‘Climate Change” Will Determine Humanity’s Destiny Or Something

Climate change will determine humanity’s destiny, says Angela Merkel

“Climate change is an issue determining our destiny as mankind – it will determine the wellbeing of all of us,” the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has told the world’s nations gathered at a climate summit.

The delegates heard a series of strong political messages on Wednesday, urging them to use the final two days of the summit to complete important work on putting the landmark 2015 Paris deal into action. Without this, the world faces a devastating 3C or more of global warming.

The UN secretary general, António Guterres, told the conference in Bonn of his visit to the Caribbean after this year’s hurricanes.

“The catastrophic damage of climate change is upon us and when the frontline is devastated, the whole army is lost” he said, railing against the $825bn invested in fossil fuels in 2016. “We must stop making bets on an unsustainable future.”

There were lots and lots of political speeches, because, at the end of the day, this is all about politics. Merkel is right, it will determine our destiny (at least to a point): it’s a choice between a cult that wants to substantially increase the size and power of government over citizens, private entities, economies, the energy sector, while enacting lots and lots of taxes and fees. It’s about control. Call it Marxism, socialism, progressivism, fascism, whatever, it’s all the same, massive governmental control as determined by global elites, who won’t see the same negative results in their own lives.

The other option is freedom and liberty.

So a tax on carbon (which should have been instituted long ago) is communism or Marxism or fascism.

No wonder no one takes you “the sky is falling (or turning commie)” guys seriously.

    jeez…

    • McGehee says:

If you really want to reduce carbon emissions, stop exhaling.

    • Well, a carbon tax is damned sure not capitalism, Jeff.

      • Jeffery says:

TEACH: You don’t think taxes are part of a capitalistic system? Do you think corporations will build the roads, the water infrastructure, pay for police protection, the military, the courts etc?

How bizarre your notions are. Do you think all taxes are a communist ploy or just some taxes?

  2. david7134 says:

    Jeff,
Every one here knows what is going on and how the tax would not influence the climate, so get real.

  3. Rotterdam says:

A tax on carbon is rather self defeating is it not?

Fossil fuels is the driver of economies. Crushing economies would be a zero sum game in which economies would grind to a halt. Which of course is exactly what communist want of the western nations who would dare to choose capitalism over communism/socialism as a way of life.

communists/socialist nations know they cannot compete with capitalism so they must find a way to destroy the system. Even China finally exploded out of her centuries long dormancy when she finally adopted a form of capitalism, controlled by the state. Yet Capitalism none the less.

    • Jeffery says:

      Rot,

Do you think communist China is more capitalistic than the US, even if the US added a tax to fossil fuel based energy sources?

  4. Jeffery says:

But let’s be honest… we won’t do enough to stop or even slow global warming. The “activation energy” is just too high, politically.

One hundred years from now our descendants will have to figure it out.

  5. Rotterdam says:

Let’s be honest. We can’t slow global warming any more than we will stop the destruction of the rain forests or the continued massive over use of Nitrogen fertilizers which are destroying the ozone layer along with the phytoplankton in the oceans.

In 200 years this planet will be all but dead.

The European Union’s Emissions Trading System (ETS) is the world’s biggest scheme for trading greenhouse gas emissions allowances. Launched in 2005, it covers some 11,000 power stations and industrial plants in 30 countries, whose carbon emissions make up almost 50% of Europe’s total.

The trade in permits is worth around $150bn annually, dwarfing other emissions trading schemes (the Clean Development Mechanism market established by the UN is valued at $1.5bn annually).

They have worked to reduce emissions somewhat. Here is the problem. For the system to really work to the extent of reaching the Paris accords these taxes have to do one thing:

    Let me quote.

Taking 2016 – the first year after the adoption of the Paris Agreement – as an example, we had an average carbon price of €5.36/t in the European carbon market (EU ETS). That is a 31 percent drop from the previous year and far below the €20-30/t needed to trigger key abatement measures like fuel switching from coal to gas in most countries.

This is from the energy post an EU watchdog agency that keeps an eye on the EU’s CO2 emissions.

The point here remains simple in order to actually make the difference that the Paris accords demanded it was going to become PUNITIVE to the point of actually destroying or sending the Entire EU into a 2007 USA meltdown economically because the price would need to rise SIX times higher then it is now forcing companies to pay for huge changes in the way they work.

Additionally if everyone switched there is not enough Natural gas in the EU or coming from Russia to fuel the switch from coal to Natural gas.

I could go on and on about this. The fact is that the Paris accords demanded a punitive measure on the western worlds while the communist nations get a pass because who actually is going to monitor their emissions? Themselves?

It is of course elitism at its finest. George Soros and his new world order which is in no small measure most likely backed heavily by the communist agenda of destroying the wests ability to be economically viable.

So will a tax help? Sure. But how much of a tax would actually be needed to FORCE the switch that you want? In the US it would have to be very high forcing your nation into what it just recovered from. This is another point of contention that is fueling a Brexit like movement all across the EU. Elitists telling the people what they can and cannot do and taking away more and more personal freedoms almost on a daily basis. The EU is going into a semi Fascist mode which is chilling to most of the ordinary citizens over here.

  6. Zachriel says:

Rotterdam: The fact is that the Paris accords demanded a punitive measure on the western worlds

Gradual phase-in is the recommended course, allowing markets time to develop green energy solutions. Healthy economic growth is essential to developing new technologies and restructuring of the energy infrastructure, but for providing a better life for the world’s peoples.

Rotterdam: while the communist nations get a pass because who actually is going to monitor their emissions? Themselves?

China is working to develop a stronger basis if rule of law. But, in any case, CO2 emissions can be monitored by satellite.

    • drowningpuppies says:

CO2 emissions can be monitored by satellite.

      Yes.

A new NASA study provides space-based evidence that Earth’s tropical regions were the cause of the largest annual increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration seen in at least 2,000 years.
      ———————
These record increases occurred even though emissions from human activities in 2015-16 are estimated to have remained roughly the same as they were prior to the El Nino,…
      ——————–
They found the total amount of carbon released to the atmosphere from all land areas increased by 3 gigatons in 2015, due to the El Nino. About 80 percent of that amount — or 2.5 gigatons of carbon — came from natural processes occurring in tropical forests in South America, Africa and Indonesia, with each region contributing roughly the same amount./em>

      Z,
The Chinese are working on pollution due to the fact that they have smog that is thicker than most dogs I have been in. The stuff is so bad that it blows around the area. I was in Seoul when it came in and it was tough. They also have pollution from micro dust from Mongolia. This problem goes away back. This the name Yellow Sea. Now you have tried to link this to the stupid CO2 issue. Some overlap may be used to get positive impressions from world organizations, but the reality is different.

Now there are zero measures for clean energy yet you consistently make this claim. CO2 tax would be very harmful. You will understand this when you get out of high school.

Rotter, understand that Z is a group of immature high school kids.

  7. Jeffery says:

Careful, you’ll make the little puppy jealous. He thought you were his only one.

  8. Rotterdam says:

Notice how This Z person immediately jumps to the defense of the communists? No doubt another poorly paid political agitator by the Communists nations paid to defend them on wester blogs.

    • david7134 says:

      Rotter,
Z is just a couple of kids, that is the way stupid kids talk now. They have a love affair with the communist. I suspect this is because they can’t compete in a free society.

And, Jeff, if you type on a kindle you will have multiple errors, deal with it.

  9. Jeffery says:

    Rot typed:

Notice how This Z person immediately jumps to the defense of the communists?

Did you notice how that Z person told the truth? If the truth puts a nation of which you disapprove, in this case China, in a slightly better light, should one avoid telling the truth about them?

Earlier, you suspiciously defended Communist China saying they were becoming more “capitalistic”. Should we suspect you of being another political agitator poorly paid by Communist nations?

  10. Rotterdam says:

Notice how Jeffery Jumps to the defense of communist countries and his communist assistant blogger.

    • Jeffery says:

      Rot,

You are delusional. The Russians working the internet worked for Papa Doc (tRump) and Baby Doc (tRump Jr).

And it was YOU who first defended the communist Chinese (as you defended tRump and the Deplorables).

      • david7134 says:

        Jeff,
Your comment is stupid as usual. But what did the back of the DMV do, it showed what a lier Hillary and the Democrats are.

      • Rotterdam says:

Defended the Chinese? All I said was that they used a form of capitalism to bring themselves into economic competition with the world. Thats hardly defending them, but of course I know your trolling for an argument. It is what you guys do on the internet.

As for Defending Trump. The only thing I can think of in which I defended him is that he brings to the USA a push back on the anti-nationalist movement the communists have been using for decades and that we here in the EU wished we had some one with the balls to stand up against the elitists and win.

But Its okay. I don’t bother to keep score. I have an agenda and it is not American politics or AGW or birth control or abortion. It is the salvation of the rain forests and the hope that the chemical industry will realize how evil their nitrogen fertilizers are.

The problems I have with people like you is that you post a 100 times per day then claim your the CEO of a major corporation curing cancer or whatever it is Ive heard them claim you have claimed. As for me. I get a few posts a week in if Im lucky because I actually have a job and have to work.

Lets compare quantity of posts here on this site then tell me whose the troll and the communist hack? Okay? Im up for it.

          Rotter,
Jeff is a very stupid little man. When you engage him his favorite technique is to distort what you say and make stuff up. In the US drug companies put on hugh parties for doctors that are running their drug trials, supposedly being nonbiased , Jeff sets these affairs up and gets the doctors to give the desired results. He also used to work for a big drug company and stole their research to form his corperation. He knows zero about science and most any other topic.
