Surprise: UK Government Will “Have To Intervene In Market To Meet Climate Obligations”

It’s almost like the whole ‘climate change’ scare(scam) isn’t about science, but about increasing the size and power of government

UK ‘will have to intervene in market to meet climate obligations’

The UK’s obligations in response to this week’s warnings from the UN over global warming will be controversial and politically fraught, taking the country into “uncharted territory” and testing the political consensus on climate change, its top climate adviser has warned.

The government will have to regulate industry and intervene in the market in ways that will prove controversial in parliament, predicted Chris Stark, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC). He is charged with advising ministers on how swift and how deep cuts in emissions should be and how they can be achieved, and his committee will start work on the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) advice shortly.

“We will be challenged as never before,” he said. “We will be scrutinised as never before. We must stick up to that scrutiny. We will be forcing politicians to make hard decisions. We will be testing the political consensus [on climate change].”

He said reducing emissions by the amounts needed would “require answers that the market unfettered will not deliver”.

So, a massive increase in governmental control of the private sector, dictating how companies work and how consumers purchase. But never call these folks socialists or Progressives (nice Fascism).

The biggest threats to action on climate were political upheaval and government attention, he added. “There is a finite amount of political attention, and the government is understandably concerned with the impacts of Brexit,” he said. “The biggest threat is a change in politics and we must always be alive to the fact that politics can shift. I would worry about a change in the parliamentary atmosphere. This is an unprecedented political time.”

That seems to be pushing one party rule, does it not? That only people approved by the Cult of Climastrology will be allowed to participate. That Wrongthink will be verboten. Rather authoritarian of them, wouldn’t you say? Meanwhile, they’re also saying that our consumption of meat and the way we farm Must Change

Huge reductions in meat-eating are essential to avoid dangerous climate change, according to the most comprehensive analysis yet of the food system’s impact on the environment. In western countries, beef consumption needs to fall by 90% and be replaced by five times more beans and pulses.

The research also finds that enormous changes to farming are needed to avoid destroying the planet’s ability to feed the 10 billion people expected to be on the planet in a few decades.

The new study follows the publication of a landmark UN report on Monday in which the world’s leading scientists warned there are just a dozen years in which to keep global warming under 1.5C, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods and extreme heat. The report said eating less meat and dairy was important but said current trends were in the opposite direction.

The new research, published in the journal Nature, is the most thorough to date and combined data from every country to assess the impact of food production on the global environment. It then looked at what could be done to stop the looming food crisis.

This is going down the idiotic “Population Bomb” route, a notion that has been thoroughly debunked over the years, but, the extreme envirowackos and Warmists cannot give up.

Reducing meat consumption might be achieved by a mix of education, taxes, subsidies for plant-based foods and changes to school and workplace menus, the scientists said.

In other words, government force.

This is the kind of thing that President Trump was rejecting when he withdrew the United States from the cockamamie Paris climate agreement. Her Majesty’s Government needs to look at this, and conclude that, f(ornicate) it, we are not going to inflict fascist and totalitarian controls on the people.

Alas! Her Majesty’s Government has been going right along with the leftist demands for control of the people, so I don’t expect Prime Minister May, or anyone else, to stand up to the warmunists.
