Oh, no, not funded by the federal government, but owned and overseen by a private company, using federal grant money! The corporation then returns the favor by donating money to the Democrats.

    dana,

Aren’t you funded by taxpayers? Do you support candidates that keep the gravy flowing your way?

  3. Dana says:

No, I work for a private company. Some, but not all, of the concrete I produce is placed in highway and government projects. Almost all of those projects are put out for competitive bids — I’ve seen a couple of emergency repair projects where there were no bids, just a quick order to a qualified contractor — and then my company has to bid on the work from those contractors.

Unlike the solar energy companies on which the Obumble Administration lavished clean energy grants, over a dozen of which have gone through bankruptcy or failed to meet performance goals, my concrete is tested for consistency and air content, and then, 28 days after placement, must meet a compressive strength requirement. If a load of concrete is too wet or the air is out of spec, it gets rejected, and I lose 10 yd³ of concrete; if it fails a compression test — something which has never happened to me in the ten years I have been with my current company — we might have to pay to have it torn out and replaced.

You see, Jeffrey, we produce something of concrete value — pun very much intended — and we actually work for our money, unlike the solar power companies which have sucked up government grants, mostly failed to perform, and tried to keep the spigot open through political contributions and appeals to the idiotic environmentalists.
