UN Report On Poverty Blasting Trump Has One Big Problem

Much like so many reports of kids fenced in at illegal alien detention centers….oh, look, here’s a new one, saying they were handcuffed and beaten….that seem to have occurred during the time of the previous White House occupant, Trump gets blamed for things that he didn’t do. He wasn’t POTUS at the time. Here’s another

(Fox News) A recent United Nations report blasting President Trump and America in general for harboring “contempt” and “hatred for the poor” is based on highly inaccurate data that can’t easily be used to compare the U.S. to other nations.

The U.N. report’s main contentions read like an attack on the Trump administration by the Democratic Party: America has 40 million poor people, including 18.5 million who live in extreme poverty; U.S. policies regarding the poor are “cruel and inhuman;” the Trump tax cuts aren’t working and will worsen inequality; and the U.S. needs to spend less on defense of our nation and more on social programs.

But, wait a minute: the U.N. report’s main contentions are based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s official poverty measure data for 2016 – the last full year of President Obama’s second term. So it would be absurd to say that private citizen Donald Trump had any responsibility for the many shortcomings of the Obama administration or any other administration in power before he became president.

The U.N. might as well blame Trump for causing the Great Depression – before he was born.

An even bigger problem with the report, especially given that the organization attacking American policy is the U.N., is that the Census Bureau data for 2016 isn’t accurate and can’t be used to compare U.S. anti-poverty programs with programs in other developed nations.

Wouldn’t this be what was referred to as an “inherited problem” from the day Obama took office in 2009 to at least his re-election in 2012? The media at the time the report was released at the beginning of June were hot to trot to Blame Trump, with headlines like

The Washington Post had an honest (mostly) article on the report, noting that the safety net programs were failing before Trump was elected. Regardless, so many others were blasting Trump policies for data from the Obama era.

Just more POT (Party of Trump) whining.

The report DID blast America, but was not solely devoted to criticizing Trump and the GOP (although the report DID point out policies that further harmed the poor and working class).

    It’s worth reading.

America’s record gap between the rich and the poor is not Trump’s fault, it is the fault of all our presidents and Congresses. Of course, GOP policies do more to widen the gap than do Dem policies, but we all knew that. The GOP true constituency is the political donor class, although the Dems are not far behind in their groveling to America’s wealthy and corporations.
    ,
Our tax, monetary, immigration, labor, fiscal, regulatory, criminal justice, healthcare and trade policies ALL favor the wealthy and corporations over the working classes (that the POT claims to protect). Neither party does a good job keeping the working classes healthy.

This seems to be the marching orders today.

The AP is running with a story about a class action suit citing incidents at immigrant detention centers implying that it’s Trump’s fault even though the incidents happened during the Obama years.

A lot of outlets are running with this and some are even potting headlines saying they happened in Trump detention facilities.

Time is going to run a cover that exploits a young girl that was drug across the Rio Grande in a raft in the dead of night by her ‘loving’ mother. This child is crying because her mother put her down for a few minutes so she could be searched.

And they wonder why we call them “Fake News”.

Some of us want ‘safety net’ programs to fail. Some of us want it to become impossible to survive without working for a living, want those who don’t feel like working to have to take a choice between doing two things they don’t want, to work or to starve, and are willing to let them starve if they still won’t work.

Yeah, that’s why we have the biggest middle class in the world and why ouyr working stiffs live better than anybody else.

That stuff Jeffery peddles is 80 years old and still sounds phony.

Note though, that years ago our “working stiffs” could support a family, own a home, send the kids to college and save for retirement. Today our working classes are in trouble.

As I said, it is not Trump’s fault, but the fault of policies from both Dems and the GOP over the decades.

Our tax, monetary, immigration, labor, fiscal, regulatory, criminal justice, healthcare and trade policies ALL favor the wealthy and corporations over the working classes.

We are continually shifting the tax burden from the wealthy to the working classes (many Repub voters!), but cutting infrastructure, and human capital support. Higher education is getting out of reach for many, wages for the working classes have been largely stagnant for decades, health care is a mess, and now there’s a push to slash Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security at the same time massively increasing defense. Our fiscal/monetary policies sacrifice employment. Labor policies discourage unions. Immigration policies favor competition with low wage workers but keeps professionals out. We lock up more citizens than any other advanced nation, often for petty crimes.

This is not Trump’s fault, it is the fault of all of us. But Trump has no plan to make anything better, if at all, his plans, such as they are, will continue the slide.

And your GOP is no fan of the working classes.
