Carl Levin Steps Back From Surrender Monkey Central

I was rather flabbergasted after reading this story over at Red State

Get ready for Carl Levin to get shot by Cindy Sheehan or some other angry lefty. I'm not sure what happened to him, but he's making sense right now. On Sunday's Meet The (De)Press(ed), he finally admitted that Al-Qaeda is in Iraq and American troops needed to stay there for "a counter-terrorism purpose."

Today, he got bolder and and called for escalation of the offensives against both Iran and Syria. Bravo. Speaking at a Senate Armed Services Committee meeting, Senator Levin said to John Michael McConnell, Director of National Intelligence, ……

What did Levin state?

LEVIN: “It’s more than just — we’re trying to close down the Iranian border area too. The problem is that these weapons are coming from a state which is — doesn't recognize Israel either, just like Iran doesn't. We’ve got to try to stop weapons coming into Iraq from any source that are killing our troops. I agree with the comments about trying to stop them coming in from Iran, I think we have to try stop them that are going to the Sunni insurgents as well as to the Shia. I was just wondering, does the military have a plan to, if necessary, to go into Syria to go to the source of any weapons coming from Syria? That are going to Sunni insurgents? That are killing our troops? … I think we ought to take action on all fronts including Syria and any other source of weapons coming in, obviously Iran is the focus – but it shouldn’t be the sole focus.” (Armed Services Committee, U.S. Senate, Hearing, 02/27/07)

Yes, expect the normal lefties to chime in and open a can of woopass on Levin, for discussing the real reality, and pushing for actual military action against Syria. He is going to take a beating, and it will be interesting to see if he stands up to the coming assaults, and sticks to his guns.

You can see the video of Levin here.

Has Levin seen the light, or is this a political ploy to either distance himself from cut and run, or maybe even move the Dems back from the party of surrender? I'd like to think that he spoke his true thoughts during the exchange, rather then the cut and run talking points, but, only time will tell. Remember, it was less then a week after the midterm elections that Levin was calling for cut and run, excuse me, phased redeployment, and it was just a few days ago that Levin was calling for a change in strategy in Iraq, ie, move from attempting to win to redeploying to Paris.

I can hear the CSA Ghosts of Gettysburg who died in a two-mile Pickett’s Charge to glory between Seminary Ridge and Cemetery Ridge on July 3, 1863 – If Carl Levin and Nancy Pelosi were advising President Lincoln…There would be 37 Northern States of America (NSA) and 13 Confederate States of America (CSA)TODAY!
“Virginians! This is our moment…Charge the enemy…FORWARD for Old VIRGINIA!!” – July 3, 1863, General George Edward Pickett at 3 P.M. prior to Pickett’s Charge!

Actually, Sen. Levin penned a DCCC e-newsletter that went out yesterday explaining that the Democrats are committed to “limit our mission to training and logistics support of the Iraqi military, to counterterrorism, and to helping the Iraqis secure their international borders.”

Amazing isn’t it? He recycles the same “Bush’s fault” talking points to his party’s base on the same day that he publicly acknowledges Iran and Syria’s role in the Iraq War. More details here.
