energy and “urgency to the existential threat of the climate crisis†facing the US and the world. Castor is set to begin her seventh term representing the Tampa Bay area and serves on the energy and commerce committee.
“Congresswoman Castor is a proven champion for public health and green infrastructure, who deeply understands the scope and seriousness of this threat. Her decades of experience in this fight, both in Florida and in the Congress, will be vital,†Pelosi said.
I’ve focused on this issue on this blog for over a decade, and her name never comes up. Oh, and Pelosi made this announcement while in Hawaii, for which she took a long fossil fueled flight, and you can bet it wasn’t commercial.

This is to deal with the existential threat or something. But, hey, this should make Progressives happy, right? Nope
Castor also refused to mandate that all committee members reject political contributions from fossil fuel companies, saying it would violate the First Amendment.
Progressives, including Ocasio-Cortez’s office, already are criticizing the new panel as an insufficient step forward.
“This committee, if it turns out that the rumors about it are true, sounds about as useful as a screen door on a submarine,†said Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez. “As it’s portrayed it’s going to be completely incapable of solving the greatest threat to human kind.â€
He blamed Democratic leaders for not listening to the demands from incoming freshman focused on addressing climate change.
A lot of these far, far, far left nutters are upset.
With the democrats in charge of the house they have two full years to shoot themselves in the foot over and over again. The sad fact(for them) that AGW is at the bottom of the list of worries not only in the USA but around the world does not bode well for them as they rock the boat constantly with outrageous claims and demands of the senate, President and the Right in general not to mention the American people who will have to pay for all of their outrageous proposals.
It is one thing to try and force a fix on health care which was at the top of the voters minds in 2018. The GOP deserved to lose seats in the House given they campaigned on Repealing and Replacing Obamacare and then when they controlled all 3 branches they had no plan, no ideas and no leadership or will to get it done.
The GOP deserves a swift boot in the ARSE. So many corporate shills of the right retired in 2018 and in 2020 more will retire and/or lose their jobs to being primaried or losing the general election to a democrat. By the end of 2020 the GOP will be transformed to something akin to a Democratic lite while the Democrats will continue their transformation to full blown socialists.
So you will still have a more moderate GOP and a fringe leftist Democratic party. Despite what many believe the GOP is being swung to the center not the far right. The MSM and the Democrats are so desperate to paint them as Fringe right when in fact Trump is a moderate and those supporting him are supporting moderate positions.
Evidence.
1. Border wall and security. The Democrats railed on this for two decades. Obama, HRC, BERNIE SANDERS all voted for and were in favor of stronger border security.
Hence a democratic position up until Trump said. Okay here you go. Border security and then presto The corporate never trumpers were aghast and the Democrats said FU mr. Trump we hate you and your border security. A moderate position forcing the left even farther left.
2. Syria and Afghanistan. We have been in those countries up to nearly 17 years. The left has been screaming to pull out of those sheet holes. Trump says okay Democrats. here you go. Were pulling out. The left lost their collective minds. The never trumpers went bonkers. A moderate position forcing the left even farther left.
3. Infrastructure spending. The left for decades has been totally in favor of this. It was their idea. Trump took it and ran with it. The Right embraced it as necessary. Except of course the never trumpers and corporatists who railed against it. The democrats said NO WAY TRUMP. WE hate you. They moved even farther left throwing a ton of conditions and road blocks in the way of infrastructure so it would never get done under Trump. A moderate Democratic ideal now embraced by the right. Forcing the Democrats farther left.
4. DACA. Trump said Okay Democrats. Fix your DACA problem. I’m putting it in your hands. The Democrats refused. Moving farther left and demanding more and more. GOP warmed to the idea slightly. This was another move forcing the democrats farther to the left as their hate for Trump trumped their realization they are being forced into fringe territory.
5. NET Neutrality. This was a stroke of genius by trump. The man is a genius. In this one Trump removed net neutrality and the first thing silicon valley did was implode. Revealing to the world how they were FASCISTS and FRINGE FAR LEFTIST trying to control speech and access. NET NEUTRALITY KEPT THEM IN CHECK. Removing it let the world see just how insanely biased GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND INTAGRAM was. A moderate position forcing the democrats to embrace their silicon valley darlings who have turned out to be fascist thought control fringe far left loons.
In short Trump has exposed the democrats for who and what they are. Its up to the American people to see how dangerous this party has become to freedom and welfare in this nation as they continue to lose their collective minds and move near the edge of rationality.
The Jimmy Dore show, TimCast and others who are moderate SJW progressives have spouted similar views to the above. In fact when you listen to them you would swear they are Republicans except they are calling out their own party for turning insanely left. Trump offers the left what they want and they slap his hand because they have been backed into a corner by their far left supporters. They cannot accept anything that is now considered moderate left.
The right has indeed been pulled more to the center and not pushed farther to the right. In fact their was a chart put out recently by the Leftist progressive think tank and I am sorry I cannot remember their name but it showed how the left has been pushed way farther left since 1980 while the GOP has remained centered and in fact over the last two years their positions have seen them shifting more centrist.
This despite the lefts claim they are all facist, racists ruled by the KKK and the Ayran Nation. Laughable but as the adage goes if you repeat something often enough it becomes the truth. In this case the truth is as the poster above describes it. The left is going more left while the GOP has come back from its edge adopting moderate democratic policy as their own.
