I grew up in a little town called Brielle. I spent lots and lots of time in Manasquan, especially at the beach. Without a caption, I wouldn’t even been able to tell you where this was in Manasquan (pics via The Star Ledger and Andrew Mills, with many more)
For those in the know, that is the corner of 1st Ave. and Brielle Road. The thing about the Jersey shore is you have the beach, which rises up to a berm of maybe 5-10 feet above sea level, and there might be a boardwalk, then it often drops down a few feet. And from Manasquan down, you have the Intracoastal Waterway, with all these “barrier islands”, which means a double whammy for any beach towns as the bays and ocean rise. Plus, getting towns which are not much above sea level further inland.
I know where that is easily, bridge on Brielle Road is easily recognizable, and I’ve seen it flood almost like that in the past from king tides, but, never boats in the road. Good grief!

Look at how deep that sand is around the fire hydrant.
That’s the beach I grew up at, where I would go surfing. It gives a good appreciation just how far the sea had to go, horizontally and vertically. And, see what looks like a roof to the left of the dark beige building? There used to be a gazebo to the left of the walkway opposite from the beige building. Those waves going along the side of the Manasquan Inlet Jetty? Those are rising about 15 feet, at least. I’ve seen bigger, but not where you have the storm surge, tearing thick blacktop up.
Still think the storm was “over hyped” ? Still think that it was not even a real hurricane ? Still think that putting more energy into the atmosphere (globally warming) isn’t happening ? Or still just not thinking……..

And, there have been bigger storms to hit the East Coast, this has nothing to do with anthropogenic global warming. But, hey, since you brought it, have you given up all fossil fueled travel? Are competely carbon neutral? Don’t bother answering, we know that the real answer is “no.”
Overhyped? Yeah. Media gave this storm, a Cat 1 hurricane, many more days media time than the assassination and utter betrayal of 4 americans under threat from enemies of this nation.
Tell me, has anyone heard anything of “The Benghazi Betrayal” since late last week?
