Did you know that last year President Bush signed a law that dishonors our obligations under the Geneva Conventions and allows unreliable statements gained by torture or coercion to be used as evidence against defendants. This is just one more nail in America's international reputation, that has already suffered terribly because of the Bush war of choice against Iraq. The international good will toward America that existed after the al Qaeda attacks of September 11, 2001 has been squandered by the Bush Administration.
Chris Dodd is seeking to restore America's moral authority and rebuild international respect for our country. Earlier this month Chris Dodd introduced a bill that would stop President Bush's troop escalation in Iraq, and now he has introduced legislation that overturns the sham trials and admissibility of tainted evidence made possible by the Military Commissions Act. If only Dodd, and the rest of the Defeatocrats, were as worried about protecting our country from terrorists as giving the right to appear before a judge to people caught on the battlefields of Afghanistan, fighting without any uniform of an established country, as well as looking good to surrender monkey countries.

One of a variety of writs that may be issued to bring a party before a court or judge, having as its function the release of the party from unlawful restraint.
And Dodd wants to give this to non American citizen terrorists.
Tell ya what. Let's fully apply the Geneva Conventions to the detainees. Under the terms of the Convention, we can try them and execute them as spies. At a minimum, the GC says they can be held for the duration of the confict. Perhaps Dodd and the other Defeatocrats should understand what the hell they are yapping about.
Writing on a similar subject at the Gun Toting Liberal, Matthew O'Keefe, says the Constitution is being burned over the federal court decision on the Club Gitmo vacationers. Um, No. Their plight is not the plight of the American People, nor will the decision be applied to Americans. Did I mention that the inmates at G'itmo are not Americans?
